It's amazing how people are overreacting. I noticed this week that people are not flushing public toilets. They think the handle carries CoronaVirus, lol.

So true !

Its not true, you literally can get it from flushing handles

Oh really? Be sure to point to the studies that validate your claim. I'll post one here that refutes yours:

"Some coronaviruses can live on surfaces for days, but not much is known about the new coronavirus' ability to survive on surfaces."

Source: www.livescience.com...

Don't let facts get in the way of your hyperventilating fear mongering.

Uhh look it up on the CDC website

Literally says at this point they think it can live for at least 9 days on surfaces

I mean i know the CDC isnt as accredited as LIVESCIENCE, but.

From your article

But how long can the new coronavirus linger on surfaces, anyway? The short answer is, we don't know. But if this new coronavirus resembles other human coronaviruses, such as its "cousins" that cause SARS and MERS, it can stay on surfaces — such as metal, glass or plastic — for as long as nine days, according to a new study. (In comparison, flu viruses can last on surfaces for only about 48 hours.)

IS it ironic i want to point and laugh at this poster for not finishing reading that article they posted, when I infact didnt read it because i know other validated sources said the same?

Im conflicted

Do you wanna take the risk and be the one that confirms it?

Thank you. I spent 10 minutes trying to find the right words to say but kept deleting them all and thought "nvm"

WHICH IS WHY YOU WASH YOUR GODDAMN HANDS AFTER USING THE CRAPPER

Come on, it's not going to bore through the pad of whatever digit you touch the handle with for 1/1020th of a second (known as a full second of time in some political circles) as you flush. Then shuffle yourself to the sink, use water AND SOAP, and wash your hands. Recite the alphabet, say the pledge of allegiance, or sing the theme song to Dora the Explorer to ensure you're washing those hands long enough. DRY THEM and go about your day. Problem solved, ya?

And then you wash your hands and touch the doorknob to get out of the bathroom... Bam! dirty hands again!

Just stop touching your face, combined with regular hand washing.

Hopefully, the great flush handle debate is over.

Based upon the Whitehouse CV Taskforce, and a few other sources today, this is my educated guess:

I gather that the CDC has been able to assemble a batch of 2500 "test kits" this week. Some (my guess under 20%) will be shipped Friday. The rest will ship very early next week, sounds like mostly Monday. Together that is capacity for 1.5M tests. The Friday shipment is targeted toward the priority hot-spots.

Also, the team seems confident that they will be able to expand testing to all of the major testing companies like Quest, Lab Corp, etc. in two to three weeks, so testing will be available at urgent care centers, large medical offices, and some large pharmacies. (CVS was mentioned.) Sound basically like anywhere you could get a flu shot this week.

My take aways:

1) wife and I decided to make a milk/eggs/fruit&veggies run Monday afternoon, since the next public mini-panic will probably be Tuesday/Wednesday as new test results are published and it looks like another surge of cases. Weekend panic shopping should be over Sunday evening.

2) Fast testing rollout could have a huge positive effect, limiting continued spread. Yeah, the day 2,3,4 presymptomatic contaigeon is still concerning, but presymptomatic should not be shedding as much virus, so is has a harder transmission.

And, if what we are hearing about instant test, either breathalyzer or pregrancy type OTC test really can be on the shelf in a month, that changes the whole paradigm. Maybe "they" can nip the bud before this gets out of control in the US.

Reliable instant testing at airports, bus stations, even venues can be a game changer. I wonder if POTUS and SS has had instant testing capability for a while. I know for fact that every POTUS since Clinton has had access to the cutting edge technologies long before they were commercially available.
edit on 5-3-2020 by Oleman because: Watch out for that less than sign, it can kill your whole post!

ETA: the new testing available this week seems to have only been the FDA regulation change allowing State and Universities that had already developed independent testing capacity to use it. I could be wrong on this though.

Talking about cutting edge technology, I wonder if Donald Trump knew something when he mentioned about flushing the toilet 10 - 15 times..... make sure the bug's gone?

Or was that a reference to the Democrats?

Thought I might chime in with this.
A man who died on the 14th Feb where I live, has been confirmed to have had Covid-19. Thats more than a week before the first confirmed case here. I'm sure the same thing with diagnostics has been happening all over.

I’m hearing that you can’t actually get rid of the virus, the body is able to suppress the virus but it can’t fully get rid of it

When you get semi compromised, it re-enacts it is opportunistic and possibly using HIV genomes to stay within the host

2nd, or 3rd infection will take out healthy young adults

Not sure if this was posted earlier
Public Health England:

As of today, due to the number of new cases, we will no longer be tweeting information on the location of each new case.

Instead, this information will be released centrally in a consolidated format online, once a week. We are working on this now and plan to share on Friday.

So unlike Singapore, USA, Japan and many other countries who tell their citizens where a case is daily - we are only going to see an update on this weekly basis. WTF. This will no doubt aid community spread, as we can't make informed choices about where to go - if we were planning a trip to a known cluster we could change our plans. From the continuing to handshake to this, I just feel like it's like they government want it to spread! Frustrating.
twitter.com...

Well, this seems like pretty strong evidence that government stupidity is certainly contagious, even via long distance non-contact transmission. IMHO.

Well it can, its already been proven in anal swabs of patients testing positive

I dunno if with all this information if you just have a case of Normalcy bias or?

So placing your ass on a public toilet (how else can carewemust see it) let the dough run on top of another dough is more save then touching the handle with some Australian toilet paper to flush and keep a proper hygiene.

To you and everyone who starred you : welcome to my Legion. We are everywhere.

Which is why I always open the bathroom door with the back of my elbow or my foot when I leave a public restroom.

It doesn't matter how long you wash your hands for, the previous ten people who didn't wash theirs (it's amazing to me how many don't, especially at restaurants when they're eating) spread whatever germs they have on their hands to innumerable places.

From the guardian just now (www.theguardian.com...) reports of crematoriums planned to be running 24/7. Reminds me of Wuhan. Actually it's the guardian reporting on the telegraph.

"Funerals of coronavirus victims in Britain could be transmitted to mourners over the internet to prevent the spread of the disease if it becomes a pandemic, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The paper says that bereaved relatives who have come into close contact with victims would be at greater risk of contracting the illness themselves, resulting in the government seeking to discourage them from holding large funerals.

It also cites official government pandemic planning documents which raise the prospect of crematoria being opened 24 hours a day, and all week, to cope with up to 50,000 extra deaths per week in the worst case scenario"

For those of you so inclined, at what point do you button up and cease interacting with the outside world in person?

Actually I was strongly considering going into lockdown this week. But Murphy's Law threw me a curve ball.

The wife found out Monday she has a break in one side of the bridgework in her mouth. So she has to go back to the dentist on Friday morning so they can cut out the old one and make a mold for the replacement. Actually she wasn't scheduled to go in till the 19th, but I played the "squeaky hinge" card for her and got her in earlier. Replacement has to be created off site and may take 2 weeks for turnaround. And here I was thinking that going to the dentist would be about worst case during a pandemic. Having someone sticking their fingers in your mouth, even gloved, is just asking for trouble with a contagion floating about. But what can I do? She has to have it done, apparently.

So just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. We have already talked it over, and if confirmed cases of the virus bloom around Tallahassee, then she just will not go back in till things blow over. So I'm going to be on pins and needles for a while even after Friday. Even more so when she goes back there in 2 weeks.

I talked with the dentist about this coronavirus thing, but he just pooh-poohed it away. So yeah, that made me feel so much better..... Not!

Yeah, best laid plans of mice and men, and all that rot...

Silver based hand sanitizer might be good for public toilet circumstances

Nolla hand sanitizer foam

Proven effectiveness
The foam eliminates over 99.99% of pathogens and fulfills European hand disinfection standard EN 1500.

It kills the hospital superbug MRSA, flesh-eating Pseudomonas, and coronavirus. The hand sanitizer is effective against MERS-CoV surrogate. The test was performed on commonly used MERS-surrogate (bovine coronavirus) instead of MERS due to biosafety reasons.
