Watching sky news, they’re having a big debate about whether to close schools... it’s got a much more serious feel about it now on all the news outlets. Still at 90 confirmed, update at 2pm and they will still disclose locations after saying yesterday they’d only provide that information once a week on a Friday.

Iran to Close Schools and Universities Starting 20 March Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

The statement comes after Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said that the virus has affected almost all the regions in the country. Last week, the country's parliament made a decision to suspend work until further notice due to the ongoing outbreak.

Iran is among one of the hardest-hit by the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

March 20th is so far away- this virus moves so fast.

I wonder why they chose a date so far in the future, when action to prevent the spread is more urgent now.

This thread moves so fast, I have to postmark here.

Read as many posts as can since my last post last night and it does seem like this virus is not going away anytime soon.

Updates will be coming through on worldometers in a few hours!

They are making an assumption from symptoms that have presented or they used a formula.

If latter at least they are thinking BIG! Unlike CCP who divides to get the reported number.

I doubt they have enough doctors to diagnose that many cases. Can’t see how they could test that many.

Saw this shared on Reddit - a truck driver in an undisclosed location in the US showing a pretty empty port - she says usually it's heaving with containers. No imports. I think someone mentioned this a while back (maybe thread 3?!) but this was only posted 2 days ago on LiveLeak.

So if things go bad, and stores are closed for weeks or months, what about prescription meds?

I am sure on a small scale, getting people their meds will be possible, but over a larger scale, probably not.

Some rely on insulin, BP drugs, others. If we can't go to the local pharmacy, will they start home delivery? What if all the delivery folks are sick, or unwilling to work?

Firstly check where these are produced. Are you sure it is produced near enough to make sure it even can be delivered?

And what about the ingredients. Are you sure those are available? I would be far more concerned about the front of the line than the actual delivery to the ones in need.

Account from an italian woman who is currently in hospital with coronavirus

Text
Alessandra, 56, works as a social and health worker in the RSA of Maleo. It comes from Codogno. Alessandra is attached night and day to oxygen: she cannot speak. Tell us about your experience by writing on your mobile phone

I have been hospitalized for ten days. My condition has worsened: I passed out on two occasions, I am in bed under oxygen and I take therapy morning and evening, in addition to the fixed intravenous one. The fever for two days is gone, but the lungs need help ... ». Cremona Hospital, Infectious Diseases Department. Alessandra is 56 years old, she works as a social and health worker in the RSA of Maleo. He comes from Codogno, has two children and a granddaughter. Alessandra is attached night and day to oxygen, she cannot speak. He recounts his experience by writing on his cell phone: "The only connection I have left with the world".

When did you discover that you are positive for coronavirus ?
"I got a fever after a night at work: bone pain, light cough, treated like flu, tachipirine and mucolytic."

But she hasn't healed ...
«Every day I got worse. I called 112, but I hadn't had contact with infected people. After 9 days of high fever my children called back a little angry. The ambulance arrived, they were all in overalls ... »

That day Codogno was already a red zone.
«I had a first hospitalization in Cremona in a polyclinic used as a field hospital with camp beds. I did the first tests there. When I got the result they sent me to the infectives ».

What did you think when they told you the diagnosis?
“It felt like being in a circle of hell. They tell you but you don't understand what awaits you and it's better this way. The cure kills you. Bend your body, the stomach ache with nausea and vomiting is excruciating, the fever makes you burn. "

And how are you now?
«Monday was my worst day. Powerless in front of my husband's hospitalization, in subintensive therapy in Lodi. I saw no way out. I felt suffocated. I wanted to scream, because my dad is already in hospital in Lodi ... »

For coronavirus?
"Pneumonia, still has no outcome of the swab."
Did you wonder how Covid-19 contracted?
«The caretaker of my granddaughter's school was positive. I spoke to her morning and afternoon. The employee of the RSA where I work has also been infected and hospitalized here in Cremona. But I found out later. Or I took it elsewhere without knowing it ... »

Do you have information in hospital about what's going on around you?
«No visit is allowed. The room has two beds, but the TV is turned to the other bed, only there is the headset. Time never passes".

And the doctors?
«They come in the morning for the visit and are kind and helpful. The staff also, but has willingness to enter as little as possible. Sometimes they knock on the glass ... »

Who's in the room with her?
«A much younger lady, she has been hospitalized for 12 days. It got worse, we can't speak. Eating too ... you would like to finish it, but after two spoons you are already nauseated ».

What do you think to overcome this moment?
«To my two children, to my husband. He is 58 years old, with his beautiful blue eyes he has cheered up our lives since we got married. In May it will be 33 years ... To my 8 year old granddaughter who sent me a drawing by phone. He reproduced the room and the therapies, all with the imagination. Do you understand now? »

Thing?
"I hope I have been clear: this is not a trivial influence."

Hmmm... Very good point.

I would suspect that there is a stock supply for most common drugs, which would not be contaminated in any way. Not sure though. I hear most of our meds are made out of country. India seems to be a big one.

Now if production shuts down for an extended period of time. That could be a real issue for some.

i watched the Boris Johnson interview on ITV's This Morning show and i think i picked up something between the lines
He basically started his interview by hinting about the fact that there are experts who are telling him that it might be good idea to let the virus run through the population and let it run its course..of course he then continued by saying that's not currently the plan and in fact he thought they should strike a balance and try to slow it down

i have been keeping an eye on a lot of countries that i am convinced are playing down their numbers including britain. Don't get me wrong, a big part of me is still hoping they are not lying and they really have the few cases they declare, but unfortunately it's just not plausible. I say this because i have lived in quite a few countries in europe ( ilast 15 years in switzerland ) and i know the differences in lifestyles and healthcare between them . With this knowledge i can tell you that places like london were more exposed than northern italy, not less ,to the virus
My take is that unless somebody planted the virus in northen italy, it makes no sense that the virus would spread differently there than in other place since january. i keep trying to find an explaination but there isn't one unfortunately.

I'm in a small secret group on Facebook that I've been in for 8 or so years. One of the women in the group said that when she went to get her meds yesterday they didn't have one of the blood pressure meds she takes and the other she was only able to get a month supply of because the pharmacy said they were starting to run low.

Anyone hearing of any reports of problems getting their meds due to supply issues?
