“From laboratory tests, we found that young patients will produce antibodies within two weeks. So even if they have positive results in PCR tests again, the risk of contagion is very low.

“We also found that some elderly patients may need more time to produce the antibodies. So they may keep releasing the virus and become a source of infection,” Guo said.

Zhang Zhan, a respiratory specialist at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University also warned of possible infection by people who had been previously thought “cured”.

In an article published online on January 31, she said that eight days after one of her patients was deemed to have recovered from the infection a member of his family contracted the disease. The relative had not been in contact with anyone else since his return home.

1,000 people asked to self quarantine in New York

About 1,000 people have been asked to self-quarantine following the coronavirus cases in Westchester, New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.

Those individuals will be contacted by various health departments and provided guidance, Cuomo said.

“If anything we are being over cautious,” Cuomo said.

The temple, Young Israel, CNN reported on earlier this week has roughly 380 family congregants, its website said.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer previously advised the temple to halt all services due to exposure to the second New York coronavirus patient – adding that individuals who attended a funeral and a bat mitzvah on February 23 along with services on the 22 must self-quarantine.

A hotline has been established for people who have been asked to quarantine, Latimer said.

Those who have tested positive for the virus are being monitored by local health departments with regulation from the state, Cuomo said.

This seems to say that there is a possibility that a lot more people may have already been exposed than we have been lead on to believe.

I would put that at a minimum quarantine of 14 days, 28 to be safe.

on a side note, "Quarantaine" in French means 40, and they have started to call some of the quarantines "Quatorzaine" for fourteen days.

((It used to be 40 days quarantine for boats with sickness/fever back then in the boat sailing days apparently)

Again, the question that arises is are people being "reinfected" a 2nd time, or is this thing biphasic and going dormant for some time before returning like the simplex/herpes virus does.

It would be helpful to know if they were able to sequence the strain of the "1st infection" and compare it to the sequence of the "2nd infection". If it's 100% identical then perhaps it was the same infection all along

resident does not fire people. He replaces them.

Well that's sort of the point. He didn't replace them. Thus the vacancies, and the inability to respond to this virus properly.

Again stuck in circular and wrong logic. Define properly vs what? Your comparing against your imaginary perfect measure. Which not only doesn’t reflect reality it’s just stupid.

Have you ever known a President or government to do anything perfectly, for everyone, at all, ever?

Perfection of action doesn’t exist.

Also want to point Fauci had been in CDC since Reagan and he’s not sounding alarms that positions aren’t filled or were removed. If he was out there sounding alarms then I’d probably agree with you. Before you jump and say he’s being muzzled (fake news) he said very clearly he was not in the press conference. On video.

What about your job?

Own my own business. But it has been downhill since Jan. anyway. I design and sell products for RC airplanes, cars, boats, etc. My main ones are systems to give them realistic sound. Since this all started I could not get the custom PCBs assembled in Shenzhen, and to make them in the US was 5x the cost,

They are back to work over there, but about a month backlog, so it will be a while yet before I get the latest order I put in. Sales have gone through the floor, for what I do have in stock too, in the last 3 weeks or so. Probably not much call for hobby products in a crisis.

I can only hope that it passes quickly. In the meantime I have enough food and supplies for 6 months, and money for mortgage and bills.

Also from your link.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention dramatically expanded the testing criteria for the novel coronavirus today. The CDC formally removed earlier restrictions that limited coronavirus testing of the general public to people in the hospital, unless they had a close contact with a confirmed coronavirus case.
According to the CDC, clinicians should now “use their judgment to determine if a patient has signs and symptoms compatible with COVID-19 and whether the patient should be tested.”
The new criteria formalizes Vice President Mike Pence’s announcement, made Tuesday night, that “any American can be tested (for coronavirus), no restrictions, subject to doctors’ orders.”

Um, this should have been like this from the get go. I believe that the restrictions are the main reason why there are so many cases popping up now. They couldn't and wouldn't test unless you were around someone from Wuhan, then China, and then someone with the virus.

It's about time.

Who replaced Tom Bossert, Rear Adm. Tim Ziemer, and Dr. Luciana Borio? Who replaced Ziemer's team? Answer: no one. If you know who has been secretly filling those roles since they left, please share the info! The administration was even warned that this was a weak spot in the face of a pandemic prior to this virus.

Ah, you've never understood the concepts of re-organizing, consolidating, etc.

That explains it. Look those terms up.

Expect numbers to jump siginificantly in the days that come then.
If more tests are available to more people, the numbers will jump.
But by how much ?

Yes, yes you are. You go about your daily life, spread it to others, some of whom could die. How humanitarian.

This is the kind of attitude that will infect millions.

It is also the reality of life. It's called a crap-shoot.

I just don't get it. What do you want, some kind of guarantee? You want to be able to sue someone who you may think 'made you sick'?

I would settle for some common sense, not going out and spreading it if you know you are sick. We have already seen several cases of people that were supposed to be in isolation go out, now others have to be in isolation, and possible infection because of irresponsible behavior.

It is not a crap shoot when a sick person goes out and possibly infects others, just because they don't want to stay in, and think their lives are the most important one. I call it irresponsible, self absorbed, childish behavior.

If I come down with this crap, I will take responsibility for my own actions, and not go out risking spreading it to others. Just the thought that I could spread it to someone, who then dies from it, turns my stomach.

Yes, face down is definitely the correct position in which to be. Just like you stated. I can confirm that. It helps to delay suffocation from fluid in the lungs, and also makes it less stressful on the breathing muscles to keep a person going longer before their breathing muscles become exhausted. I know that sounds 100% grim, but there is no point to pulling any punches, especially if we are in a position (pardon the pun) in which we are positioning loved ones at home in bed or something. It could save some lives.

It depends on what you believe they lead to believe. If you interpreted the numbers as ALL cases you did it wrong.
If you believed their numbers as confirmed cases after testing the number are in the ballpark.

Grim yes, but if it can keep 50% or more of your lungs from being covered in fluid that should be good.
Bad for mobility, but good for life.

I see a lot of convalescent homes and care givers beings built/transformed/taught.

While I don't think it gets too bad obviously more people are going to catch it virtually everywhere.
What's the option let them roam around like Typhoid Mary? You got to hope it curtails the spread even if it curbs their freedom for a while.

But you mean for every disease, illness and cough?

My lungs have been bad for two decades now. So I should have stayed in all the time? With H1N1 (and the followers), with Mers, zika, sars and now corona?

They were all new originally. Maybe it's best if from now on we all stay home and never leave unless you have explicit governmental approval to travel from point A to B?
