President does not fire people. He replaces them. He can relieve and replace any appointees at any time without cause. Fire implies the person did something wrong. Firing a federal employee without cause is difficult to do and there’s a long process. Obama replaced every ambassador as have other presidents when taking office, because it’s an appointed position like Some CDC positions and teams are. Vindman same - appointed.

This goes back to what I said - understanding how govt works vs what the media portrays and what the private sector does.

Also about funding - fed agencies get a block budget plus annual increase. POTUS can elect to remove the annual increase. Depending on politics it will get termed a cut when in fact it is canceling an increase. Funding cut means block budget was reduced ala Obama cutting the DoD budget.

The media gets lots of this stuff wrong and all of them don’t bother to explain it properly.

Which tells me that governments have some information that they have not imparted to the public about what's really going on.

What concerns me is the delay tactics.

Multiple countries have announced (sort of) delay tactis, to let this run until the Flu season is over, and take care of it then.
My problem with this is that it lets the virus multiply and spread, and might even worsen the problem.
All for "possible" logistics problems.

I can see how this could go wrong.

They provide numbers on the flu, but how accurate are those? I never go to the doctor for colds and flu, even when I get it really (been a long time since I started eating right and getting in some HIIT). How many more people out there are there like me?

How many deaths due to flu are recorded as pneumonia, not the flu?

Thats a very nice opinion piece on the under-reporting of case numbers.

In order to make statement as you did then you'd have to agree that number of 3.4% fatality rate published by WHO is low-balled. As is annual FLU death rate.

Doesn't mean that it damages the immune system forever though, he could be saying that it does make a number on your system and you end up being more prone to other infections while you fully recover.

As far as I know the only connection between it and AIDS is how it uses proteins in order to stick to the body's cells, not much beyond that. He could just have put it in layman's terms like that because AIDS is known for screwing up the immunity system.

Autopsies show severe damage to COVID-19 patients' lungs and immune system, according to a doctor in Wuhan reached by the Global Times, who called for measures to prevent fibrosis of the lungs at an early stage of the disease.

"The influence of COVID-19 on the human body is like a combination of SARS and AIDS as it damages both the lungs and immune systems," Peng Zhiyong, director of the intensive care unit of the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University in Wuhan, told the Global Times on Friday.

Peng said he had just talked to Liu Liang, a forensic specialist from the Tongji Medical College at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Liu's team has reportedly conducted nine autopsies on deceased COVID-19 patients as of February 24.

"The autopsy results Liu shared inspired me a lot. Based on the results, I think the most important thing now is to take measures at an early stage of the disease to protect patients' lungs from irreversible fibrosis," Peng noted.

If irreversible damage is done, other measures, like those to prevent patients from oxygen deficit, will not be of much use, he said.

You drown in your own mucus.
Not much a person at home can do.
What about sleeping face down, tilted to the face, shouldn't the mucus be expunged naturally by gravity, and leave some of the lungs free of mucus to breathe ?

He warned that the number of deaths may rebound as he knows many critical patients in Wuhan have held out for one month but are still in danger and could die anytime.

There were 6,775 criticalpatients in Wuhan as of Thursday and the number of deaths Wuhan authority reported on Thursday was 28, according to NHC.

No it's not - where are you getting your incorrect information from? Trump fired the guy that would have lead the efforts against this virus in 2018. He was -not- replaced. Two more key players vacated in 2019. They were NOT replaced. Ziemer's team was also disbanded. How is that fake?

Although the L type (∼70%) is more prevalent than the S type (∼30%), the S type was found to be the ancestral version. Whereas the L type was more prevalent in the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan, the frequency of the L type decreased after early January 2020. Human intervention may have placed more severe selective pressure on the L type, which might be more aggressive and spread more quickly. On the other hand, the S type, which is evolutionarily older and less aggressive, might have increased in relative frequency due to relatively weaker selective pressure. Yes, the numbers are much higher than regular flu, but remember, this is the very first exposure of the world population to it. From what I've gleaned, the first time will always have much higher transmission and death rates.

What that means - hopefully - is that once this thing transitions to just another seasonal virus to get sick from, the transmission and death rates will be much lower... again, hopefully (as I always do, trying to remain positive).

I would think there were "up to" four variants.
Two of which are either asymptomatic, or with very light symptoms.
People may never come in to be tested for them.
Four variants of the same virus. OR four different ways of contracting the same virus ?

What does that have to do with the point addressed? Absolutely nothing.

No one, including me, has ever claimed we would not have more confirmed cases and/or deaths, in fact, I figured it was inevitable.

I find that the skeptics(people believing it isnt that bad) are slowly losing ground in which to stand on. While I do agree with some of what tansta says, some things are a little "graspy".
