So, this hospital employee broke isolation, went to an event, and then tested positive for coronavirus.

If hospital employees are breaking home isolation then how are we to expect the rest of the nation to comply? This is just ridiculous.

they won't

Issue is handling it poorly vs what?

We’re talking about an unprecedented situation at all levels. Science has enabled us to identify this pandemic whereas during the Spanish flu we lacked that capability. This situation is literally unprecedented.

So compared to what would you rate this terrible performance? Any logical person would tell you there must be a basis with which to compare it against. There is nothing comparable with which to really judge this. Telling me the economy Now sucks vs Clinton, hey that’s a logical comparison even if I don’t agree.

I think you’re overlooking what I said, and I think this was done for a lot of reasons - the CDC pushed testing, tracking and field work to the state level. Saying orange man bad, Administration sucks, and White House is morons because your state’s case count is wrong really isn’t valid in this situation is it?

This has little to do with this mornings update, but:

1. The Japanese govt. now will pay for the test for the virus for all Japanese citizens and those covered by the NHI, which includes me.

2. There is no reason why the US or any country in fact can't pay for testing of the virus. It really doesn't cost that much money people. How much, currently I don't have the price to quote here in Japan, but keep in mind our govt. sets the price , not the market price as in the US health industry which is totally out of wack compared to Japanese prices.
And even now the Japanese have lowered the prices of medications , why well...
1. they don't want out patients coming to the hospital for renewals of meds
2. for the most part if you are classified as level 1 current patient at your local hospital, your next appt. will be 4 months. The doctors now have been lenency (sp) to go against the law of med dispersification (sp) of meds to patients , reason is hospitals want the lobby (waiting rooms) to be empty as much as possible.
3. I know that #2 is a fact. Which I've posted earlier my next appt. is 4 months at the hospital, and even that can be cancelled at any time. Also all rules regarding the 30 day only of giving meds is now being overlooked to keep people home from traveling to their drug stores.

I was saying that Japan was 30 days behind China in its actions. Well, its even now , there is no difference of action that is being taken other then taken people off the streets never to be seen again.

I also have been stating that America now was about 3 days away from the actions being taken place in Japan.
After seeing the picture posted of the crises management is prayer, well, I just might be right again. Doesn't really matter actually if you don't think what has happen to China then to Japan, then to Italy won't take place in America... well... hey by the way is Disneyland still open? China, Hong Kong and now Tokyo have closed them. Don't think its serious... I mentioned the casinos once, I wonder who actually sold the stocks back in Sept or Oct. of last year...
I know this thread will fall under MIM's "thick" thread, but really it is something to think about.

I won’t blame the cdc per se, but they were not testing people with symptoms for a long time unless people were associated with China, I am not going to go on a blame political rant, but then I look at how South Korea, is dealing with the illness. bureaucracy, in the United States is to blame, nationally, statewide, and locally, however we want to divide it up. That has nothing to do with politics either, it has to do with civics. We have had plenty of time to get ready for this just as we have, by going out and getting food etc. this crap I am hearing having to be tested then they have to send the test somewhere else to confirm whether you have it or not, or hearing that if you have not recently traveled to another infected country you don’t qualify for a test, or you have to be dying in order to get a test is preposterous, borderline negligent, history will determine whether or not it is that. I am sure more attitudes will change if and when they may get sick, trying to be responsible, by getting tested, or getting treated, only to have to cut a bunch of red tape.

Definitely agree the CDC f-ed up, bigly. With an elephant on top. But POTUS can’t micromanage down that far. It simply doesn’t work that way. VP can’t either.

I’m not the biggest fan of their handling of the crisis but in the last few days they’ve made some solid decisions. I especially think utilizing the state health agencies was the way to go. Many states had their own tests including NY, CA, AZ, and TX (IIRC) and only a fool would ignore that, they didn’t. I think networking down to the populace using the states reduces risks, mitigates red tape, and speeds responsiveness.

It would not surprise me if the decision was made coz CDC f-ed up with the test.

Mods have said more than a few times keep it in the mud pit in these threads. We have an old school ATS vibe in this thread, many of us want to keep it that way.

Gotta love the old school ATS vibe. Feels informative!!!

Has anyone visited the CDC page to view cases per state? It's awesome.. you have to check it out! Just hover over the state to get results.

What a joke!!! You get 'yes' or 'no' if you hover over a state. Who put that together a 10 year old?

Compared to countries that clearly and openly talk with their citizens (see Singapore PM video). That have literally roadside testing for the virus. While in NYC, where there could potentially be hundreds or even a thousand + cases, they have literally tested.. 17 people.. as of March 3rd. About a month ago they had tested 7. So testing average in NYC - 2.5 person a week. You don't see that as a colossal failure?

Misinformation or flat-out lies don't help. We've had both. Bungling of the top CDC positions, which is probably why they are so ill-equipped to deal with this. Trump's national economic council director said 1 week ago: "We have contained this. I won’t say air-tight, but it’s pretty close to air-tight.” Hmmm... no. I can only assume (and hope) he really was clueless enough to believe that. Flat out lies to prevent the market from tanking - that would make people look bad! "Stocks are looking great!"

Flights as of a couple days ago.. FULL flights, from Italy, with not only no testing whatsoever, but not a single warning or comment other than.. thanks for flying with us! Other countries are banning those flights, or quarantining those flights - the U.S. is just letting them in.. even after the chatter of supposed travel restrictions.

Telling scientists and doctors they can't speak to the public? What countries are doing that? Iran and China. Even NK has a more informed broadcast covering the virus than the U.S. - by far! And that's very sad. Funneling info, so it can be whitewashed before passing it to the public - how quaint. Most other countries are being open and honest with their populations. Not all.. but many.

How about you tell me what the government is doing right? Can you list those on one finger? Plenty of countries are handling this MUCH better than the U.S. government is. They were ill-prepared when it hit.. lack of planning (and not back filling key CDC positions, which is 100% on the administration), and lack of direction and leadership right now. Why criticism should disappear is baffling - this actually is NOT an authoritarian government we have, for those wondering.

I guess my thoughts were yes they were asking for guideness (sp), just like us people here are asking the govt. which in fact seems to be getting better at : We come to God in prayer for a variety of reasons—to worship Him, to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, to thank Him for His blessings, to ask for things for ourselves, and/or to pray for the needs of others. The Hebrew and Greek words most often translated “supplication” in the Bible mean literally “a request or petition,” so a prayer of supplication is asking God for something. Unlike the prayer of petition, which is praying on behalf of others, the prayer of supplication is generally a request for the person praying.

But in Japan it is known to be really a Godless country at least the way the west thinks so. Although very spiritual in many daily activities.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak suggested that he and his wife could have contracted coronavirus nearly two months ago — and quipped that they both may have even been “patient zero” in the US.
The 69-year-old millionaire tech entrepreneur told USA Today that he and Janet Wozniak came down with “the worst flu of our lives” after visiting Southeast Asia in January.

I'll stop discussing the politics of this unless it's new and pertinent at any rate, so as not to distract from the purpose of the thread. By the way - here is a fun and maybe helpful puzzle to help scientists create a cure!
