I think you will feel when it is the right time- too soon and it will seem ridiculous but too late and it's pointless.
In the UK you can do it at any time with just a letter I think, and you don't really need to stipulate why - as long as you plan to continue educating at home, there's not much they can do. Only thing worth remembering is that if your school is oversubscribed then you may find it hard for them to re-register as their places may have been given to someone else etc...
However, I posit that actually many parents will do the same thing, so it won't seem random or unusual and i'm betting there will be a lot of open places left...

Hi someone please let me know why was it ITALY the first European country severely effected by covid19?

Any thoughts...speculation...?

This has not been discussed in the media to my knowledge.
Thank-you

One reason is they were looking for Coronavirus early. Unlike other places.

Although...

Italy
Italy announced on Feb. 26 that it would relax its testing criteria to the point that contacts linked to confirmed cases or recent travelers to outbreak areas would not be tested anymore, unless they show symptoms.

Also from the link...

March 2, 2020
Dr. Matt McCarthy, a staff physician at New York-Presbyterian:

“I’m here to tell you, right now, at one of the busiest hospitals in the country, I don’t have [a rapid diagnostic test] at my finger tips.” “I still have to make my case, plead to test people. This is not good. We know that there are 88 cases in the United States. There are going to be hundreds by middle of week. There’s going to be thousands by next week. And this is a testing issue.”

“In New York State, the person who tested positive is only the 32nd test we’ve done in this state,” he said. “That is a national scandal. [...] They’re testing 10,000 a day in some countries and we can’t get this off the ground,” McCarthy said. “I’m a practitioner on the firing line, and I don’t have the tools to properly care for patients today.”

We can't see what we refuse to find.

Are you telepathic? I only ask because you have answered things that I did write, but deleted before posting. I was asking about how to go about registering for home schooling etc, but never posted it. Deleted it before posting to avoid my ramblings. You answered it anyway. Thank you.

Edit to add: On thinking for a minute, I'm wondering if you are the embodiment of string theory in cloud formation. Maybe I shouldn't have another glass of whisky. Or maybe I should.

Theres going to be hell to pay for this incompetence, not having the test kits available to test people is borderline criminal.

It's concerning medical practioners are speaking out about the lack of preparedness....

Good grief - 118 cases in US now!

118 cases and 9 dead...That's a 7.6% CFR. That's really concerning!

Just want to say this. Interpreted the numbers to what they represent.

118 cases are confirmed. There will be many many unconfirmed cases simply because 1) the patient doesn't know 2) the patient can not afford a check up 3) possible deaths not connected to the virus as they were not checked for that.

So that 7.6% CFR is a misreprestation of what is really going on.

Yeah, most people don't know that the vast majority of people who got polio fully recovered.

haha no! But it is something i have read about recently in relation to this. I had no idea you could easily pull children out of school with a simple letter as long as you have plans to educate at home. And there are a lot of great resources out there so it's definitely possible. Hopefully just for a short time.
I think there will come a time when schools do close, either from parental pressure (and them pulling their kids out) or things escalate here and it's safer for them to close. I can see why the government would not do it yet as it is very disrupting but to keep them open too long is a real risk of spreading it. I heard somewhere that a school that planned to close for 2 weeks here due to a case actually was forced to reopen much earlier due to parents getting annoyed....i'm thinking in a few more weeks that will change a fair bit.

The fact that 8 of the 9 deaths have been from the old folk's home in Kirkland, involving people older than 70 with underlying medical conditions, makes those cases about as applicable to the overall national situation as the cruise ship cases were in Japan.

Hate to risk sounding crass, but it's not like we've had 9 healthy people in normal daily settings keel over from this.

Whether you are familiar with essential oils or not, the medicinal properties that many possess are well documented.

While I was out sourcing prep needs, I ran into a couple doing the same. I was grabbing aloe gel and alcohol to make my own hand sanitizer, and the told me about a blend called thieves oil.

Thieves oil, an essential oil blend composed of clove, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, lemon and rosemary oils, has anti-infectious, antibacterial, antiviral and antiseptic properties, making it a potent remedy for various ailments
One study published in the Journal of Essential Oil Research noted that aerosol-spraying thieves oil in enclosed spaces may help eliminate the transmission of bacterial pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa

After looking into it, supposedly it was used during the it has great properties as an antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, can be diffused to purify indoor air and eliminate airborne pathogens, and can provide protection against respiratory infections and inhibit some pneumonia. I think you could apply this to any kind of face mask and have a better chance than nothing. There is a huge amount of good info on the web.

It does kill stuff

Ingredients:

•10 drops rosemary essential oil

•15 drops eucalyptus essential oil

•20 drops cinnamon bark essential oil

•35 drops lemon essential oil

•40 drops clove bud essential oil

Procedure:

•Place all the oils in a dark glass container. Seal with the lid tightly and then shake vigorously to mix the oils well.

A 2007 study published in Phytotherapy Research noted that cinnamon and clove bud oil may have potential in inhibiting the growth of pathogens like Streptococcus pyogenes, pneumoniae, agalactiae and Klebsiella pneumonia, and may help treat respiratory infections in humans

Clinical Aromatherapist here of 30 years and 25 teaching.
That blend IS NOT thieves oil. That is a name that was trade marked by a well known MLM sales company who claim it was a blend used during the Plague.....lies...there were no Essential Oils available during the Plague. It was known as Thieves Oil then because the body collectors would use a concoction of various vinegars infused with herbs.

Secondly, those oils are highly dangerous to use on people with underlying health conditions and should most certainly not be used around children unless you want to give them respiratory failure and worse.
They should NOT be used if people have the following conditions:
Rosemary: Pregnancy and children, epilepsy, Petit Mal, using homeopathy remedies, high blood pressure.

Eucalyptus: Pregnancy during first trimester., undergoing cancer treatment, high blood pressure, epilepsy, taking homeopathic remedies. Not to be used on children under the age of 6 years.

Cinnamon Bark: Not to be used in pregnancy or whilst breast feeding, high risk skin irritant, low risk mucous membrane irritant. BEST NOT USED ON SKIN AT ALL.

Lemon: Possible skin irritant, Phototoxic but less so if steam distilled, undergoing treatment for cancer.

Clove Bud: Embryo toxic (will kill a foetus) skin and mucous irritant. Not to be used in pregnancy or whilst breast feeding, Not to be used on hypersensitive, damaged or diseased skin. Not to be used on or near children at all. On blood thinning medication. BEST NOT USED ON SKIN AT ALL. Not to be confused with Oil of Cloves.

Just saying
Jane

I just saw a local news report that said some Doctor's offices, when dealing with patients who are suspected of having coronavirus, have patients, at the end of their visit, leave through a back door.

The reason, they claim, is to not potentially infect people waiting in the lobby. Seriously, sneak them out of the back? Insane.

I am just curious since you brought it up.

Would these people have died if they didnt catch the virus? How much longer would they have lived for, 6 months, 2 years? Exactly, you cannot say.

I cant stand it when people say this.

The virus killed those people period. They were living, now they are not. The virus is the cause of the deaths. People can live a long time with diabetes, people can live a long time with other health issues.

When the government says UNDERLYING MEDICAL CONDITIONS. That could mean they stubbed their damned toe!

Well what else are they supposed to do?

Call the cops secretly and have them detained?

I don't think anyone is truly prepared...
