Ok, so, the difference in figures is the CDC vs the WHO?

Not that I trust either, but I trust the CDCs numbers more than the WHO...

Just FYI..

A gov has to declare a state of emergency and then that releases different funds. They also have to make requests for FEMA and federal aid.. and release of federal funds, stockpile , stuff like that. If we wait for states to do that.. then we are put in a Katrina situation.. where the Gov doesnt follow protocol and people suffer for their hesitation or ignorance of the protocol to get federal aid. If The President declares the emergency.. it releases FEMA and federal aid across the board. Thast so people in individual states in micro blooms dont suffer needlessly.

Here's a link. I was gonna post but you beat me to it

People will get all pissy about it.. but will learn perhaps FEMA is helpful and those mobile ICUs and "camps" arent so bad.. when youre experiencing true air hunger and need to be intubated to breathe, organ failure, and etc.... your outlook changes id think. WIth this sort of response I think our death rate will be "low". I mean its going to be terrible, but it will be low compared to lets say.. when it hits Kenya.

I agree. And I think this is necessary given the circumstances. Otherwise every state is going to declare an emergency eventually. FEMA doesn't always do the best job but I think it's better than nothing. The healthcare workers are going to need all the help they can get.

It's not really the people panicking that worries me.... it's the healthcare system getting overwhelmed in a few weeks.

Well... what/how do you think they get overwhelmed?

One way would be a massive increase in people who normally wouldn't got to their doctor let alone a hospital for the sniffles, who all of a sudden - due to fear-mongering generated panic - start going.

If you would like to know what the future situation in the United States will resemble, the best comparison/predictor is Italy which has 4.3% mortality rate.......

Gonna start seeing some bigger numbers coming out of Iran

"Iran’s health minister says 300,000 health teams will go to every home across Iran to identify people with coronavirus and refer them to medical centres.

Saeid Namaki said for the first time in the world, health teams will go to people’s homes instead of waiting for patients to come to the clinics.

If this is properly managed, it can be said that there has been a major development in the country’s healthcare to the extent that it could be a model for other countries who are struggling against coronavirus, he noted."

Thats already happening. I dont think its going to get better. I have an issue with makeup stains on my white towels ( teen girl and adult girl..) .. so I ran up to get bleach and peroxide.. and there was no bleach on the shelves. I hope they arent drinking it like you read on damned facebook..

I had to use my germicidal bleach on my towels. Dummies are costing me money.

This is what the zombie apocalypse thing was about. Uninformed and panicking groups of people.. who are likely infected with a highly communicable virus.. acting like morons. We were conditioned by this.. and well, I thnk we learned to shoot them. Double tap.

Thats what I said in the first thread on this topic. As first responders we should be going to homes and checking.. rather than setting up an infection station in your local hospital parking lot so you can pass it to eachother repeatedly. We are being prepped for this now.. but still.. coulda done it weeks ago.

"I said it is not - from the evidence we have even now - something to fear.

Tell that to the 3,000 humans who have died. With more to follow in no time.

Fear will not help anyone who is at risk, any more than it will help those who are at extremely low risk.

Is that or is that not a fact?

But ok, maybe I could/should have said 'irrational fear that leads to panic', since that is really what I meant. A little fear can be very healthy thing.

I don’t care about how many people died from icicles or hippos, as like you to distract with irrelevant statistics. All that I know is people over 70 , people with compromised health, and anyone else can be afraid of this virus.

Or, they can respect it, and do what they deem necessary to prevent exposure as much as possible.

One guarantee that I can give, we are all going to die, some day.

How many young doctors and nurses have died on the job in China? You love googling statistics.

I don't know.

How certain are you that what they are dying of is the same bug?

Again... we ... just ... don't ... know.

My 65 year old mom works in an ER at a university hospital. Quit being such a troll and acting like people shouldn’t worry about this virus . I respect your Opinions, but it’s hard to take you serious when you say silly things.

Yeah we all will die someday, does that mean You should go jump in front of a train? No it doesn’t .

Stem Cell Therapy.
I have now contacted the White House and provided information to the Corona Virus task force.

Also I have sent an e-mail to President Trump so that everyone is contacted.

This should not be buried.

We are now heading to the tv news station so stay tuned.

I would think that the CDC should be already aware of this.
Big pharma needs to focus on a vaccine.

Just info. Its not always feasible. It couldnt be applied across the board like a vaccine can... with acceptable failure rates.

People with the sniffles will be turned away. They aren't going to take up beds. I know those people will be annoying but they won't take up needed space.

It's already happening in Italy

" With officials expecting Italy’s numbers to continue rising for at least another week, until containment measures begin to show their effect, the health care emergency in Lombardy has reached a crisis point.

Hospitals in hard-hit Lodi and Cremona were so overwhelmed at times last week, with more sick people arriving than could be accepted, that they closed their emergency rooms and new patients were taken elsewhere."

So, long time lurker, first time poster.
I'ml just south west of Paris, on 2 week hols since saturday. What luck eh

Been to the shops today, not any panick buying, but did see someone I usually see at the train station in the morning buying extra food.
I was mostly getting cat litter, because I forgot last week, and cat food which they didnt have. (she's 18 and very picky).

Havent been shaking hands or "bises" for 3 weeks before hols, so hopefully not got direct contact.
I travel on the trains though, so infection is probably high.

Not feeling sick, but I have the great luck of having a runny nose from october to march-april time, so i'm used to it.
No cough or anything out of the ordinary yet.

My Thoughts :
I did see somewhere that some French (?) scientists had found that the New Coronavirus has 4 new spike proteins or something §?
What people have been confusing with HIV like stuff apparently.
Usually one spike protein is created when the trans-infection occurs between the animals, bat to pig for example.
This has four (apparently, will have to find that link).

These four new spikes would enable a very high transmissibility, but not necessarily a high death rate.
IE : Lots of people will get this, but not many will get the full force of it.

It was also up in the air if you could get reinfected with this.

If it has four infection vectors, then you could gain temprary immunity to one vector, and catch it via another ?
Could you catch it via two vectors at once, or more ?
This could correlate with the four cycles of intection MIM alluded at, and TennisDawg (3+).

I beleive it is already just about everywhere, and the reinfection is the bad bit.

France is still officially at 130, 3 deaths, but there have been at least 10 new cases announced during the day, on top of that, even though the counters don't account for it.

Seriously... what did I say that was silly?

Yeah we all will die someday, does that mean You should go jump in front of a train? No it doesn’t.

Nor does it mean we should run around yelling at people not to go jumping in front of trains (seriously, what you just said is just as silly as that).

Why are you offended by rational, reasonable reactions to what is not going to be, for the vast majority, a serious problem? If it is because your Mom is in the high risk category - welcome to the club. Mine is too.

Some items are starting to sell out at my local grocery store in Irvine California. At 8am this morning they were out of 20lb bags of rice, as well as the store's own brand (cheapest option) of toilet paper and bottled water. I took a photo of the rice shelf. I noticed several people stocking up on water in bulk. I also noticed that the store no longer has cases of water at the entrance as it has for the last two years. They have also posted a notice saying that they have moved the cart wipes inside the store because people were stealing them.
