Tell ya what, politics aside and all, I’ve waited and waited for the last 3 presidencies to wind down the drone program. That was my benchmark. Sadly no. Not happening. Now we have “less lethal knife drones...”
Hope springs eternal I guess?

While I’m no fan of Trump, watching the S. Carolina debates last night looked like high noon in a middle school lunch room food fight. Even so. If Trump can’t figure out how dire this is, SOON, I’m voting against him.....

(Ahem. Pro-tip for you Prez; listen to your medically trained and scientifically grounded subordinates please!)

Clock is ticking #45...don’t F this up!

I think Trump realizes he'll lose the election if this isn't handled correctly, we will see.

There's really no way to handle it correctly. If he starts ordering quarantines, then people will call him a dictator. If he he doesn't, then they will say he let it get out of control. Either way, I think most people understand that sprinkling some socialism on top of a pandemic won't make things better.

I bet tonight's speech will be BS... stocks/economy may be Trump's achilles heal. If he downplays the seriousness of this outbreak tonight to try to help markets then he will likely fall on his sword when the truth comes out and it truly does affect our domestic economy in a bigger way

Not trying to make this political, just looking at Trump's history and in times like this we need leaders who are not afraid to tell it like it is to help raise awareness. In many other ways Trump might "tell it like it is" but not if stocks are part of the discussion IMO

Not to sound like a broken record, but CNN (lol) is saying the press conference tonight is for them to announce their plans of action. CDC lady was added hours after.

Really...a plan of action.... Hmmm
It should be interesting....

The thing about coronavirus is that it does not care if you are a republican or democrat... black, white, or asian. Rich or poor...

This could be what unifies us...??

American voters have very short memory spans. This is too far from the election to have much of an impact on the election results. Once this starts dying down voters will forget because it is not import any more to them. Now if the country experiences civil disobedience, recession, etc that will impact the election but any connection to the virus will be forgotten. They will be different issues for the American voters.

If they really want to make a life-saving choice for the benefit of people, they will use at least some funds to expand ICU beds wherever possible. I mean, quality, ICU beds, in isolated wards, manned by the tech, nursing, and physician staff needed to keep the serious cases from going critical.

Aaand another case in the Canary Islands, a woman from La Gomera who had been in Italy between the 4th and 8th of February.

Just how many cases are there in Italy?!
twitter.com...

So.... 22 days later she is stricken with the illness.
I am beginning to think that the 3 day incubation period might be the outlier.
Scary stuff with an incubation period of 3 weeks and a person spreading it the whole time.

Northern Ireland still seems to have the all clear. Out of the 52 tested, all the results came back negative.

Nope. There IS/ARE ways to handle this correctly. Or better
I don’t care how he gets painted/slandered, DO YOUR JOB TRUMP. He could blow Obama’s healthcare legacy outta the water if he gets this right...

I would get his face tattooed on me if he uses his hotels worldwide to combat this PANDEMIC

How about we start testing for this thing? A start maybe?

Norway has joined the club!

First coronavirus case reported in Norway
From CNN’s Max Ramsay in London

A person has tested positive for coronavirus in Norway, the country’s Institute for Public Health (NIPH) announced in a statement. This is the first case recorded in the Scandinavian country.

The person has no symptoms but was tested after returning from an area of China affected by the outbreak. The NIPH said it was a “weak positive result."

“The NIPH considers it very unlikely that the person poses an infection risk to others," said Line Vold, director of the Department of Infection Control and Preparedness at NIPH.
As a precaution, the person is undergoing quarantine at their home, Vold added.

During his presentation, Fang outlined several hypotheses raised by Taiwanese and overseas researchers, including the probability that the virus was “man-made” and was leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology due to gross mismanagement.

Fang said the Wuhan facility’s biosafety level-4 laboratory was used to store, handle and research samples of SARS, Ebola and other deadly infectious viruses.

“Given China’s poor track record of lab safety management, including a leakage of the SARS virus at a state lab in 2004, it is possible that a virus escaped from the Wuhan facility and resulted in the epidemic,” Fang was quoted by Taiwan’s Central News Agency and the Taipei Times as saying.

He added that analyses of the Covid-19 virus have shown that it had a 96% genetic similarity with an RaTG13 bat virus also stored at the institute, and that the Covid-19 could be “manufactured” by modifying the RaTG13 virus.

Fang also revealed that French researchers had discovered four more amino acids in the gene sequence of Covid-19 than other known coronaviruses, which could be added artificially to make the viral transmission easier.

Determining the source of the virus would have important implications for epidemiology, he added, saying that if the virus was indeed synthetic, then it could be easier for it to be eradicated.

The sample was obtained from a Taiwanese businessperson who was not listed as a confirmed case, as researchers believed his immune system had beaten the virus. Yet the institute said it was still a mystery whether a person who had recovered from a novel coronavirus infection could contract it again.

Based on its success against other coronavirus infections, Gilead provided remdesivir to physicians that treated an American patient infected with Covid-19 and was offering the compound to China for a pair of trials in infected individuals with and without severe symptoms.

The mystery of how and where the virus started may take longer to discover than the cure.

You aren't wrong, but he was 'reported' to be furious over 'them bringing people back behind his back'.

Action is the only action to take right now in his eyes, he has to 'take control'- its what he does best. He cant have cdc out talking him, out smarting him.

He has his own party attacking him, experts contradicting him. Its plain as day what has to be done.

I think he is going to slightly downplay the situation. He is going to tell us not to panic and he trusts us that we will all make sound choices. His speech is carefully written so that if the situation goes either way, he can play off of it.

Just my opinion of course. I could be wrong.

"Low Ratings Fake News MSDNC (Comcast) & @CNN are doing everything possible to make the Caronavirus look as bad as possible, including panicking markets, if possible. Likewise their incompetent Do Nothing Democrat comrades are all talk, no action. USA in great shape!" he tweeted. "I will be having a News Conference at the White House, on this subject, today at 6:00 P.M. CDC representatives, and others, will be there. Thank you!"

what's he gonna say

I know that has probably been posted already, but I think it is a little bit of a tell of what he intends to say.

Sorry if already posted but this looks highly suspicious.
$425M in World Bank catastrophe bonds set to default if coronavirus declared a pandemic by June.

In 2017, the World Bank designed a new way to raise money: Pandemic Emergency Financing bonds. Over $425 million worth of such bonds, which bet against a global outbreak of infectious diseases and will default if WHO declares the coronavirus a pandemic, were sold by the World Bank in its first-ever issuance of catastrophe bonds. In the event of no pandemic, investors would be paid a healthy annualized return. Meanwhile, the World Bank could use the bonds to insure itself against the risk of a global outbreak.

True. But staff and equipment don't come overnight, creating isolation wards take months if it can even be done at some of the hospitals. What do you do with this capacity when the virus has past - mothball it somehow? We will look at it short term then scratch our heads, then say let's throw money at it and say we did the best we can. History continues to repeat itself.
