So here is thing....there are literally already HUNDREDS of people infected with coronavirus in the USA.

This is a fact.

The CDC should have started testing along time ago... they know this as a fact and will limit the amount of testing to decrease the potential of mass panic

I would hope, at some point soon, that hospitals will have the ability to test for Coronavirus like they do for Influenza A & B in the ER. I just keep wondering why we aren't at that point already. I just read that one country conducted 3000 tests in two days (Italy or SK, I can't remember?) and I'm sure they have fewer monetary resources than the U.S. does. We need to step our game up. I wonder if that is what the president is going to talk about at tonight's press conference.

I bet tonight's speech will be BS... stocks/economy may be Trump's achilles heal. If he downplays the seriousness of this outbreak tonight to try to help markets then he will likely fall on his sword when the truth comes out and it truly does affect our domestic economy in a bigger way

Not trying to make this political, just looking at Trump's history and in times like this we need leaders who are not afraid to tell it like it is to help raise awareness. In many other ways Trump might "tell it like it is" but not if stocks are part of the discussion IMO

Not to sound like a broken record, but CNN (lol) is saying the press conference tonight is for them to announce their plans of action. CDC lady was added hours after.

I think Trump realizes he'll lose the election if this isn't handled correctly, we will see.

American voters have very short memory spans. This is too far from the election to have much of an impact on the election results. Once this starts dying down voters will forget because it is not import any more to them. Now if the country experiences civil disobedience, recession, etc that will impact the election but any connection to the virus will be forgotten. They will be different issues for the American voters.

If its anything like what happened in china we are entering a different paradigm.

Corona could be literally like 9/11

Remember there was pre 9/11 and post 9/11

This is what has occurred in China as we speak.

We could be facing the same thing.

Well, there are hundreds confirmed in Italy, so there are probably thousands infected in Italy.

There will be many more thousands in the US. But if you don't look, don't test, you can say there aren't for longer.

Day after never. See: Iron-clad NDAs And here I thought better of Uncle Sam than the CCP. Apparently Trump talked to Xi and “they’re working very, very hard”.
I almost feel better already.

If it weren’t for this chest infection I’m afraid to get tested, or told “you’re fine, it’s a thing goin around”...

If you don't think the American economy will go into panic soon, you all must still believe in Santa Claus. My resent post (www.abovetopsecret.com...) if you read it, will tell/show you all what the heck to expect over night in your "real" world of the corona virus. Its serious and killing people. It is very easy to catch. So easy, that I feel churches if they have any common sense will and must stop services. Yes, then you'll see a lot of churches fail. Let's get real people, America has got so many infected at the moment it is out of control already. Its a silent carrier till your temperature hits 37.5 for 4 consecative (sp) days and they one must see a doctor. I understand you folks ain't testing (well, actually here also) because of the cost. The hospitals should have access to the PCR testing equipment. All infectious disease clinics have for pete's sake.

About 14 per cent of patients who recovered from the novel coronavirus and were discharged from hospitals in southern China's Guangdong province were tested positive again in later check-ups, according to the local health authority.

A positive test suggests the recovered patients may still carry the virus, adding complexity to efforts to control the outbreak.

There is no clear conclusion on why it happens and whether such patients could still be infectious, said Song Tie, deputy director of the Guangdong Centre of Disease Control And Prevention (Guangdong CDC), at a Tuesday (Feb 25) briefing.

Over 30 schools and counting closed in the UK due to students returning from Italy in half term either on school trips or holidays with family
Some displaying flu like symptoms and others not

www.dailymail.co.uk...

Also hearing stories from people who are getting confused about the 111 advice. A guy came back from northern italy to the UK and has a bad flu like illness - advice from 111 was to stay at home and will get a call back. A doctor calls back later and doesn't want to test him for cv, saying 'we must be pragmatic, it's probably just a bug'
Seems advice is very hit and miss, there seems not set pathway to getting a test.

Also watched the local news and a woman came on to be interviewed (wasn't clear who she was, she didn't seem to have much authority) and the anchor said 'should we be worried?' and the woman said 'no, not at all, there is no reason to be worried etc etc' Very much downplaying the fact that many school children have come back from Italy and are reporting illness. They said some are waiting on test results, so will listen out for those soon.

PLEASE REMEMBER they will lie directly to your FACE.

Perfect example Iran Health Minister literally about to pass out because HE is infected with Corona...

Yet tells his people NOT to worry everything is going to be okay....

This is such BS!!!

Agreed. Gotten more quiet... Maybe if it’s not talked about it’ll go away. Sigh...

I dont think that is it at all, I think most of the nay say'ers have started to realize that its spreading and they are staying quite now. Also we are no longer arguing about numbers and asking for graphs on every other page We also have pretty much stopped discussing if its a weapon or if this a natural virus. Now we are are getting to the nitty gritty and watching the numbers creep up and starting to prepare. There has been a huge mind set shift in the last 3 days as we are all coming to terms with the fact that anyone of us or some one we know can and will be impacted in some way by this.

Italy has reached the 400's. Meanwhile, Japan is lagging at 178 even though it had confirmed cases a lot earlier. What might be the factor here? Obviously response time is critical, but still, there must be something else, right?

Thanks for all of your updates, much appreciated. I know an old friend of mind currently in Iwakuni, I asked him about the virus and how that is affecting him, and the area he’s in . He basically said nothing is going on and not to believe the media, that it’s overhyped. I was rather shocked he said that. How far away are you from iwakuni?

In my neck of the woods 3 hours south of Chicago, luckily not a large city, private citizens would be shooting looters too (there are not enough cops, so folks would protect themselves mostly).

I can contest to this

I wonder if it isn't just related to the people that are doing the counting?
Some might be hiding numbers, but probably more connected to who and how they are testing.

Italy isn't being honest, the Gomeran woman got infected during a trip to Italy that ended on February 8th.

The first official Italian case was diagnosed on the 21st.

I might suggest that the Japanese are nearly obsessive compulsive about hygiene, culturally. The Iranians (and maybe Italians also to a lesser degree?), not so much.

Look. I’ve been here from Day 1/Thread 1. Came out of the shady lurker shadows to throw my hat in the ring. If my caustic sarcasm isn’t your thing, or it’s over your heads, it’s just my way of dealing with all this. I mean no offense. I’m actually very sympathetic to the plights we are facing and appalled at woefully underprepared and tragically ostrich-like world governments are being about this.

So I apologize.
My rationale is my own, but I feel that most everyone on here has a better understanding than most everyone else anywhere in the web, or world at large. Wishing you and yours the best ATS.

This whole event (201) is playing out with serious implications for more than elections, supply-chains, medicine and medical protocols, info-sharing (or lack thereof). This is the only place I see people acting with dignity and uniformly trying to assess the surrealities of this thing. Thank you to everyone posting and keeping tabs.

I’m just a sad excuse for poorly chosen comic relief.

Nope. There IS/ARE ways to handle this correctly. Or better
I don’t care how he gets painted/slandered, DO YOUR JOB TRUMP. He could blow Obama’s healthcare legacy outta the water if he gets this right...

I would get his face tattooed on me if he uses his hotels worldwide to combat this PANDEMIC

How about we start testing for this thing? A start maybe?

Testing doesn't really accomplish much except getting the numbers right. All he can do is slow it down at the cost of the economy. In all reality, it cannot be stopped. It can be slowed until a vaccine is available, which may be never, or we can simply let it go unchecked. You can't stop a virus that has asymptomatic transmission with up to a 30 day incubation period. It's impossible.
