Welcome back. I too took a sabbatical from ATS for a while. I am also back due to the quality of information that is gathered.

Thanks for (re-)emerging from the shadows and contributing based on what you see in Colombia. Anything different there? Public service announcements or "rumors", suspected cases, etc.?

I can't figure out if SHTF if I'm in a good area or a bad area. I'm next to an airport not massive but decent sized. We are next to a highway, to our West is our school district and it's rural but, to our east is Flint, Mi. It's where my husband works and my kids go to college. (My middle schooler is at the rural school)

Downtown Flint is very safe only because of the combined efforts of Kettering University and University of Michigan Police force.

If you step 2 blocks outside that you are lucky to get a cop to show up to an assault. Breaking and Entering? Forget it. You have to go to the police station to file they won't come.

I'm lucky... I guess? I'm on a dead end with the airport fence to help.

But on the flip side sometimes our hospital er is empty. I was there on Christmas for my Uti ...not a soul I was shocked. I was taken right back.

In my neck of the woods 3 hours south of Chicago, luckily not a large city, private citizens would be shooting looters too (there are not enough cops, so folks would protect themselves mostly).

My WAG would be if you are north of Lansing and west of Flint the majority of any refugee movement should probably go south towards more settled areas where there will be potentially more resources for them.

Biggest risk in your area should be people who have more resources on hand and are trying to follow the movie thing of bugging out to rural areas to survive.

There are 400 coronavirus cases in Italy

From CNN's Livia Borghese in Rome and Sharon Braithwaite in London

Italy now has 400 cases of coronavirus, according to Angelo Borrelli, head of Italy’s Civil Protection agency.

The three coronavirus cases reported in Rome have now recovered, Borrelli said.

He also gave further details about the statistics so far: half of the positive cases do not need hospitalization; and 4 out of 5 only have mild symptoms.

The regional breakdown is:

258 in Lombardy
71 in Veneto
47 in Emilia Romagna
11 Liguria
3 Piemonte
3 Lazio
3 in Sicily
2 in Tuscany
1 Bolzano, Trentino
1 in Marche

Good for Rome, maybe? The problem is, I think this virus can persist on surfaces for a long time per this study, especially in high humidity areas.

Supposedly there's no coronavirus cases here currently. I find that hard to believe, as the only checking they have done in airports is to ask people how are they feeling lol. A couple of weeks ago a rumor started circulating online; a nurse from a small city called Ibague scanned the medical history of a patient in treatment. He was in his middle 30's and had arrived from Wuhan some days ago. He was having all the typical symptoms unleashed by this virus, but he was diagnosed with a different coronavirus strain. HOWEVER, he died 3 days later. I haven't heard anything about this story ever since.

As someone that received a kidney transplant last year after having been on peritoneal dialysis for many years, I can say that some our hospitals are marvelous, having the latest technology and great doctors. Healthcare insurance is relatively cheap, and at least in my case they have behaved quite professionally. The main problem is that not everyone has this insurance, there's at least dozens of companies that are corruption havens. People can die of cancer, having waited for many months, even year for an authorization to their treatment. Or die of kidney failure because they never get to receive their dialysis treatment.

Even if there's many good hospitals, they are mostly situated in Bogotá and Medellín. Other cities are terrible in comparison. The country has no capacity whatsoever to deal with coronavirus when it arrives here. Simple flu season causes a collapse as there's simply too many people to treat at the same time. Also, Colombian people like most Latin Americans tend to be very relaxed, and dare I say, do not possess high IQ? Most individuals do not like to read nor investigate. I have tried posting information concerning the coronavirus for weeks on my FB, ironically it is only my foreign friends the ones showing interest.
Most millennials and centennials are aligned with leftist ideology (thank you university!) be it of the Californian Woke trend (upper class) or straight Marxist-Leninist. Anyway, most of them have come to the conclusion that Coronavirus is an American conspiracy based on destryong the reputation of China lol. They also think China is admirable for having built "two amazing hospitals" within a week.

I seem to notice this thread with new posts is slowing down a bit? Thinking maybe people are getting burned out or there just isn’t much new info thats worth posting? Maybe that’s a good sign, I hope, but then again the no news is good news always bites me in the arse.

I do agree it's slowing down. People are burnt out I believe. It's been what, 4-5 weeks of speaking about this? I do hope it slows down, but when you see the media speaking about it more, it means there's an opposite trend on the rise.

Here is the info on Canada’s 12th case (if confirmed positive, currently presumptive positive). This would be Ontario’s 5th case, with the others being in BC.

A woman in her 60’s returned from Iran on February 15th and went to Sunnybrook Hospital on February 24th. It’s the whereabouts in between that concern me across the board, contributing to potential spread.

It looks like they are not sure if they will contact those near her on the flight from Iran to Canada.

The airlines don't seem to be a hotbed of spreading beyond transporting people around. If they were, you'd have lots of stewardesses and even pilots getting ill, but you don't. I think you need a little more time in contact or tighter contact than a (relatively) brief flight.

Airports might be worse or more dangerous.

Walt Disney World officials keeping a close eye on employees who recently traveled to Italy

A Walt Disney spokesperson says they are monitoring several employees at the Florida theme park who recently traveled to Italy during the coronavirus outbreak.

The spokesperson tells CNN that there are no suspected cases of the coronavirus at Walt Disney World and are working alongside health department officials to take proactive measures.

It is unclear how many Disney employees traveled to Italy.

Unfortunately, large gathering places like Walt Disney World are a great way to further spread this virus throughout the world.

Hard to believe unless they isolated all of the Chinese from one another. Not likely, although may happen at some point.

Coronavirus cases in France rises to 18

France is now reporting its 18th case of coronavirus, the country's Health Minister said in a news conference in Paris.

The latest case is the wife of someone already diagnosed and in a hospital in the town of Annecy. “Her state of health is not worrying”, Veran said.

“There is no epidemic in France," he added.

Nothing to see here ... move along.
