History Forum proposal. :)

Gaging if anyone would like this?

I don't want you gaging, but I like this. I feel like there are a number of forums that are barely used currently and could be absorbed into General Chit Chat to make way for a history forum, a pets forum and a few others.

I think history threads should be on the front page of ATS every single day. imho.

No. I think the less used forums like automotive discussion and others like Peak Oil, 2012, Disaster Conspiracies, SETI At Home Discussion, could be absorbed into general chit chat or general conspiracies to make room for forums like a history forum and pets forum that members all seem to want and would be far more popular.

If you want pets you can go to reddit. They have pet pictures all day long that you can look at.

I thought this was a conspiracy site?

If I was the admin I would delete all the non-conspiracy crap. There are other sites that are dedicated to dogs and cats.

Have you seen the Off Topic area? This isn't just a conspiracy site.

I don't know how to make it more clear to you what I'm suggesting.

Look through these forums. I'm suggesting many can be lumped in together to make way for History etc.

Make room for history forum = good. Make room for pet forum = good. Get rid of unused forums to do so = good. Redundancy = bad. What are you not getting?

Having just completed the first phase of a project that tied in to this time frame, I completely agree. Further, I have found that the first requirement in a research project is to find "that guy" (non-gender-specific)...the resident expert. It's disconcerting when "that guy" turns out to be one-self. An History Forum would help to expand that net.

I am opposed to a dedicated history forum. General Conspiracies is the forum for history questions related to conspiracies.

I can partially understand and sympathize with those ATS users who believe that a dedicated history forum would be an improvement upon the status quo.

A dedicated history forum would become a ghetto forum, where unsuspecting naives are preyed upon by political trolls and the moderators enforce a certain paradigm of reality based on the "official narratives".

That is what happened over at reddit. You should look at the reddit sub-forums for history just to see how history has become more like selecting food in a drive through menu... Gimme a #2 with cheese, if you please. We cannot allow ATS moderators to influence or assume power to control the narratives of history because history is always tricky, and we underestimate it's tricks. So we must always be more careful with history.

ATS would need twenty more moderators to patrol the history forum because the political trolls will come out in full force to enforce their agenda of "official narratives". Reagan was a great president. Nixon was a great president.. Eisenhower was a great president. and then the other side will have to respond that Harry Truman was a great president.... JFK and LBJ were great presidents... Carter was a great president and Bill mofo Clinton was an awesome president... etc...

There's TOO MANY forums on this site as it is.... please, we need FEWER forums, not more. It takes 20 minutes to decide where to post a topic as it.

You should first explain why you really want a dedicated history forum and explain why you would want to participate in a dedicated history forum. What are you trying to accomplish? Will you allow "official history" or "alternative narraitves"?

History is not concrete and it is always subject to revision. General Conspiracies is the perfect forum for questions about the historicity of events, sources and tags, quoting the "experts", and there is really no reason to have another dedicated sub forum dedicated to "history".

VOTE NO HISTORY FORUM!

I too am a history buff...

What about just renaming the "Ancient Civilizations" forum to the "History" forum ?

This way it could be an all-encompassing histrocity, rather than one particular aspect of it ?

The added bonus is that it would save SO from horsing around trying to set up a new one ?

Zazzafrazz, you can't always get what you want. But if you try sometime to post in General Conspiracies, you just might find, you get what you need.

There is no necessity for a dedicated history forum. The General Conspiracies forum will always have more coverage, more readers, more responses and more interaction.

Will you allow moon hoax threads in the history forum? This is not a trick question.
