I drink one coke can about once every two weeks. I am more of a meat and potatoes kind of gal to begin with.

I occassionally buy those monsterous stripes cokes (basically for the large plastic cups) they are always handy and refillable. If I had to choose, it will be some mesquite sirloin steak over a huge coke and not both btw.

Hmmm... as for the surloin steak... i would go for a good bottle of Malbec or Cabernet (or if i had one left somewhere in my wine cellar a nice bottle of Château St Georges St Emilion 1966).. yum yum

…and with that I'm salivating! Lunch time, right?

I agree that the giant soda "kegs" are really not my thing, just too damn much sugar. Sometimes I think we're being tested to see how much of our freedoms can be taken. I enjoy a drop of Pepsi once in a while and
a little Coke in my bourbon, but we're adults here, we can make our own choices healthy or not.

I once hosted relatives from London whom had never been to the US and they were shocked at how many
fat people there are and they didn't care much for the food, said everything is too sweet.

The experience gave me a different perspective on the American diet for sure.

I'm pretty sure soda isn't just an American thing. From what I recall, CocaCola signs are even in the most remote places of Africa.

Having said that, I find the tone of your contention somewhat biased against Americans. You can always move here if you're secretly jealous of us.

Good point. Many years ago, I took a tour of the Coca Cola museum in Atlanta. On the tour you visit a room dedicated to the tastes of the world. 60 different brands and flavors from around the world. They had to close the exhibit briefly to clean up someone's vomit after tasting some of the offerings. The different tastes of the world are quite unique and as diverse as the cultures.

Did you hear that folks?

Amerika is the only country in the entire world with "fat people" !

OH damn is that really because of big gulps or just the fact people spend hours in front of their 'puters watching gangnam style?

Yo!

Want to drink water go right ahead
Want to drink a coke and have a smile go right ahead.
Want to drink a cup of tea go right ahead.

Why the hell judge people for what drink eh?

What would I do without large sodas?

Go buy a 12, pack,28 pack or buy it by the case like they sell alcohol.

12-ounce cup (child size): 23 grams sugar and 95 calories
16-ounce cup (small): 31 grams sugar and 128 calories
21-ounce cup (medium): 44 grams sugar and 180 calories
32-ounce cup (large): 65 grams sugar and 267 calories

There's a problem right there ^

These days a child size sugary drink is 12 oz.
1 cup = 8 oz.

Why did anyone ever decide that children should be having 12 oz serving sizes of sugary drinks?

The real issue is we can decide for ourselves what we can buy, not the government.

The government has been wrapping its tentacles into our lives more and more every year, at what point will we get to choose anything for ourselves, without the 'help' of a 'benevolent and well-meaning' massive, powerful government?

I want a normal toilet. Government says Low Flow only!

I want incandescent light bulbs. Government says No!

I want to buy health insurance from a provider in another state. Government says No!

I want to not buy insurance while I'm not earning quite enough and I'm very young and healthy. Government says You Will Buy.

I want to use the taxes I pay to public school to send my kid to a private school. Government says No!

I want salty food fried in saturated fat and a big honking soda! Government says We Know Whats Best For You!

Which apparently includes cigarettes, which are not banned. Yet.

What happened to Choice? Remember when some were all for it?

Enough of government meddling in my life, making living expenses skyrocket, wasting my time with soul-less unmotivated bureaucrats, all for my own good, of course.

I'm done with having to justify my choices to nosy busy-bodies who need to mind their own business.

"Hey, you dont NEED all that money. Why do you NEED that gun? Why do you NEED it to shoot so many bullets? You dont NEED to eat that, drink that...."

Its amazing how anyone can manage their own life with out some people determining what I "Really Need". Who the hell is anyone to expect me to justify to them anything at all? Ever?

I choose for me, and self-appointed do-gooders can get stuffed.

(YOUR) hard earned money being spent to cover these problems..

Are hard earned money is being over spent with illegal aliens and people without medical coverage. Also over charged due to frivolous lawsuits since there is no tort reform.
We can start with those problems first to save money.

Beer will be next. I am surprised it is not first. Oh the slippery slope will never end. If America allows them to ban soda it will be a never ending story of bans on everything you can think of. Just think freedom and vote. Before they are done you won't be allowed to shave, because a slight cut could get infected and Obamacare would have to pay for that. Be very very careful what you wish for. As for obesity? Education on combating that should start in grammer school.

What would you do without your large Sodas in the USA? Let me point out the obvious... Or not~

1. Video Gaming would be on the decline as how can you or anyone sit and play 10hrs of a game without a sugary soda!

2. We would still have obese people (this is not secular to soda drinkers nor the USA)

3. We would find another substance to over consume ourselves with, maybe water dun dun dun~

We dont like bans. Do you like some rich prats telling you what you can and cannot have/do?
On principle alone it is my duty to oppose any and everything that someone tries to force me to do.
Personally I prefer iced tea with lemon and a dash of honey.

I don't even drink soda, but as I am sure many have already posted, it's a matter of choice! Nobody should be told how large their drink can be, it's ludicrous.
We are supposed to be a free nation, and it is turning out to be a massive lie.
If someone wants to drink a gallon of soda, what does it hurt you or anyone else?
I am a grown woman, if I want to smoke cigarettes, I know it's not good for me, but it's MY choice and nobody elses to make. I smoke outside for that same reason, because my kids didn't make the choice to smoke, and I hope they never do. It is up to a grown adult to make their own decisions in life, and as long as they are not hurting anyone else, then people need to butt out.

Ill die without my soda!

Seriously though I think a reduced amount is both a good and bad thing. Good because it keeps us from drinking a whole lot in one sitting. I find myself drinking more and more water now than I did before and I already limit myself to 2 glasses of soda per day no matter what size they are.

As for the bad, its bad because if we want more we would have to spend more. Good for companies, bad for us.

its not the size of the cup, its what you drink from it that counts

The politician in Indiana that wanted to reduce the cup sizes, banning the largest sizes, yet keeping all the sizes available for water - which came across as rather ridiculous - especially since nearly all stores that have soda dispensers also have refrigerated soda bottles that are, yes you guessed it, larger than the largest cups anyway *facepalm*

In reply to the question posed by the thread title...
I'd probably just get more free refills.
In response to the post....
As others have mentioned, it's just another way we are loosing freedom of choice. Trust me on this, I have kidney problems that drinking soda aided in. Had to quite the stuff. I know better than most just how bad for you it is, doesn't mean I think it should be restricted. I knew it wasn't good for me before it made my issue worse, nobody thinks it's good for them. It's a choice you have to live with in the end. The government is not your mommy.
