Life was a hell of a lot better when we had people who paid the price of their own decisions and were told "Damn, sucks to be you." Now, as we're all paying for someone else's choices it's more of a "Sucks to be us." situation.

Medicare has been around for a long time...we have always been paying for other folks health choices, but never as much as they pay for those decisions...take a walk through a nursing home sometime.

That and folks live longer now....and "processed" foods is very big business these days.

Meh...who cares if NYC bans "bucket" drinks of soda. Actually it might be a relief to go to the movies and actually be able to order a drink size fit for human consumption, rather than the HUGE, OVERPRICED "SMALL" they offer. A movie theater small is 32 ounces! Eff, that drives me nuts...and they don't let you bring your own water or soda! Where is the freedom there?

Eliminiate public health spending entirely and guess what?

Everyone's tax dollars go toward the epidemic of diabetes in this country...and it is an epidemic...

Then that would be covered by private dollars because, as I stated above, I'd eliminate public spending on health. BYE BYE OBAMACARE and all the abominations which lead us down that road, sayonara tax dollars used for anything outside disease research and grants.

You mean Medicare?...right..cuz they are the ones paying the most for the USA being #1 in Diabetes....

Drink buckets of sugar now...pay for it when you are 60.

1. That is a private business decision. Freedom relates to government decisions and laws (like the one Supernanny Bloomburg attempted to pass and watched get swatted back into his face by the Dikembe Mutumbo of state judges.) You have the freedom to choose not to go to a movie theater. To my knowledge, there isn't any ObamaTainment bill on the horizon mandating purchasing of Fandango tickets. (Though there could be considering all the jack he rakes in from Hollywood during his fund raisers.)

2. Nobody is holding your mouth open and forcing you to chug that whole 32 oz of drink, my friend. On the rare occassions I go to the movies, I get the 72 oz. Gold Peak unsweetened iced tea. Most theaters I've seen also sell, albeit overpriced, bottles of water for more discerning patrons.

16-ounce cup (small): 31 grams sugar and 128 calories
21-ounce cup (medium): 44 grams sugar and 180 calories
32-ounce cup (large): 65 grams sugar and 267 calories

I have a feelng these numbers are wrong. Did these measurements take into consideration the amount of ice added to the cup size thus reducing actual amount of soda in the cup? I didnt see any mention of that In the link.

Its great to see Bloomberg get struck down. He's such an assface

The assumption of Medicare is very similar to social security. The idea is that those who have to use it after 65 have spent 40 years paying into it. As with many American systems, it has become poluted and bastardized by tinkerers, adding more eligibility for those not 65 or older and those who never paid into it. Restore it to what it was originally written as and it would be fixed.

I agree that people should be allowed to have the option to choose what they consume freely in countries like US.

However in many of the places with nationalized health care, I would be happier If I know that my taxes goes towards healing the unfortunate more so, then the ones who deliberately and knowingly poison them selves.

The constitution of most commercial sodas is highly acidic, with Coca-Cola having a pH of 2.8. Normal blood pH level is around 7.3-7.4, which is slightly alkaline. Anything lower then that (more acidic that is), has been linked with cancers and other diseases.

Something to think about.

Orange juice has a pH of about 2.8 and has roughly the same sugar amount as soda.

I also wonder if what we consume has an effect on the bodies pH level anyway. From what i read the effect is negligible.

Here is a starting point for some research:

How_does_your_body_maintain_a_stable_blood_pH

That being said, i dont advise consuming too much sugar, although i am not a scientist. For the record, I consumed zero sugar today and have 32-33 waist line.

Even though a soda ban would not affect me personally as I do not drink soda I think if people wish to drink large sugary drinks that is their own business and no business whatsoever of any governing body. Tell me, how are high calorie drinks any worse than fluoridated water or cancer causing artificial sweeteners? If anything they are less damaging to the human body.

I think its up to the individual to choose what he or she wants to put in its body so long it does not to harm to anybody else.

Citric acid is not benzene, acesulfame, aspartame and excito-toxin
Orance juice has real fruit sugars. Not HFCS or xylene.

Orange juice has a good amount of minerals and nutrients in it. Soda has none.

I was referring to the ones that DO contain sugar, although the non diet sodas in the U.S contain high fructose corn syrup i think thats all. I am not an expert on soft drink making.

Some realities for those of you outside north America

3 liters of soda $1.25

3 liters of natural fruit juice $26.00

those are retail prices at my supermarket

it's 110F here in the summer I have a plastic 64 oz cup and drink 3 litres of pop a day and sweat it off a day as well.

I'm 6'4 210 lbs ( thats about 105 kilos and just shy two meters)

would I drink natural fruit juice, heck ya, but WHO CAN AFFORD IT????

Same with fast food, I can get a burger for a buck, and in my fast paced driving job I don't have time to cook..

Prices have as much to do with consumption as taste or "likes"

That's only part of the picture. You need to know what your insulin level is. You can have a nice blood sugar of 75 and an out of control insulin level of 30. Too much insulin is as bad or worse than too much sugar. Lots of docs don't measure it.

Natural fruit juice is just as bad as a soda. Fruit juice is highly concentrated sugar and none of the fiber that's normally in fruit to blunt it. Here's an interesting site you can compare the sugar in things:

I rarely drink the stuff. Last one I had was about 3 months ago and that was a medium with a burger. But, I should be able to buy it by the gallon if I want to..

No.

As I am not a subject, I choose not to explain myself. That is all the explanation your entitled to, or that I am required to give.
