Time to take the gun from the American public!

Dear OP,

You must not be from around here, nor do you really understand history in the sense of a nations right to defend itself under the guise of a established democracy.

a few points to shoot across yer brow if i may, and we've beaten this horse before.

1) Taking guns away will not stop crime.

2) A armed society is a polite society.

3) if someone is hell bent on doing you harm, gun or no gun, they're gonna find a way to do it.

4) Guns are the reason why this country has not been invaded by another country, and the last 2 that tried was stopped short of their effort due to the fact that everyone here owns guns.

5) A gun is a tool, much like a power drill, a sledge hammer, a knife, even a lowly ole frying pan. If applied with force to a human body, it will likely kill you.

6) Guns aren't the problem, the laws set forth by the government to hinder its citizens to their god given right to defend themselves is.

Are you starting to understand? I have no interest in what you choose to buy and what you choose to do in your life....they are your actions and none of my business. I would appreciate if you would stay out of mine and stop trying to dictate how lawful people should live theirs. I assure you the problem isn't as big as you think it is.

Maybe you should be trying to get guns banned in Africa where the dictators there like to kill thousands of their own for no good reason...why not? By your logic thats murder also isn't it? Betcha if some of those african villagers had guns...less of them would be dead.

America will only remain free if we are allowed to defend ourselves, guns are the tool that makes that assertion easier. Those who would give up freedom in place of security deserve neither.

WWII was a conflict between countries and their armies. It had nothing to do with american citizens who arm themselves in their home.

Ever heard of the Phoenix Project,SOCOM or even the term infiltration?
You evidently know squat about jungle, urban warfare and reconnaissance,history and you obviously have never been in a war.My Cavalry squadron (A combined arms battalion)would die in Compton,with air,with artillery.Why?
Because even Black widows die in ant hills.
We could do damage but that would just make it far worse.Then they would steal our guns and weapons to go after the next hapless unit.

Australian Police carry guns because Australia is full of immigrant crime families from Russia, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Africa, Europe, United States, Latin America, Phillipines, Middle East. They all have guns and the Australian Police are S*&T scared of them..

Also a lot of the country hicks have guns and they do shoot just about anything that moves for fun.

We have armed Indonesian Fishing fleets that constantly invade the AU coastline as far south as Sydeny, because their fishing grounds are empty. We have religious crackpot organisations detinating small nuclear devices in our outback and poachers killing/smuggling our wildlife (Fisheries and Wildlife officers also carry guns).

We have Gang Warfare and violence on our transport systems and now our Transport Potective services also carry sidearms.

People seem to think that Australia is such a lovely place to visit and that we are the lucky country...lol

We are just as swamped with violent crime as the rest of the world and it's worse for us, cause we have about 1/5 the population of the US. So the crimes are more noticable.

Don't make any difference that the majority of Australians were disarmed two decades ago, the people who do all the crimes still have them and the victims are the ones who didn't have them to protect themselves.

The law here clearly states that it is illegal to protect yourself. That is the job of the police, Victims of crime should never fight back. The victim should always allow criminals to rape or even kill them (or face being charged themselves). But it's OK, The law will eventually avenge you by catching the criminal and put him in prison for 5 - 6 years (you usually only get longer than 10 years for repeat offences...lols)

Americans have it so damn lucky with the freedoms they have. I hope you shove your guns down the throats of anyone who tries to take them from you and blow them clean away..!!

Ask Pol Pot, Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and all your other idealist, utopian world buddies about gun control. It's funny how people so open minded that their brains fall out all have some "perfect world" perception that only sounds nice in their delusional mind that in application would turn society into "1984" on steroids.

The irony is that in such a situation you "peacenics" would die fast, and hard. Most people who own weapons also train their most important weapon, the mind. The crime rate in America is going down, and by a considerable rate. It's the sensationalism of what crimes still happen that has increased. If this is so true, then shouldn't that also apply to Christians who revolve their lives around a book that was written over 2000 years ago..>

Because a lot of the people calling for these reforms are mainly christian group, who want guns out of peoples hands. They are being very contridictive by saying that a 230 year old proclimation should be voided, but will never give up their own bible, which is just as oudated...!!

It has been demonstrated time and again in these forums that countries where citizens are disarmed experience MORE CRIMES, and including crimes with guns, and including handguns, than it was before the draconian laws banning citizens from owning firearms.

We do not need a new Constitution, we need the government to abide and protect the U.S. Constitution and the PEOPLE they are supposed to represent.

For your information even Ghandi knew that allowing citizens from owning firearms is important to keep a nation free and safe.

We don't need the military to roam the streets advocating Martial Law, we need more citizens armed, so when another criminal, or criminals decide to commit a crime they can be stopped by the citizens.

Very true, I can't see anyone disagreeing with that but I don't think anyone has claimed it will stop crime. It will reduce the number of shootings though. Even if you take out the number of armed criminals you will have a number of people involved in shootings that either have just had the day from hell or they are on a melt down. How many lives have been saved by the victims having a gun? That's a very hard figure to work out.

So is an unarmed one, depending on the values and culture.

Sure, but with the ease at which guns can be acquired the chances are that person will use a gun.

I seriously don't think the reason you've not been invaded is due to everyone owning guns. It's more to do with the strength of your military.

It's the fact that they have range and can pump out multiple shots is the problem. Sure I can see the benefits of having one for defence if you are being attacked but you'd have to have prior warning, enough to unclip, aim and fire.

You could say nukes or explosives aren't the problem but the people who use them.
We have a grey area on defending yourself which has been addressed and we can use 'reasonable force' on an attacker. Yeah, great if you're fit and able but the reality of you becoming a statistic of violent crime is very low.

Come on and tryin take my guns bubba. I'll give it to you barrel first. I cant argue with the instances that you provided where people killed someone with guns. I can say however why not go and check the statistics on deaths related to automobiles in the country or even in your own country. I guarantee you the number is even higher than that with guns. Then check out the number of guns to the number of crimes related to guns. The media shows people all the deaths and pshycos but they never show the responsibile gun owners because that dosent make for good news.

Trust me on this even if they were to take guns away it wouldnt make a difference. Criminals will still find ways to get their hands on guns. The only ones that are going to benefit from a gun ban are the criminals because that shows them that all law abiding citizens will now be unarmed therefore become easier targets. The second one that would benefit would be the government folk who then would have unarmed pesants that they could then totally dominate. Trust me if guns were takin out of the hands of responsible owners like myself and many others the crime rate would double if not quadruple because people would become easy targets. I'm sorry but most criminals will hesitate if they believe that the person they are choosing to victimize may be packing heat.

My point here is guns dont kill people. People kill people. (as do husbands that come home early) If someone is dead set on taking the life of another they are going to find a way no matter what. They will use knives, clubs, vechicles, poison, explosives or their bare hands even. So bottom line is taking guns from responible citizens isnt going to solve anything. I dont know where you are from but I apologize that you do not get to experience the piece of mind that comes with being able to own your own gun. But I respectfully ask dont try to take my freedoms away as well.

Fair enough on the ability to demonize a segment of the population. You're right on that. Half the nation was ready to go lynch militias after the 1995 OK bombing. I suppose another incident of that kind played hard in the right directions for public sympathy could do terrible things for things to follow.

It always amazes me how Americans just dont get it when it comes to guns, despite the fact its legal for most of you to carry weapons for "safety" you have by far and away the highest number of gun deaths in the world. About needing them in the face of a foreign invasion... thats just ridiculous. If any foreign army can best the worlds most technologically advanced and most experienced army then your semi automatics with night vision and laser scopes arent gonna do you much good.

You want criminals to have no guns, make guns completely illegal and impose a mandatory jail sentence on anyone caught with a gun, Give it 10-20 years and America should be in line with the rest of the civilised world.

The whole countries attitude needs to change, it should never be acceptable nor necessary to own a gun

I used to feel that way too. However, when you consider the age of the Country and it's early history, you can understand how gun ownership is popular amongst its citizens. Not that many generations have past from tits early days. Give it a few hundred more and it will be a different story. Maybe they'll still have them, i don't know.

What you are seeing is the result of years of anti-gun lies and rhetoric, making people afraid of guns. Looks like it worked on you.

So people don't carry them for protection like many should. Businesses don't allow guns on their property as a condition of employment, rendering their employees helpless to defend themselves when some disgruntled ex-employee saunters through the front door to melee on their former boss and whoever else happens to be around.

Guns aren't allowed on college campuses, rendering the students helpless to defend themselves when some half-baked student cracks under pressure and decides to take it out on the people around him.

I am not sure that some people get it. When most of the people I know say "From my cold dead hands." its not just some saying they like to spout out. We mean it. There are not enough police and military in the nation. It would be a bloodbath, but perhaps that is what they want I suppose. Gungrabbing advocates, just remember that people like you brought the bloodiest war in the history of the world upon the nation if it ever does happen. Hope you got a bulletproof house and a bomb shelter, because it will get ugly, and wherever you live will not be immune to the death and destruction that would be rained down.
