Actually my "assumption" is based on knowledge of the substance and unless this individual opened his mouth up and ingested half of the bottle it is nonsense.

Does it really matter? What is the issue here? Is it why some protester was throwing up or is it about why police use weapons on non violent people?

It makes no difference to me what the effects were to police, protesters, or spectators. The problem here is that Police used a weapon on people who were not resisting arrest, not fighting, and not a threat. The fact is, if this protesters is full of crap, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on if Police had not used Pepper Spray to begin with and broken the law themselves.

For those with asthma, taking other drugs, or subject to restraining techniques which restrict the breathing passages, there is a risk of death. The Los Angeles Times has reported at least 61 deaths associated with police use of pepper spray since 1990 in the USA.[8] The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) documented 27 people in police custody who died after exposure to pepper spray in California since 1993.[4][9][10] However, the ACLU report counts any death occurring within hours of exposure to pepper spray. In all 27 cases, the coroners' report listed other factors as the primary cause of death, though in some cases the use of pepper spray may have been a contributing factor.

en.wikipedia.org...

Are you sure it's so safe?

Did you read the whole thing?
"The coroners' report listed other factors as the primary cause of death"

Did you read the whole thing?

The US Army concluded in a 1993 Aberdeen Proving Ground study that pepper spray could cause "[m]utagenic effects, carcinogenic effects, sensitization, cardiovascular and pulmonary toxicity, neurotoxicity, as well as possible human fatalities. There is a risk in using this product on a large and varied population".[9] However, the pepper spray was widely approved in the US despite the reservations of the US military scientists after it passed FBI tests in 1991. As of 1999, it was in use by more than 2000 public safety agencies.

The Army concluded that it was potentially deadly and toxic when used on a varied population. Funny how that works, isn't it?

The site you posted stated that officers are directed to use PS in 1 second bursts unless in direct harm...that is not true. Even for corrections officers entering into a cell for extraction a 2-3 second burst is utilized and guidelined. And even if that was the case he went down the line and contacted each person for less than a second.

It was, nevertheless, unnecessary action for him to take. They were practically in full riot gear. Clearly, spraying the sitting people was simply a show of force and authority, not a means of defense and apprehension.

Absolutely not!!
The israelis use them as well.
And when the israeli soldiers get...... ummm.... disarmed of their pepper guns then they are authorized to go full guns.
Hmm maybe these cops were israelis, they give a similar feel.

So why isn't the consumption of peppers outlawed in the U.S. if Cap is as dangerous as wiki claims (I know that you know that wiki can be edited by internet users). Not to mention things like non-menthol based pain reliever creams? Everything has side effects for some small section of the population. If you want me to back track on whether or not this guy may have had an adverse reaction...I will he may have. But don't misrepresent the fact that it is an isolated incident.

SO what was the appropriate action? They were locked arms and refusing to be moved. Physical force then?

When students covered their eyes with their clothing, police forced open their mouths and pepper-sprayed down their throats. Several of these students were hospitalized. Others are seriously injured. One of them, forty-five minutes after being pepper-sprayed down his throat, was still coughing up blood.

What about having their mouths forced open and it got into their lungs?

Anyone with asthma will suffer an extreme reaction to pepper spray. You have to be crazy to imply that processed, concentrated pepper extract is the same as eating peppers.

Show me proof of this. A blog post isn't gonna cut it. I could just as well say that a couple of protestors attempted to seize an officers weapon. I have no proof nor do you. But I wouldn't put that up for submission. Blogs are like A**holes...everyone has one.

The police are the government’s private army. Paid by us/you through your taxes, land rates, vehicle registration, pet registration, parking fines, ect ect ect.

Who cares what it was that was sprayed? Why get lost in the minutia? I know in our Prisons "we" now use chemicals so toxic you don't even want to touch the residue. Some occasionally die from allergic reactions. It's still called "Pepper Spray".

If it was WATER, reverse osmosis filtered WATER (this is Davis after all), I would still be pissed. That cop is a bully and a punk. If one of my kids were there I would want a piece of that punk...not for vengeance, just to put him out of action for a while. Every day in the hospital would be one less day he was able to abuse someone else.

Honestly though, this is all unnecessary...the UC system should have ordered a chemical toilet, fresh water station and ordered one of their rent a cops to stand by. They waste more money every second than that would have cost them. Hell they could have even had fresh donuts delivered to the campus rent-a-cop.

Authority hates free thinkers, authority hates dissent. Laws! More Laws! Interesting times we live in.

I have Asthma...have since I was 8, had to take 3 shots a week for 4 years and a battery of over 4000 different skin injections to ascertain allergies. ...went to the academy , was peppersprayed and tasered when it came time for that. I had the same reaction. Never had an asthmatic attack. Not everyone reacts the same way.

These individuals where attempting to make maryters of them selves. They where doing these actions to get attention, although they where breaking the very laws the supposedly protect.

YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING!

You use pepper spray if someone is acting violent, not if they are sitting there defenseless!

Are you insane?

or they could have moved off the path when told to - their choice, but with choice comes repercussions.

OR The police could have just slapped on the cuffs and escorted the protesters to the paddy wagon.

See nobody gets hurt, the mace was uncalled for and a blatant assault on non threatening bi standards. Are you a sociopath? Your logic is severely flawed.
