The crowd would have freaked regardless of what the police did. That's why people were recording on camcorders, phones and ipads. They want to make the police look bad and put it on the internet.

Thinking these protestors wanting to make a little noise is more important than the safety of the officers is ignorant.

They knew EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. This is the point you people are missing. They were warned. If they didn't want sprayed they could have simply got up and walked away.

Actually, the fact that it was being recorded would probably prevent the protesters from getting violent. If the police had just proceeded with their arrests without the excessive use of pepper spray (I mean, come on! He coated them twice!), the protesters would have just had footage of them yelling "Shame!" and watching the police take away the sitting people with no trouble.

Instead, we have this display of a police officer displaying his pepper spray, as if the warning was enough to make the protesters stop protesting. That's the point of a protest! If you gave up on your message every time you were threatened, then no one would ever get change!

That's the point. You assume that the guy probably had something else in his system, so I assume that you think all the protesters are dirty hippies.

Who's right, or are we both just looking like asses? It's time to grow up and realize that this is more than just something to squabble on the internet over.

Black Mamba venom? seriously? That is the comparison you are going to draw? Educate yourself on the amount of Cap that has to be ingested before it even remotely becomees lethal. You drama queens can have this thread.

The photograph speaks volumes.
The Police officer is not being responsible or has not been trained properly.

Police training in Australia is very specific - the photograph at the beginning of this post would be an excellent training tool - this is what you NEVER do.

Let's separate the offences - the people may have been demonstrating but they do not appear to be a threat to people or property. Legal application of an offence as to why and what they were doing is only one dimension.

If I were one of the people being sprayed I would attend a Police station and press charges against the officer.
Don't know what the laws are in America but in Australia when an officer acts beyond what they are trained to do (which is led by legality) the public can take action. I have seen it and I have seen the citizen win.

The citizens who have been assaulted (as in this thread) at the Occupy locations need to know that the Police are not above the law. Might be tricky but when every single person who has been assaulted fronts up to have the officer/s charged - might make a difference. Fight the powers that be with their own laws.

Much Peace...

www.earthfirstjournal.org... precdent has been set in california allready the direct application of peper spray to the eyes to non violent protestors has allready be decided to be a form of torture and excessive force in california allready (humbolt cops and those protestors who had peper spray applied to there eyes with q tips while seated) so the legal precedent is on the books to get the cops that did this

Actually my "assumption" is based on knowledge of the substance and unless this individual opened his mouth up and ingested half of the bottle it is nonsense.

For those with asthma, taking other drugs, or subject to restraining techniques which restrict the breathing passages, there is a risk of death. The Los Angeles Times has reported at least 61 deaths associated with police use of pepper spray since 1990 in the USA.[8] The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) documented 27 people in police custody who died after exposure to pepper spray in California since 1993.[4][9][10] However, the ACLU report counts any death occurring within hours of exposure to pepper spray. In all 27 cases, the coroners' report listed other factors as the primary cause of death, though in some cases the use of pepper spray may have been a contributing factor.

Did you notice how they didn't run around chasing protestors? The people watching didn't get directly sprayed? They wanted these people off the sidewalk. You can protest all you want but once you cross the line from peacefully protesting and breaking the law you are just asking for it.

If this was Syria:

1. Machine gun everyone.
2. Front end loader the bodies into a dump truck.
3. Firehose wash down the area.
4. Open for business as usual.

To be honest it hasn't even started yet, both university and mass protests,

Those students big hug as such,

I am worried many do not realise the depths the MIC (Military Industrial Complex) have and will go:

History proves what line is drawn,

Im so afraid yesterday will be you tubes of today very soon:

This is what happened in US universities by the police in the Iran (im sorry Vietnam) war:

What does it take to go from the OPE vid to this?

Is it an order?

An build up of frustration?

You think pepper spray is bad?

An Fear?

At the MOMENT the cops in OWS and here seem like cuddly toys?

Guys this is getting very REAL,

I love history, current affairs,

Spent too long reading in my life lol.

Everyone support their "hopes" "Dreams" "Wishes" "Intentions" whatever, be aware though imho things very soon will turn very REAL,
like above, be sure of what you stand for before you do, thats all!, if your not sure be aware of that.

PS to the OWS is an ploy get out now! croud etc....

REALLY????????????????????????????????????

Kind Regards,

Elf

Yeah, take one line from my entire post and use it out of context. You're moronic to think it's immoral.

How sad.
Moronic or not, I will do everything in my power to protect peaceful people from aggressive thugs. I have nothing in common with those students. I have never protested anything...ever.
Still, I will not let that flimsy excuse "it's the law" condone unnecessary violence. Your "Laws" mean nothing to me in this context. Sell that crap to someone else.

Your arguement was based on these ingredients being natural substances, therefore IMPLYING that because it's a natural substance, it's okay to spray in peoples faces.

I then demonstrated how this is a very poor arguement to make. You are now retreating from the thread because of this.

That is reportedly what happened, essentially. It was sprayed directly into his mouth.

There's an article about it, though not specifically related to the blood coughing guy.

For some reason whenever I see cops in riot gear. They always remind me of the Combines in Half Life. I swear everyday I start to fear we are one day closer to that reality.

Wow! I guess there's no level of minimum force for misdemeanors then? Why should these people be treated like violent scum when they are SITTING?
