They are protesting for their future. That's what.

Go read some other threads about the Occupy movement, or just do a quick search in Google to see exactly what is going on.

Do some research before you start commenting on stuff. Because when you don't, you look silly and stupid.

Thanks.

When the people causing a distrubance outweighs the number of police officers there the police have every right to make sure the main ones are put out of commission before they are subdued. This gives the police the upper hand so they will not get hurt.

If they simply went to arrest one and then got surrounded and beaten, they would have said "man we should have pepper sprayed them first". It's better safe than sorry so they will make it home another day.

When the protestors are verbally warned that they were going to use the pepper spray and then remained there they knew what the consequences would be.

Do you notice how no one else was directly sprayed? They wanted the ones being "martyrs" to move. They refused. They got what they deserved. Should be end of story but doubtful to the people who think this movement is above the law.

It was for firing rubber bullets or small tear gas bullets. Guns used elsewhere are far more dangerous, so the painball guns are considered the "safe" version. It might also just be because their police department doesn't want to pay for the more expensive and deadly version.

I am going to refute that the cause of this idiot vomiting blood for a half hour was pepper spray. It is either a fabrication or the result of other things that were in his system. This is the kind of crap I am talking about. The active ingredient in PS is also used in pain-reliving creams and found in ALL hot peppers. It is a natural substance.

No, the motto is correct, you just misinterpret it.

To protect and serve.
Protect political and corporate interests, and serve as in "YOU JUST GOT SERVED"!

It was a pleasure watching these cops back out of that situation all tuck tailed cowering away though.

In my opinion, it was a stupid and dangerous move on the part of the police. Notice the way that the entire crowd freaked? There had to be a leader among them who controlled their mentality and allowed them to resist attacking the police. Pepper spraying those people was inciting the violence of the protesters, and those police got lucky.

To act as if what they did was right and safe in any way is ignorant. These police were prepared to fight.

Pepper balls are not tear gas. Also rubber bullets are fired mainly from guns without c02 containers.

The "defendants" were LEO's, Lewis and Philip.

Viewing the facts in the light most favorable to the protestors, we conclude that Philip and Lewis are not entitled to qualified immunity because the use of pepper spray on the protestors' eyes and faces was plainly in excess of the force necessary under the circumstances, and no reasonable officer could have concluded otherwise.

CONCLUSION

For the foregoing reasons, we reverse the district court's grant of summary judgment for Lewis and Philip and remand this case for further proceedings consistent with this opinion and with our prior decision to reverse the district court's entry of judgment as a matter of law on behalf of Humboldt County, the City of Eureka, and their respective police departments.

That's a nice assumption to make. I assume you think that all the protesters are just dirty hippies? The movement is made up of all ages, races, and sexes. Get over yourself.

The crowd would have freaked regardless of what the police did. That's why people were recording on camcorders, phones and ipads. They want to make the police look bad and put it on the internet.

Thinking these protestors wanting to make a little noise is more important than the safety of the officers is ignorant.

They knew EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. This is the point you people are missing. They were warned. If they didn't want sprayed they could have simply got up and walked away.

Allright, Ill be honest. I have read the OWS manifesto and know what it is about, I just want to see what others have to say about this...If you were just to see that clip in the op you would have no idea what this was about, if someone said it happened because of the occupy wall street movement that would not answer anything , those kids were in California.....wrong coast...yes I know I am sounding stupid here, but I am playing ignorant to the movement...just want some others to clarify somethings, namely what are these kids complaining about? And is sitting going to do anything? # grab an axe and get choppin, whoo whoo

Their was only three times in history that non-violent protest led to change.
The womans movement and movements by MLK & Ghandi, these movements had the blessing of the NWO
and Gloabalist goals. The OWS has no such blessings not yet anyway, until they conform to NWO norms.
I think the Globalist agenda is the only way this world will survive,no matter how you may feel about the NWO,
It has been here for over thirty years now.Look around you Global connectivity has been here for some time now,it is
the natural progression of things.Don't fear the future.Centralized government is what is needed for good or for worst.
