From a military point of view, it's ACTUALLY a good move. It sets up a better defensive posture for Australia which is pretty far away from the rest of their allies. It also gives nato nations a second ready position for the defense of Hong Kong, which the Chinese WILL invade at some point.

China has developed some nasty missiles that can track and kill an aircraft carrier, which is currently Hong Kong's ONLY defensive posture. Subs don't really have a lot of firepower (compared to an aircraft carrier) unless things go nuclear.

Australia is resource rich and China is looking for more resources.

All in all, I think it's a good move... I'm just SHOCKED that Obama would actually MAKE a good move militarilly...

BTW, the island nations north of Australia are on the verge of civil war due to Muslim terrorists...just sayin'...

I believed that more Australians support the move by President Obama gesture of allied friendship by shifting help there, in the wake of the China CCP gov's declaration that it owns the entire portion of seas in the eastern hemisphere, and had not rule out any military option should any ship strays into that area, harming trade and safety of ships, our very lifelines around the world.

Still, it is a matter of choice. Australia is a sovereign nation. If it feels uptight about it, the minority are free to voice out and show real alternatives, not Neville Chamberlin's foolishness though, or pre '39 Polish avarice, to the CCP gov's rising ambitions.

I am sure the Marines are more than happy to return stateside, back to their loved ones, even though if asked to stay, they will honour their pledge to allies as by tradition of the Marines as their courageous fathers did, under McArthur's leadership to free all asians including australians back in '45.

With a ready detachment on that part of the seas, it will be faster and quicker to respond for help, rather than to wait for SHTF and then cry repeatedly on the radio for assistance, which will take weeks if not months. Marines are not ordinary soldiers, as proven by their resourcefulness, tenacity, courage and much more over their illustrious history.

Even though China and India have nearly 40% of the Earth's total human population I think that is mainly because they are old civilizations.

Stop being pissed at china. Their government is continously backstabbing its own populace ever since the fall of communism. Cheap labor is a priceless commodity in todays global enviroment. If the chinesse were serious about imperialism they would boost their corporate structure and raise wages to the point were their population would breath a sigh of relief.

Instead they are sold out to the royal families of europe, just like the USA! Who do you think owns a majority of most multinational corporations?

Military might is the last thing china, russia, india, malaysia, taiwan, korea, iran, etc...should be thinking about. They are light years behind america. America could send ANY country back to the stone age by pressing a few buttons from norad.

This move by POTUS is all planned by the CFR. I think very few things he does on his own, except maybe visit 57 States. You know the New World Order has it all planned out and on their schedule. The Tea Party threw a bit of a wrench in POTUS' Socialist Utopia, which the CFR Power Elite has allowed him to continue to move forward to some degree, but the more conservative Tea Party started demanding the Stealth Progressives in the RNC to shape up or ship out.
