Lets see you get the number one fighting force in the world to protect you from China. If you only knew what was going down in the real world you would understand this is a mutual decision. Nothing is forced upon your country.

It is with mutual respect that these forces are deploying.

And yes strenthening ties to other allied nations is good. Without that sort of stuff you become isolated like North Korea.

Australia is actually considered very secured and protected by the fact we have thousands of kilometres of vast uninhabited coastline. The stalemate is here. I would agree zero guns around the world. But that is not the way it is. To say we are wimps to carry a gun is complete nonsense.. I do carry, I have taken a life with the very gun I carry. ( See the thread). I am not proud of that, but I would not be here now if not for it. We all can't be Aussie tough guys and duke it out to save our selves or our familys.

So if your visiting the states and your standing next to me on the street and some feces breaks out that involves firearms,and YOU are involved and are about to get your life taken by a thug, with a gun..... Would you want me to use my 2nd Amendment right to save your arse? Because I would irregardless if you wanted me to or not. No matter where your from. This thread isnt about all this.

Err, I actually object strongly to this notion. The US wants troops here in order to facilitate closer viewing of the China situation, and to allow for quick deployment if and when the proverbial faeces hits the spinning blades. This is purely for the benefit of the US, although they spin it like it's for 'our' protection. We've never needed it before, we don't need it now - our troops are some of the best trained in the world and we don't go picking fights with everybody.

We should pay for it? That is, quite frankly, arrogant and insulting.

Yes, in the States I would not feel safe knowing everyone was a potential gun owner and wanted to kill me for the change in my pocket. I would probably hire some big bloke to tail me with an Uzi or something.

Don't worry mate, we are not nearly as helpless as others try to make us appear. There are only 26-odd million of us that live on a continent the size of the entire US, leaving lots and lots of space for people to get lost and for us to manoeuvre and wipe them out (eg: the Japanese attempted invasion of Australia back in WW2). Our cities are spaced far enough apart and our country so isolated that it is nearly impossible to get anywhere near us by land or by sea without us knowing about it well in advance.

We don't swallow the fear pill here in Australia like many other countries do. If China wants to invade us, then we are screwed whether or not you have troops stationed in our country or not. That's if they don't get completely lost in the thousands upon thousands of square kilometres of nothingness and outback that we have to offer any potential invading entities.
