I'm curious as to what the OP believes the outcome will be if it is banned?
Because I'm pretty sure that nothing good at all will come of it. You can ban alcohol all you want but it won't cease to exist and it won't stop people from consuming it. So if it doesn't stop people from creating and consuming it, what exactly is the point of a ban? To create new laws that will cause more people to be sent to already overflowing jails?

War kills way more innocent people than alcohol ever has.

I agree that alcohol is the single worst thing on this planet right now...however if you take it away the weak will move onto something else to harm themselves.

That is also the theory of the majority of people. It's pretty blatant as to why it isn't illegal, and you've pretty much averagely summed it up.

Sorry in all my ramblings I forgot to mention I think it should be ILLEGAL, sorry for the mistake

Yeah that ain't gonna work mate, rember the prohibition days?
You really want that crap back, now?
Then it was pistols, clubs and tommy guns. now they use freaking rocket launchers!

No making things like alcohol and drugs illigal, just makes it easier for criminals to get a monopoly on it.
Legalise it and the government can atleast try to control the distribution and quality of it.

I don't remember prohibition days but I do believe that if alcohol was illegal, it would only make problems worse.

People tend to over-do something when they know it's taboo.

And anyway, why is it anyone's job to be responsible for the alcoholic? The alcoholic or drug addict or over-eater should be responsible for his or herself and if they are not... too bad! It's as bad a school trying to act like a parent because parent won't act like a parent.

If you banned it there would be Occupy liquor store.A drunk mans speech is a sober mans thoughts. It is the person or people who cant deal with their lives. They were not taught or since we are not perfect some have mental problems that need alcohol or drugs or bad childhoods doesnt help either.Everyone is different but we cant be treated as children either and having a blanked ban doesnt work.If a drunk driver killed someone thats sad what about the other drivers or accidents happen,It is not the drink things happen.unforeseen occurences befall us all.You want something to blame so it is easy to pick on alcohol when you know deep down it wont solve the problem.

Like it or not alcohol is a legal drug while other widgets are banned for personal consumption. If we are to be a free society the banning of widgets in general is wrong. That said, I understand why some widgets are banned however, this drives and illegal market and someone will always be willing to risk selling it. Even in Iran where it is a death sentence to sell widgets....

so, deal with it .... help those you can and who want the help .. otherwise realize no matter how much we try we can not keep someone from doing what they want .... no matter what the price...

It is ridiculous to presume that one can summarily ban a substance which has been known to mankind sine the beginning of human history. Indigenous peoples have concocted fermented beverages since the dawn of time. Fermentation is a natural process that even animals are affected by. Ever hear of bears "drunk" after consuming copious amounts of berries? Some food stuffs naturally ferment. In fact, without fermentation there can be no bread, for example. Alcohol is there and will be consumed. You can NOT prohibit it any more than you can prohibit air or water. Zymology is part of the natural order of things and can NOT be stopped by rule of law.
If we really want to make our world better, we need to quit transferring guilt from ourselves by anthropomorphizing things like alcohol and guns to make THEM the evil (or stupid) one and leaving our own dumb asses the victim of their wickedness.
I often wonder if we will EVER grow up (as a species) and learn to take responsibility for our own actions. If we ever do, the world will finally be that better place we all want.

I agree with this thread 100%. I am thinking you have a loved one who is a alcoholic? I have been married 24 years, my husband is a alcoholic. He HAD a good job, until fenbruary fo this year we had been living okish, you know makin it. After the years and years of some days just one or two drinks to days he began by noon his abuse of this substance has altered his mindset to where he is a total arssss. Know that he is not working he is slowly getting more and more arsss and he cant fidn another job. Ya it will ultimately be the demise of our marriage but, for some reason this substance has control over him and your right this lethal thing is legal how? why? good luck to you, its a long and hard road to be the sober one.

We tried it your way once: Prohibition basically INVENTED organized crime. So -- since people are people, and people have been dodging prohibition literally since the Garden of Eden, I'm going to go ahead and call your idea for what it is: Horse manure.

So what your saying, is the us gov is the organized crime of today runnig a HUGE money making scheme with their controlled poison. I agree.

And the US Government was running an even BIGGER money making scheme when they instituted the Volstead Act...Prohibition does not work...The Kennedy Family accumulated nearly all their wealth and power via bootlegging...Many other politicians did also...Ken Burns and Lynn Novick produced a documentary on this very subject...

www.pbs.org...

It is an excellent expose of the subject...please watch it if you can...

...PROHIBITION is a three-part, five-and-a-half-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick that tells the story of the rise, rule, and fall of the Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the entire era it encompassed.

Prohibition was intended to improve, even to ennoble, the lives of all Americans, to protect individuals, families, and society at large from the devastating effects of alcohol abuse. But the enshrining of a faith-driven moral code in the Constitution paradoxically caused millions of Americans to rethink their definition of morality.
