But yeah, let's outlaw alcohol... then we can start a black market and build some organized crime empires based on alcohol vice... Oh... wait... we did that already.

Oh well, what the hell. If the "War on Drugs" can generate about 1 Trillion in cash into the economy of the U.S. every year, why not booze, right? I mean, so long as you don't piss of The Mob, or a drug cartel, what is there to fear?

Black bag agencies can get involved in the illegal alcohol trade, and make even MORE money than they have with various drug smuggling ops.

Yeah... great idea... if you love criminal syndicates.

why not? whats a black market hurt? Organized crime, this aint the the 1930;s
Tell me why it would be bad? Plus there would be almost no underage drinking if it were too hard to get.

Well unfortunately too many people cant use alcohol within the limits of the law, therefore I believe that it should be banned. Too many lives, I said LIVES are affected by it. So are you saying that for the pleasure of many, some should suffer?

Too many lives are affected by life itself...

You need to step back and let the world turn.... Or else youre poking holes in the air, which only hinders things..

You really must have it in for alcohol, to not see the hypocrisy in what you suggest.

If it wasn't alcohol it would be something else...some people are drinkin mouthwash for God's sake! Or sniffin gasoline

Everything in moderation and those who step over get the law thrown at them. Problem is the law is too lenient towards the heavy constantly driving guy and want to throw the book at casual drinkers...dumb!

Having been both a bartender and doorman for a few years ... I learned to really dislike drunk people.

They're loud, annoying, often inappropriate, frequently violent and aggressive, and in general, distasteful.

THAT IS WHY THEY GO TO BARS!!!!

And so the annoying miscreants are away from the rest of us.

Blimey, its like saying "I was a priest once, and my god, the people who go to church are the most annoying religious people you'll meet.. All they do is talk about god."

Work at a bar == meet loads of drunks. Ergo, drunks are invading your bar.. WTH?

Ugh this is a rollercoaster of madness...

I do believe alcohol is good in moderation however it will lead to much pain and suffering in every way imaginable for not only you but those who love you...

How many substances can basically posses you mind body and soul, and leave you with no memory of uncharacteristic behavior with incredibly shameful stories for your friends to remind you of later?

How many other substances rob as many children of their parents from driving under the influence? Or Parents of their children?

How many other substances can destroy so many parts of your body?

I could go on and on...

But if you ban it many other problems would arise the rebirth of moon shine would be one then you would see the real problems increase again as it did in the past... " insert banjo music from deliverance here "

I agree with your post but in my case I drank liquor for 40 yrs, never been to a program to help me stop/nor any high religious did I pray to for help. One night after drinking a fifth of tequila, I woke up the next morning and just quit. I don't know why it went so smooth but it's been 3 yrs and never looked back.

I agree with everything you said except for making it illegal. As soon as you do that you create a Black Market (with anything - plenty of examples around that we can't mention!). When you create a Black Market even worse stuff happens.

So why not make smack bars legal and sell it at cornerstores. good idea.

Nothing wrong with that idea at all.. In fact, it would save lives and also incorporate a modicum of legislation on behalf of the bar in order to ensure the smack bar itself was selling pure smack and not shonky corner quality gear.

You are spot on with that idea.

Save lives, and help people.. and hey, for the actual price you'd pay for legislated smack, you'd not have to beat up a granny to steal her handbag - it's cheap as chips when made medically. You do know it is the illegality of it that causes 99% of the crime, or .. I'm not sure what you think you think all drunks run over kids...

but well done on the first post I agree with !

You should look into Carrie Nation and her ax. You really shouldve researched at least a LITTLE before you posted.

What you said has already been said, done, tried, passed, changed and gone back again. The reasons were clear. Demand. Its a part of American 20th Century history.

You wouldnt have even had to make a post......Prohibitions been done. It diid not work.

And now you're back in the ridiculous basket.

WTH?

You yourself wanted to keep it logical, and here you are strawmanning the entire topic now.

"Hey you drunks, you want alcohol to remain legal? Ha why dont we just give anthrax to babies on the way, you scoundrels!!"

Just like there's no underage use of illicit drugs today, and nobody here ever looked at a porno mag until they were old enough to buy one?

Organized crime is alive and well. They're called "gangs" and "cartels" today, instead of "the mob," but the idea is the same.

Ya and the use of those porno mags NEVER killed or even HURT anyone. And if there are gangs anyway today, wont they already be here anyways if it were prohibited again?

I used to feel the same way. But, 4 years alcohol free and my life has gotten worse by the day. So I figured I would go ahead and hit the bottle. If it gets worse, ehh...

For alot of people, alcohol seems to be the way to deal with a situation that got bad on its own. I despised alcohol and drugs up until about 2 days ago when I couldn't take it no more. Now, I write this while I sip a forty and a bottle of wine. Cheers!

....Now please, save your immature defenses of alcohol I understand that its fun and all and alot of people can handle themselves, however, its very deadly and has horribly destructive consequences on every level of society. From the homeless man on the corner, to the high level exec who kills someone in an auto accident, to the middle class man that beats his wife and kids all because of this legal TAXABLE poison. ....

I do not appreciate being pigeon-holed into your preconceptions. I've been drinking for 20+ years, not one DUI, not one spousal or child abuse incident, no problems here and none among my circle of friends either.

I assure you that for every DUI, abuse or death at the hands of alcohol, there are thousands of people who never have an incident and people who have incidents and are not under the influence.

The majority of the worst experiences I've ever had were alcohol-induced.
It used to be that hard liquor alone had a deleterious effect on my personality.
Nowadays, it's just several beers that cause me to engage in extremely self-destructive behavior, something which is very out of character for my sober self. I believe alcohol is inherently evil -- it is a toxin, a poison, death- in- a-bottle. Certainly, it's use does not make anyone stronger or wiser.

I like living in the land of the free. I hate to be told what I can and can't do. If you want to be controled like that maybe you should move to Iran. They have A spot for you there!!!

Look, I brew my own Beer and produce my own wine, so go ahead and ban it, it will not make a difference to me or many other people. Honestly, to dictate to others what they can and can't have is ridiculous.

You're right, some people make bad choices when drinking, we should bank alcohol! While we are at it, lets ban guns, because guns are used for bad things. Why stop there? I once saw a guy put on a funny hat and do a silly dance. While he was doing the silly dance he elbowed someone in the face. It was totally an accident, but if he would have never put on the funny hat, it never would have happened. Down with silly hats i say!

/sarcasm

Alcohol doesn't hurt people, people hurt people. People use alcohol to hurt others, and themselves, but it is their right as an adult in a free nation to make that choice for themselves. When used in moderation studies have shown that alchohol can actually be good for you. And before anyone asks, here is the Source.

I am all for DUI laws, and any other law against putting others in danger, but it's a matter of personal responsibility. If i want to relax with a cold one after work, ill be damned if someone is going to take that away from me.

A few points you may not be aware of as you seem confused that I'd pick or stay at such a job considering the sentiments I expressed.

To begin with, I was not there because I needed the job, or even the money. A friend of mine built and owned the place and needed people he could trust in certain positions. With the money involved.. can't say I blamed him. This is relevant in that I didn't care about the job itself, not having to do it, to be honest, would have been fine with me. I was doing a friend a favor.

The other issue you might have.. misunderstood.. is that this wasn't your local pub, but rather one of the larger clubs in the state. It's a completely different animal. I found it funny you used the word invading.. as that is exactly what happens. Like locusts. Especially when a national act is there. You know it's not about the niceties when the first thing you when you get there is spray wd40 on all the flat surfaces in the bathrooms so no powdery substances can be snorted off them.
As a bartender, it's all about volume. Tell me what you want and how many.. I'll tell you how much.. you give me the money.. I give you your beers / drinks... you leave the change as tip or you don't.. but get out of the way.. it's 10 deep. If you appear to be visibly intoxicated.. or become in anyway a problem .. you are cut.. and asked to leave.. forcibly if necessary. State law requires this, and the fines for not complying with that law are quite hefty.. and go to both the owner and the bartender.
As a bouncer you're also responsible to remove anyone who's visibly intoxicated. You also get the pleasure of breaking up any number fights and other assorted altercations between both men and women... both inside the club and out. Or hopefully, defusing them before they get that far.

What's not to love about these inebriated rascals? When I'm behind the bar, they always argue endlessly when they get cut, and might end up getting me fined. On the other side you risk physical injury and possible lawsuits.

Give it a try sometime, you might understand better why I felt about things as I did, If the reason they go to a bar is to act like idiots.. they should save themselves the cover charge.. and stay home.

As for your church analogy, yeah... no. I never went to church and had to wrestle a nun to the ground because she's decided the lying heathen whore next her needs a good smiting .Nor is pastor Jones defecating on the bathroom floor. We did have have a busload of church goers come and protest outside when the Girls Gone Wild tour stopped there.. the leader was even dressed like Moses... Now that I give it some thought.. maybe there are similarities.. I'll give you half credit on the analogy.

Peace.
