Orrin Hatch was very vocal about keeping the Bush tax breaks for the wealthy earlier this year...now he says the poor need to take more responsibility regarding funding BigGov. Sounds like the headline to me.

Orrin Hatch has lost his ever lovin' mind, IMO.

Oh yeah, I forgot that your righteous knowledge of economics trumps all.

I am the only one that presented any facts. All I am getting back are talking points and a long winded rebuttal to an argument I did not make. If you question my knowledge then you need to dispute my facts.
edit on 8-7-2011 by Kitilani because: (no reason given)

That is your 'go to' statement. "I was the only who presented facts".
Sorry, but yours is not the all knowing, all correct facts.

HATCH: Well, Bastiat, the great economist of the past said, the place where you’ve got to get revenues has to come from the middle class.

So, yeah, we have an unbalanced tax code that we’ve got to change.

Your interpretation is more than welcome.

The QUOTE is wrong. Like I said, the title is misleading.

That I agree with. He should have been bounced out of office many moons ago.

What? Fox News has been caught lying and stretching the truth plenty of times, show me proof of the Huff Post doing this.

It's a sad world we live in. In an ideal world, idiots like Orrin Hatch would be lined up against the wall and shot, and good riddance to the fool.

Really???
Go do your homework, there are plenty of instances out there, unless you enjoy the view from below the sand.

I dont have to do my homework, I dont use MSM for news, but if you dig deep enough, you'll find that almost every MSM has twisted reality for their own gain, but Fox is known for blatantly lying,

Because a modern society is different from the old days when people lived off the earth and were able to hunt, fish, live off the land and there weren’t huge industrial and inter-connected infrastructures in cities and suburbs where most people now live in. Therefore the society is more inter-dependent than ever because of the modern industrialized structure of the society. That means that what people do more affects others. If you said to the people in the supermarket that we will no longer check your food, they would abuse that freedom and possibly poison the neighborhood.

A society and or nation is a social pact between its citizens, the microcosms, and the whole nation, the macrocosm. Often the microcosms interests can conflict with the interests of the macrocosm, such as when a religious person might want to refuse their child medical care because of some religious belief. Does the law step in and save the child or should people be allowed to kill their children because they believe God will heal them. Of course there are more reasonable tenets in people’s religious beliefs that the society could accommodate.

There are issues in any political ideology that have merit, IMO, such as the legalization of drugs, so on a lot of issues I agree with some of the libertarians particularly Ron Pauls foreign policy. But these issues in a modern society I think should be decided with moderation and balance, not dogma from some ideology. But when it comes to making sure the people in the society at least aren’t starving to death and have the opportunity at a middle class lifestyle and can get a job, and need bridges, highways, crime prevention, firehouses, and other things a freely elected government should be responsible for, we should be able to do.

I do not hold Fox News higher then any other source. But to spin your take that Fox is worse then the other is naive.
Just because they slant the opposite way that you do, doesn't give them less merit. Nor more merit to CNN or Huffington Post.

It apparently didn't occur to him that if 51% pay no taxes, it means that 51% of households are below the minimum taxable income level.

If you are married and filing jointly, the lowest federal tax bracket, 10 percent, applies to you if your taxable income is between $0 and $16,700. The standard deduction for married taxpayers filing jointly is $11,400, so your gross income must be between $11,400 and $28,100 to be in this tax bracket. If you have other deductions, your income may be higher and still qualify for this bracket.

That says to me that 51% of American households earn $28,000/year or less.

It's the quality of the ideas he is 'throwing out there' that are objectionable. I could put up with it if they were his ideas, fools can be safely tolerated in small numbers although I wouldn't give them a platform from which to drivel.

Having said that, I've followed this particular idiot quite carefully enough to know that everything he says is scripted, which in my mind makes him a traitor rather than mentally deficient.

Finally, the debt in object is fictitious: we do not owe a penny of it, yet we are being dispossessed to pay for it. To come along and suggest the less fortunate should pay more is to kick those who are down, and is also to quite frankly 'take the piss'.

I say shoot a few of the bastards and the others will learn to behave.

You have to laugh really.

They export your job, foreclose your home and raid your savings. What does that make you? Poor right?

Now shut the hell up and 'do more' to pay for the fictitious debt created by illegal wars which you never supported and in which you probably lost a familly member, whilst those responsible for your dispossession live grandiose lifestyles funded by stealing evrything you ever had.

You really have to be a complete moron to suggest something like that. I reckon rope and lampposts would go a long way in curing such mental delusions, I really do....

Best way to help fix the national debt, CUT THE MILITARY SPENDING....Take a look at what we spend and then look at the next closest military budget....If we spent what China spends imagine what we could do with the other $550 billion?
2009 figures...The United States military budget his increased each year, but I'm showing figures from 2009 which i found easy...
List of countries by military expenditures...
1. USA- $687 billion
2. China- $114 billion
3. France- $61 billion
4. UK- $57 billion
5. Russia- $52 billion
6. Japan- $51 billion
7. Germany- $47 billion
8. Saudi Arabia- $43 billion
9. Italy- $38 billion
10. India- $34 billion

If you look at the whole list and start adding you will see that the United States spends more in one year than the next 22 countries combined (2-23)....Why are we spending so much on our military? This is where we need to trim the fat at, we need to stop being the WORLD POLICE and we need to handle our own issues back home....

Title of this thread reads - "Orrin Hatch: The 'Poor' Should Do More To Shrink Debt, Not The Rich"

What he actually says in the video - "The poor need jobs! And they also need to share some of the responsibility."

Not sure if you are aware of this or not OP. There are millions of Americans who live like leaches off of the backs of hard working middle class Americans. I am talking about welfare. Welfare is a good thing until bad people take advantage of it.

I think the debt should be balanced on the backs of the poor elderly and disabled. It is these peoples fault we are in such a mess and should therefor take the biggest financial burden. Rich people are used to their tax breaks and work a lot harder than the elderly and disabled.

Rich people also control the money markets, and therefore have access to data un-seen by most other people.

They are responsible for our dollars worth and the creation and lay off of jobs from the companies they control.

When they make a financial mistake who do you think pays for it,.....the workers....they get Laid off for somebody else's mistake.

How is that fair?

Or maybe it's the gov's fault for not spending the tax money properly.

Instead of 7,000 black projects , how about some housing and medical benefits....

Which would only cost about 1/100 of what they spend on the military each year.

We spend 20 billions or million dollars a year ( forget which one ) just air conditioning our troops....

Think about how many injuries or sickness's that could help treat, or how many small 1,000 squarefoot homes it could build.

Yea those are small, but would still help. Some help it better than no help...

The rich help themselves to whatever they please..

Weather you agree or disagree with someone, a sentiment like this is unacceptable in any free society. I sincerely hope this member is kidding. Either way, with the advocating of violence against someone for voicing their opinion, I see this comment being removed for violation of ATS terms very quickly. To this member, I would strongly suggest some introspect as to why you are so angry to advocate this type of violence against a man even the most liberal members of Congress agree is a very nice and caring man.
