However, I AM surprised no one, in this entire thread, has mentioned one of the most obvious explanations for what's going on:
Those who are spreading the lies about ATS collaboration with government disinformation, intelligence, and counter-intelligence operations/agencies are paid government disinfo agents spreading lies about the Internet's most-popular and information-dense resource on conspiracies and government malfeasance in an effort to truth-seekers away.

My guess is that would be more likely agents working for agencies of organised religion who might do that. Sceptical enquiry is a massive threat to them.

You know what, I had never even once thought of that as a possibility. You may very well be correct...

Is the whole premise of this intent on providing clarity to the situation and accusations or to quench a personal fire?
I dont see it ending, there will always be someone, either unconvinced or newly sure that 'the site' is run or populated with the list of characters provided.

The integrity of ATS its staff and members shouldnt be consumed by the little or no contribution of content provided by persistant, consistant paranoia.

I've looked at your action history, and you have a strong tendency to want to toss around insults and off-topic ridicule in "the heat of battle."

We've also made it clear that 9/11 topics will be more closely moderated because of the problems we've had in the forum. Problems with, to be very forthright, have come primarily from "9/11 Truthers" unable to understand the concept of social graces and civility.

I think maybe you may have a bit of tunnel vision. Sometimes people get so focused on something (running ATS), and deal with so much information that they take their eye off the ball. I don't blame you at all and it's understandable. But sometimes when people are so enamored in a situation or project that they start to miss some details along the way, or lose perspective that maybe only an outsider would see.

For example, do a search online for "US Government spreads propaganda online" & you'll see what i mean. Or copy paste this link (sorry i don't know how to insert the link)
www.dailymail.co.uk...

I started reading ats in 2005 as a casual reader. I kept coming around because I liked most of the people and the topics. Years later i decided to register and join in. The place has truly been on a down hill slide since with the racists, shills, disinfo, haters, wannabe hackers....you name it. Mainly, it's been overrun by haters. I miss the earlier years despite whatever issues were going on then. But it has gotten worse, and sometimes i wonder why. I myself never thought ats as cointelpro, and if i did i wouldn't have registered.

My quick 2 cents on all of this.

1) This is a PRIVATE forum. We (the members) don't have a "right" to be here. If we behave, we are "welcome" to post, and comment. If not, the OWNERS have the RIGHT to ban us. I know this is difficult for people who subscribe to wealth redistribution and the likes to grasp, but this is not YOUR site. It's someone else's.

2) I have made posts knowing full well I would get someone spun up. Yes, this could be considered "trolling", but I rarely have trolled for the sake of trolling, with the exception of one thread.

3) If you don't like the way things run, nobody has a gun to your head to stay. However, your input will indeed be missed, even if it's considered absurd by the majority.

4) As the OP (Owner) stated earlier, this is not a Democracy. Most forums are NOT. Get used to it. If you have a problem with the forum, once again, you are free to leave.

5) Respect. I have had a few headed debates with other members, but at the end, if they were respectful and on topic, I would send them a PM and thank them for the debate. Let's not make things personal. Have respect, fight for your cause, but keep it about the topic, not the user.

6) The rules are the rules. I moderate another high-traffic site, and the nature of the work we do often times leads to those who are ignorant calling us "racist". We're not. And, when members sign up with racial oriented usernames, or make any post that could be interpreted as racist, we make a decision as a group to warn or ban the member. It's not a single "jack boot" moderator, it's what's best for the site and the mission. ATS is no different. The mods do NOT get paid. They spend most of their time dealing with whining, and noobs who can't find a button. It can be frustrating, especially when you step back and realize "Damn, I have to put up with this for free?" Then, they realize they're doing a good job, even if they don't get told it very often.

ATS has been around for a LONG time. A lot of members who scream the loudest are sometimes the newest. Rather than jumping off the edge of a cliff, take a deep breath, relax, and realize you are on the internet, and NONE of this interaction really matters much in the real world. You still have a mortgage, you still may have a car payment, and you probably have a job. This site is ENTERTAINMENT and INFORMATION. Nothing more, nothing less. The added benefit is that we are privileged and encouraged to share our thoughts in real time.
Try that with the 5 o'clock news on TV!

People just need to relax, have fun, and enjoy.

I have never posted or replied to a post before. It is my hope all will be kind to my novice comments.

Over the past year, I have found this site informative, frightening and entertaining. I appreciate the efforts of the staff to provide original content that allows the reader to make their own decisions regarding any information presented. Overall, I would like to say, "Good Job!"

I am not certain if it already exists, but a glossary defining terms like shills, socks and more would be helpful for a greenhorn like myself and others. I appreciate all that is presented and thank everyone for their time.

if i may entertain the paranoid view for a moment...

so what if ats was a cointel psy op, home of countless shills and disinfo agents, so what then? what if all members paranoia and fears about ats were justified? so what i ask again?

some of you would leave and rather post in a site free of those mentioned above? where it would be just CT's taping each others in the back, entertaining even the most silly assumptions, if you remove the detractors what are you left with? illusions and disinfo still.

i for one, see value in detractors and disinfo. and if its present here its a good sign, means some here are close to something tangible. if there were no shills, misinfo and misdirections it would just mean we were all making a big deal out of non issues.
so silly they would not need to be attacked by purposed agents.

denying ignorance includes knowing what they dont want you know, what they ridicule, what they divert discussion from.

disinfo here is just a symptom of ats's overall quality.

You're absolutely right, I have a lot of strong tendencies. What I often forget is the fact that this is your yard, and we're using your ball, and for that I apologize. Having said that, I'm not sorry about feeling as strongly as I do about those that go to great lengths to distort and confuse the facts concerning this topic. I will endeavor to play nice in the future.

keep your friends close, and your purposed enemies even closer.

deny the ignorance of
not knowing what both sides of the coin think, speak and feel.

do not discriminate knowledge, knowing what is, is as important as knowing what is not.

and in the end of the day, this is just an internet site.

relax and have fun, paranoia is not a usefull stance for learning anything.

deny yourselves the ignorance of not knowing what ignorance is too.

agree... people give too much weight and gravitas to ATS. it is simply a well-thought out functional tool, that is used to express ones opinion, and/or coalesce information not readily available in the main stream media.

i believe that's why people come to this site. they know that there is valuable information here, you just have to seperate it from all the nonsense. and on rare occassions the "giggle-silly" factor of unabashed entertainment comes into play.

Indeed. Funny how Ive not once seen that suspicion expressed on the Board.

A significant majority.

Me for one!
This is from an old thread, way before becoming a moderator here:
www.abovetopsecret.com...
If you look around you'll find many such posts from me.

Other than there being masons on the board as both moderators and members, there is nothing masonic about ATS. Believe me, I would never surrender my religious beliefs for anything, including being a moderator here.

Anyone been here long enough to remember dragonrider? LOL (Please don't ban me)

If China has "Wu Mao" and "fenqing", the USA, a better equipped and more resourceful country will have its counterparts. But like SO says, so? It's not impossible to argue against a "Wu Mao", in fact, it's quite entertaining and allows you to 'flesh out' your arguments over time - perhaps bringing the audience to your side in even greater numbers.

The most important thing I learned from this thread (a reiteration of a theme that has resurfaced since as far back as I can remember), is that SO is a raging /b/tard and regular contributor of OC.

So what happens when sombody actually posts a top secret topic? The owners of this site have a moral obligation to stop information from getting into the hands of those bent on destroying western civilization, do they not? Of course the owners of this site have been contacted by the US government and a plan is in place to stop the distribution of top secret information. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not think logically. Go ahead and call me rude and insane, it only strengthens my resolve.

Maybe not rude and insane, but perhaps a little silly.

ATS is hardly the only place where information can be disseminated on the internet. There are millions of sites around the planet you can use to release information. Once something is out (as evidenced by Wikileaks), it's impossible to put it back.

ATS was never a place where above top secret info is released. It's a place where people discuss things that are already out there, or theories about things that might be out there.
