A star does produce its own light due to fusion. A brown dwarf however, is a failed star and is incapable of fusion, therefore it does not produce light. It would still be seen due to the fact that the composition of a brown dwarf is almost identical to Jupiter and reflect light the same way that Jupiter does.

as far as i can tell, there are no brown dwarf stars that you can see in our sky. correct ? they are all too faint and distant, so we've never actually experienced such a sighting?

and could perhaps the coincidences come down to something like this?

Currently the closest brown dwarf is 13 light-years away. Therefore, much like distant planets, they would appear extremely dim if visible at all. Infrared telescopes make it much easier to see these dim, distant objects. A brown dwarf in our own solar system would be extremely visible.

and it was searched for in 1800s

The existence of Nemesis is an extremely low possibility. The likelihood of it existing is so low that Matese doesn't even support the hypothesis anymore. Instead he supports the new Tyche hypothesis, which is no threat whatsoever if it exists.

i have an amazing life. : ) and regardless of any doomsday predictions, there are many survival measures and techniques that you can employ under many situations. and there is nothing "wrong" with knowing what they are.

The search for Planet X actually started in the late 1800s after the discovery of Neptune. Almost immediately after its discovery researchers noticed perturbations in its orbit. This lead to search throughout the early 1900s for another planet, which eventually lead to the discovery of Pluto in 1930. This didn't explain the perturbations, but as more data was gathered the perturbations became smaller until Voyager II's flyby of Neptune when they were completely explained away. Nemesis is based off of another hypothesis that appeared in the 1980s that suggested mass extinctions occurring on a regular basis. However, this was eventually found to be false. Matese has now suggested Tyche in order to explain the orbits of long-period comets, but most researchers disagree with his hypothesis.

actually planet x theory was tied to mass extinctions too : ) remember 3600 year orbit of planet x has been clung to for that reason

That is a modern claim by Nancy Lieder. Lowell's Planet X was never connected to any kind of mass extinction and certainly didn't have a 3600 year orbit. This claim is merely pseudoscience based on Sitchin's Nibiru combined with the legitimate search for Planet X.

i've done quite a bit of reading about the 1800s search for planet x, or whateve rthey called it at time, and mass extinctions was one part of it (not the driver of the theory, but an after thought) if i had quote i could share it

i know sitchin got theory going, but there were theories about a planet lurking outside solar system (beyond pluto) well before him

On the subject of brown dwarfs, have just come across an article that points to (possibly) the coldest star in the galaxy. a Brown dwarf at just 100 degrees Celsius. Only hot enough to boil a cup of tea.

Well..... I am not an astronomer or a scientist. I have been researching on internet, watching youtube video, reading alot of blogs and comments, and am truly amazed at how some people respond to the unknown.

I am wildly fascinated as the coincidence of alignments with Elenin have cause some severe seismic activity but not sure what all has contributed to it also. We are entering an alignment with the galactic center, we are entering an area in our galaxy that only happens every few thousand years. Ancient cultures have stories AROUND the world of another world (planet) in our galaxy. And astronemers have just now started learning how to find brown dwarfs and locating them with infrared. All i know is i have read about the poles shifting on almost every planet in uor solar system, ours has been slightly shifting over centuries and the speed has increased dramatically in the last decade. Our ice shelves our melting faster than scientist have imagined, and our sun is more active than it has in decades. I am not debunking anyones theories or suggesting that it's actually something going on. But in last few years ALOT of strange weather patterns have been evolving, like whats seems to be Hurricanes on land in the USA and tornadoes ripping through the USA worse then ever. Earthquake activity along the ring of fire and not to mention volcanic activity in more than just a few islands and countries.


I personally think there is something major going to happen and all the news talks about is Middle East riots, Civil Wars, and conflicts around the world that i believe the USA started and been fueling for over 50 years. The news barely covers worldwide phenomenon that is going and is more interested in broadcasting the Royal Wedding and USA shuttle launches. So, if there is to be any progress in discussions everyone needs to take in some of what people say and use it constructively and not make threads into means of calling people morons or idiots and simply put your own imput out there so people dont get offended.
