When will the International community respond to Israel's attacks on International shipping? They attacked the Turkish ships in International waters.
Cut off military support and they would be a better global citizen.

wo Iranian naval vessels withdrew a request Thursday to transit the Suez Canal after Israel expressed concerns over the plans, a senior canal official said.

The official said no reason was given for the decision to withdraw the application. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said it was not known if the vessels intended to transit the waterway at a later date.

The Suez Canal official identified the two vessels as the Alvand, a frigate, and the Kharq, a supply ship, and said they were en route to Syria. He said they were now in an area near the Saudi Red Sea port city of Jiddah.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Wednesday that Iran was about to send two naval vessels through the Suez Canal for the first time in years, calling it a "provocation."

Israel considers Iran an existential threat because of its disputed nuclear program, ballistic missile development, support for militants in the region and its threats to destroy Israel. While Israel has pressed for international sanctions to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, it has not taken the possibility of a military strike off the table.

Israeli Foreign Ministry officials could not immediately be reached for comment on Thursday.

Egypt's official MENA news agency quoted Ahmed al-Manakhly, a senior Suez Canal official, as denying that the waterway's management had received any requests by Iranian navy ships to transit the canal.

On Wednesday, U.S. State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley confirmed the presence of the two Iranian ships in the area of the canal but would not say whether that was considered provocative.

"There are two ships in the Red Sea," he said, "What their intention is, what their destination is, I can't say."

Vessels intending to transit the Suez Canal, which links the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, must give the waterway's authority at least 24-hour notice before entering the canal.

Only ships that don't meet safety requirements are banned from using the canal.

In the case of naval vessels, a clearance from the Egyptian defense and foreign ministries is required in advance, but is rarely withheld.

I hardly would call that backpedaling but you are entitled to your opinion. I do think it is good to point out how many times have the Israeli's made threats towards Iran. Furthermore how many times has Israel tried to convince the UN/USA to put more sanctions or to invade Iran. I would dare say that Israel has been pushing for an attack on Iran since the first Gulf War, but definitely since the second Gulf War.

What, for God's sake does the Blue on Blue attack on the USS Liberty have to do with this? Is this just more justification to hate Israel? I'm very much aware of the event, and I'm very much aware that the Liberty was out of place. It was supposed to be somewhere else, and in the middle of a shooting war, being in the wrong place is not good.

On the contrary I think this is very much a good point to show Israel's behavior. They knew it was a US ship they were firing on it has been reported time and time again. Yes the Israeli's covered it up and so did the US, but the fact remains they knew it was an allied ship and they still fired. There is a air force pilot from Israel who was court martialed after refusing to fire on the Liberty and he even came to testify in Washington about the attack and low and behold our Congress didn't want to hear a word of it. You spoke of being on the other side of friendly fire so I am assuming you served. Did you ever do any time with the Israeli military? I did and I can tell you that there is no real affection towards anyone. They are most certainly not all about how much they love America. In fact most of them are bitter that we wouldn't let them retaliate back in the first Gulf War.

I'm not arguing against Iran's navy and what-not being unable to pass anywhere in international waters, but we all know historically, Iran has never had any presence in the Med, as traditionally, Arabs all hate Persians, and vice-versa.

You previously referred to my leaving out the facts of threats as a way to skew the argument in my direction. I wanted to point out that this is a good way to skew the argument in your direction. The entire history of Israel has nothing to do with Iran at all.

I am not saying Israel hasn't had a rough run of things, nor am I saying that Israel doesn't have enemies. I suppose my biggest arguments are that Israel tends to create it's own chaos for reasons I have previously stated before. It was once said in a Tom Clancy novel "Everyone knew that one day Israel would finally fire on unarmed Palestinians and the world would see who the true aggressor was." I actually thought this had finally happened when they attacked the aid ship, but that one seemed to get swept under the rug pretty good as well. Funny how all the bad things Israel does seems to just evaporate.

I suppose at this point the argument is over as the ships have turned around and changed there mind. I do want to state that I wonder what the US would have done in this situation.

Lets play a Devil's advocate scenario here. The US was moving Warships into the waters of the Gulf of Oman and dock off Kuwait for a year long exercise. Being our current state of affairs with Iran they consider the movement of these ships to be a provocation. Do you think there would be any hesitation by the US military to move those ships anyway? For that matter do you think the US would even tolerate such language from Iran? I would venture to say that US response would be something along the lines of. These are International Waters and if you attempt to make any moves on our vessels it will be taken as an act of war.
