Israel may not have overtly stated they want to destroy either but they have made no secret of their feelings and hostility towards Iran and I think the state Palestine is in speaks for itself. Israel doesn't want peace in the Middle East despite their rhetoric to the contrary. If anyone wants destabilization in that region it's them because in the midst of people fighting their battles for them they can steal more land that doesn't belong to them and install puppet regimes that will do their bidding.

Personally. I think Israel has been ordered by the US to react hostile.
In 2012 the US is going to have elections. If Obama wants to win, he is going to have to do something drastic.
A war with Iran will distract the American population from thinking straight "as usual" because they are so loyal to their government.

UPDATE : Two Iranian naval vessels have submitted a request to transit the Suez Canal, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said Thursday.


Now it all depends on Egypt. Other reports say that Egypt will let them go through since Egypt and Iran are not at war.

This truly is my last post on this as it is completley pointless to argue with people who have no intention of seeing anything other then what they believe.

Agree this is big and getting back to the debate, this may be a rouse from Iran to deflect from their own internal demonstrations going on. Whether the rights and wrings of Israel / Iran, there have been demonstrations in Iran for government overthrow, with Egypt being cited in the chants [been following this on Al Jazeera]. Classic plot of any government is to create a crisis to bring the public back on side.

Wow seriously. What the heck are you thinking? Israel hypocrites and cry babys? Every nation in the region has wanted to or tried to take Israel out. Iran has stated publicly for the entire world to know that its goal is to remove Israel from the map. Are you really so lost in the BS to realize this is a nation that could very well be fighting for her very survival and the survival of her people?

My prediction is that Iran will back down at the last minute or they will lose two ship the Israeli Air Force. Israel will keep any ground war to a minimum offensive attack. In the air however, she will eat up anything the arabs throw at her. Palestine will be a wasteland because of Hamas , the PLO, civilian casualties will be high. Iran may just get nuked back to the stone age. Trust me folks, Israel will drop a nuke if she has to. The NYT will blame Israel, helen thomas will crawl out of the slime and mumble something almost coherently anti-semitic, and Obummer will assign a committee to search for possible resolutions to the crisis.

This is a scary situation but one Israel has seen coming for a very long time. They've kept their nuclear arsenal hidden for a reason. They know whats coming and they are ready for it. After WW 2 I don't think Israel will ever go quietly again.

The last news I have seen on this states

A major naval crisis was avoided when it was announced that a flotilla of ships of the Iranian Navy, the frigate Akvand and the supply ship Kharg would not, after all, transit through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean Sea for a visit to Syria.

Whether the passage through the Suez Canal was canceled at the insistence of the Egyptian government or whether the Iranians have taken the better part of valor is unknown at this time. Egypt has a peace treaty with Israel and somewhat chilly relations with Iran.

An unnamed canal official told the Associated Press no reason was given for the decision.

The official identified the two vessels as a frigate and a supply ship, and said they were en route to Syria. He said they were now in an area near the Red Sea port city of Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia
