no no, i think we are miscommunicating.

I am assuming there was an aircraft flying AS WELL AS a missile in the original video posted.

therefore, would passengers - say on flight USA808 - have seen a missile out of their window?

I've seen other jets from my own flights, so just wondering aloud.

Didn't everyone see that other aircraft in the video too?

Its been posted here ad nauseam.

So we have many non-government sources saying it was definitely a missile, and Government (now) saying it was a plane. My own eyes and the many non-government sources are right- it was a missile.

If you look at photos posted on trunews.com... You will see that the top photo shows the area closest to the ground. Well you will see the kinks in the vapor trail. That is caused by the surface winds and the winds aloft blowing at diffrent speeds. I have no doubt that it indeed a Missile or Rocket launch. I have seen plenty of them in my travels as a DOD Contractor for the Navy.

The question is who shot it.

If it was a plane what the hell took the Gov't so long to point that out?

I stand with my gut on this one. It was not a plane.

When you are looking at the FlightAware data, pay attention to what they use as a reference for those times. WHICH timezone. They tell you, on the site.

(In reality, we use UTC as a standard to prevent confusion. I haven't checked, the site might let you convert the times, and how they display).

ALSO< pay attention to the LAT/LONG. For reference, LAX Airport is at about 118'24" north by 33'56" west.

The times are Eastern Standard times, 5:00PM California time is 8:00PM Eastern time.

Aircraft are not tracked by radar all the way across the Pacific. I believe they provide occasional position reports when out of radar range.

Well... you could admit that you are wrong this time

I am sure the T&C allow that

Well, woogleuk,
If you watch the video you will see a missile. If you see a plane, identify the plane. Not based on what other people say the plane was, based upon what you can see or verify.
Credible sources have identified it as a missile. Would you like those credible sources?

skeptics have a boner for flightaware.com

Its funny to see this thread. I could take a picture of a rock, and post it on here as "KILLER ROCK ON LOOSE!" and they would try to tell me that its not a rock.

Planes do not shoot straight upwards:

sorry folks
the GOV may lie
but pics and evidence
does not

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/e489ae1e0d53.jpg[/atsimg]

rocket engines are waaayyy hotter than plane engines
and the heat signature from the rocket engine
is noticeable in the comparison.

It's a MISSILE !!!

Not sure what my friend, Weedwhacker would say, but since I have seen missile contrails (and even fired some of them), ICBM contrails and aircraft contrails (from many angles), IMHO, this is NOT an aircraft contrail.

"Spectral analysis"? From a compressed video screen shot?

"Heat source?" What are you talking about? You can't be serious.

You can't see a rocket either and no, I have seen all the "credible" stories.

I'll you let you folks carry on the debate, i'm sticking to aircraft until someone provides solid evidence to say otherwise.

G'night all, 1:45am here and i'm up for an 8 hour shift at work at 7:30am.

I'm a huge fan of Kaku but lately hes been a TV/media whore.....He's a very credible man who would never risk his image and credibility by taking a conspiracy theorists side.....So I dont think hes saying what he really wants to say...

That said, he has always appeared to me that he's not afraid of saying it like it is though. If he as a scientist thought this was a missile then I'd think he'd say so and the reasoning behind it.
Now, to find confirmation as to why the editor of Jane's thinks it a missile and if that quote is credible :

Contrails don't kink like that at 37,000 ft The winds at that altitude generaly move in the same direction.

Thoughts?

that's because it is going AWAY from
the camera. You are seeing the rocket
from behind. It is going out to sea,
not inbound.

I'm not sure. I think I'm going to sit on the fence for awhile.

2nd

*tosses a pillow*

Well its hard sitting on those fences... but it's even harder being on this side of the fence.

It is tough though, because the News media is playing the people and the government agencies think its a ridiculous waste of time to deal with this every time. All you have to do is spend a few hours on youtube and see how many meteorites, real rocket launches and sun lit contrails and even clouds are reported as something unusual ( mostly UFO's
)

I think the government should have a staff that watches youtube so they can get on it right away...

But if they did that, would anyone believe them any more than they do know? More likely they will just say they are paid disinfo agents

I suggest spend some time at sunsets when the skies show color. I bet you see some weird effects
