Completely agree. You could hear some snickers at the beginning, then they actually got into their routine and the place went nuts. Even the host comes out saying "Stepping is for everybody" and making comments about peoples jaws on the floor. I watched the videos of all the other groups as well, knowing nothing about stepping or whatever technicalities there are. I would have to say on audience reaction alone the group that "won" deserved it. Obviously the judges thought so, on that note just for the sake of argument, what race are the judges?

I have plowed through several pages (content for my Monday show and a love for good beats and cadences) and have several times thought what you mentioned. On to the post topic:

I LOVE all forms of dance (was a cheerleader/dancer) and I grew up in New Orleans... it's not called a "melting pot" for nothing. I watch Hindi dances when I visit family in India and marvel at the beauty. And, because I have daughters who are now women, I've seen all the "Bring It On" and "Stomp the Yard" type films. I have seen all the videos of the competitors and I think the Zeta Tau Alpha team won fairly. I also believe that creating a co-winner prize was a bad move on the part of the sponsors. And, being the tin foil hatter that I am, I question (as did others upthread) the seemingly obvious race baiting over this and other things in our country. It indeed seems to be purposeful in design.

I did go in search of previously released videos of the sorority that won this competition because others questioned even their inclusion at the event. I wanted to know if these girls were put up to competing or if it was something they truly enjoyed and respected as an artform. (It was mentioned upthread that they were maybe brought in to stir things up.) It appears that these young women LOVE what they do; they practiced hard and they went to compete and win. And that audience was on its feet during the performance.

I could get into dance history/ethnicity/slavery diversions a little but that would be fruitless. I only hope to offer another side of these women who attempted to learn from and love their fellow humans during what should have been a friendly competition.

Its late... i was going to bed... and then i see this... sorry but i didn’t have time to read all the posts but i thought i would put my views across...

I am white English and Proud... My wife is Black English and proud...

As you can imagine, we have experienced racism on all sides...

I have seen blatant racism from whites, such as a man calling my wife a Nigger (unfortunately my resulting anger left me with a criminal record)
To the more subtle... "I’ve got no problem with it... but what about your children" type crap!

I have also experienced racism from Blacks... I was blatantly told by one black woman that i had a small penis and could never satisfy my wife (my wife dealt with that one) to the more subtle things like being ignored and dirty looks!

There is a nasty little habit though (that me and my wife have noticed) for people to excuse racism against whites... It always comes with an excuse!

Well to be honest... i don’t give a flying **** if the banking system is run by whites... or if whites own the media... that’s not my fault... i do give a flying **** however, when a black person calls my wife a sell-out!! Or calls me a cracker!!!

Racism is Racism... no excuses... to pick on someone because of their racial background is just plain wrong and the same punishments should be given to all Humans... whatever their colour!!!

If a group of black people won a Morris Dancing competition i would be pleased for them and cheer them on... however, if a majority white audience booed them i would be disgusted... same applies the other way around... disgusting!!


I would like to add that although we have experienced racism... in our 10 years of marriage these instances have been few and far between.

The vast majority of people (black and white) have never treated us any different!

erm so he was white? so was 'adam, if the criteria you're using is the word "red", which you are. not sure why you would want to avoid that?

look at it this way: if nothing else, the big problem is that someone out there doesn't want us to know that the first man created was black, even though he was called 'adam. might interest you to know that the first man and woman created were both called 'adam and they were BOTH created in the image of the Elohiym. Eve doesn't come along till later, and she's created from Adam. the words used to describe the first woman and eve, are different as well.

anyway, you know from talking to me before, that i believe enlil's black headed people refer to black hebrews, so don't get all racked outta shape. but the opening words concerrning the creation 'adam don't appear to differentiate other than the origin of the word 'adam being red or ruddy. i always thought it just meant clay, not skin color.

I read them and there is nothing showing any privilege inherent to being white. What they describe is people in a position of privilege and those people come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Can you just show us one little thing that proves your point instead of links to lists that can be picked apart item by item?

Sounds like fair judgment to me.

White race or races, because there is not only 1 white race but many (another lie from TPTB) had plenty of chances to be annihilated from everyone else but they managed to survive, for 10ths of thousands of years.
They probably will do the same in the future.

you probably see these people that might have posed as models for these pictures, or even created the original style and in return the same style was copied over the across the shores of the Black Sea as Christianity was establishing itself further. It would take less than half a day to fair by boat from one civilization center to another across τhε Black Sea.
As you see they even have ancient war dances, that stomp their feet on the ground dating back at least 1 millennium BC. One might have to wonder who had really copied who and how much we really don't know or we don't want to know about history.

Hey nutter should we hand back rock music? I mean it was based on the Blues genre originated by black slaves. Early white rock and roll was admittedly an attempt by record labels to sell black music to white audeinces. So, does this mean that rock music is an invalid form of white expression?

We know elvis use to hang out in "juke joints." That is where he got the hip shaking from. The Rolling Stones took their name from a Muddy Waters song title. Cream covered Albert King and Robert Johnson. The Beatles were huge fans of guys like Chuck Berry and admittedly took bits of his style to make their own music. So does that mean that white rock music is invalid and white people should stop playing it?

What about the numerous whites that have strived over the years to keep blues music alive? Should they stop playing the music? Should guys like Bob Margolin and Johny Winter that played and worked with Muddy Waters give it up? Should they abandon the music they love because it is a form of black cultural expression?

(I don't usually use the term African-American when speaking about Americans of African heritage. I have had friends from Ghana, Liberia, Somalia, and South Africa. To me they are true African-Americans. They were born on the continent of Africa and migrated.)

All you are doing is telling us what you think. What is wrong with posting an example here? You seem to think your links are FULL of examples of white privilege. I asked you crystallize here in a post for us and you failed to do so. Sad.

-I followed your links and I can search for opinions all day long but that is not what I want. I want a fact to back that opinion up. Do you have any or not?

i read years ago that black ladies have it worse than literally anyone else. but that's starting to change dramatically, due to the fact they get first choice in jobs (qualifying for both female and minority status) in equal opportunity businesses.
