DARK!!!!
I spend hours every night on ATS.
I loath bright backgrounds.
Even my google page is black.

If you guys changed it to a brighter background
I can deffinately say that I would not be spending as much time on here.

Dark if you please. Its easier to read.

also the adage from the hobbit
"dark places for dark things".

Well since ATS makes money through FEAR, it would probably be a better marketing strategy to use a DARKER color palette.

If however ATS wants to make a positive change for its 'corporate image' then it should use the LIGHT meat.

Dark is best.

Although the grey on the old ATS site (2005) wasn't bad at all.

Dark. The lighter background just makes my mild dyslexia see merged chaos. Can't read the light background at all.

Limiting the choices in this age of computing variety is retarded.

Everything being 'skinable'. Why not ATS?

Dark

Silly admins.

Dark please.
I like drum sticks and thighs if it's chicken.
But on the contrary, I like my steaks med-rare.
I don't really know why, I just don't like salad. Oh, but I love pasta!

The chicken went only half-way across the road because she wanted to lay it on the line!
Who's there, Duane? "Duane the bathtub, I'm Dwouning!"
Oh, I've got to get some sleep!!

PLEASE make sure you don't turn it to the UGLY design you've shown in the samples!!

PLEASE!!!

Please stay with dark.
Light is too hard on my eyes and too hard to read on.

The DARK side please

why not keep it the same so you can change from dark to light
that would keep everyone happy.

Is it possible to keep all ATS members happy??

Actually, both are acceptable.

However, I prefer still, the darker text on the lighter background.

Why not have it selectable?

I HOPE, BTW, that something is being done in the overhaul to make finding replies to one's posts quick and easy.

I still say

does the best on the web in terms of

COMMENTS pages where all the posts to the user and from the user are listed.

One can also go to one's FR home page and quickly click to get a listing of all their posts on the forum--in my case, all 90,000 + of them.

The ease of use and the ease of accomplishing all the basic common needs and desires in posting and navigating on such a forum are by far easier on FR than any other forum. Virtually all FREEPERS assert that persistently.

One can quickly go to the various subforums on FR and get a listing of all the currently active threads--actually if one clicks back far enough--all the threads in those forums.

FR only has a limited number of forums as that suits it's scope and needs. However, I think the model is great.

It also has 340,000 members--considerably more than ATS . . . and 1.2-2 million unique visitors/month.

I just think that if they can handle that much traffic with such quickness & ease of navigation on a volunteer donation NO ad basis, ATS can do a lot better. It consistently takes a lot fewer clicks to accomplish the basics on FR than on ATS.

I'm convinced ATS could learn some good things from that.

The clunkiness of navigating ATS is one of the reasons I don't spend more time here. I particularly HATE not being able to QUICKLY, GET A LISTING OF ALL THE POSTS TO ME IN RESPONSE TO MY POSTS.

Also, in each post on FR, there's a link to the post being replied to via it's number. And, the number of the post of that reply will be listed when that post is posted . . . a continuous link back to the beginning of whatever chain of replies within a thread accrues thereby.

Another great feature is the capacity to address a post to specific users who may be interested. . . . individuals interested in that thread and that sequence of main discussion or 'side-bars'

And there are dozens of PING LISTS. I maintain a couple with 150+ members--one on WYRD stuff . . . interested parties ask to be on the ping lists or off if they get too bothered. Their screenames/user names are put in the addressee slot for that post. Very handy.

CONGRATS ON FINALLY GETTING AROUND TO SUCH A MAJOR OVERHAUL.

GREATLY APPRECIATE PROGRESS.

I see the lighter one on the bottom much better. It is hard for me to see dark on dark.

I would prefer dark as i love to read thing here and its easier to do so with a dark contrast

Just a suggestion why not have a skin chooser where we can change the skin of the website the way we want to. Both sides will be happy

The dark would be my pick out of the two. It's easier on the eyes.
