So, if they have stopped reporting, what does that mean?

I have a strong feeling that Yellowstone might be getting ready to erupt.

Yet the people observing it only have a 5 minute max warning? Could you explain your reason as to why you think its about to erupt?

Hey guys does anyone know the location of Lake Mary compared to The Promontory on a map? Visual example please, I am not exactly certain where Lake Mary is on a map. I wonder if the two are close enough to be affected by something. Just a guess there. Thanks

I do not think it will . Not to say it could not, but I think we will wipe ourselves out before it goes off.

A lot of sites have went offline. Perhaps everyones persistant web queries crashed the server.

In effort to be a bit more proactive on getting expert advice, I did a search of the Geology department at Washington University in St. Louis. I read the credentials of the professors and emailed the one with seismology expertize.
Here's a copy of the letter if anyone feels like they would like to do something similar to gather some more information. Perhaps someone not affiliated with the Yellowstone/UofU program may feel more free to speak.

Dear Professor XXXX, An internet website has been closely following the activity in Yellowstone. People are pooling a great deal of information about the situation yet we have little expert opinion, only what has been issued in the press. Some people are convinced that the graphs at Yellowstone Lake and Mary Lake area are showing harmonic waves. If you could please check out the seismographs and get back to me with your opinion, I would greatly appreciate it. Here's a link to University of Utah seismographs: www.quake.utah.edu... and the discussion is at: www.abovetopsecret.com... Thank you in advance for your time and attention to this matter. Sincerely,Ann XXX

Thanks sad_eyed_lady! It is well appreciated. Hopefully the professor will get back to you instead of your mail being marked as spam lol! I guess it was my fault for including harmonic tremors in the subject line, the USGS just doesn't like that word.

This one is still up.

Maybe there is just a delay in posting the data...

Is it just me or has the Old Faithful webcam gone black?
www.nps.gov...

It's been like this for the last 20 minutes now, and I had been observing it minutes before that, where it was fine.

What's going on??

It looks like it is facing the stars.....Which means it was knocked over by something right? That can not be good.

if you would bother reading any of this pile of information you might find that there is a possiblity of a less deadly , and more likely, hydrothermal eruption. It would be close to 3x bigger, or more, that MSH. This is what all infromation is leaning to thats been released.

hot spot starts moving... runs into some underground water source and BOOM its all flashd to steam and we get a massive explosion.

Thank you for that rational perspective. For the record, I agree with you and feel that, if anything is going to happen, this is the more likely outcome. Still a very destructive event but not the end of the world.

I think white dots on the image are hot (defective) pixels on the CCD sensor of the cam.
It happens on some consumer digital photo and video cameras too.

If yellowstone had erupted you would hear it as if someone shouting in your ear through a megaphone.Dead space is one of the best games to come out in 2008 though...for pc obviously.

With all the geologic activity around the globe and the sudden eruptions recently this is the one that worries me the most.

pubs.usgs.gov...

Why does it worry ME you might ask? I'll tell you why. It turns out I'm only about 30 miles west of it, in an area that was once a funnel for one of those lahars. Only a more recent ground lift of about 30 feet is supposed to direct it north of me. 30 feet pfft. Nobody around here seems to know it even exists.

I realize it's not exactly related to this thread other than the fact it's a volcano, but it's a great read nonetheless. It'll give you something to do while you're waiting for that next 4.0.
It's quiet now, however, with no movement whatsoever.

Reading PA. I felt it, I live in lancaster PA. It was a 3.3, so nothing severe.
Though it is odd though... I never felt a earthquake my whole life living here up until a week ago where now I felt 2.

I don't feel this has to do with yellowstone but...
certainly is odd.
