That 2.3 actually occurred 9 minutes ago.

It is probably just me but it seems that the rumbles are lasting a little longer after the past few quakes. It seems like there was a constant rumble between the 3.1 and the 2.3.

Anyone else see this?

Oh you are right, 9 minutes not 9 seconds. (So I still say 3.1 is too small for that one, if they are only reporting it as one) And yes, a constant rumble near YMC/YMR.

Did anyone else notice that the depth on that 3.1 was .1 KM, and then the next two shifted to the North (on the rim) and were deeper?

And there's more coming in on GEE right now.

I just wanted to say "Thank You" on the 500 post page for all of you who are keeping us updated on whats going on in Yellowstone. It is very interesting and I'm learning more everyday. Thanks Again!

500 pages and kicking! It looks like equake pulled the 2.9 off the page but its weird because that showed up like 10 minutes after the 3.1 was listed.

500 pages later and I think she's finally calming down for the night. (Sheesh, lady, some of us want to watch project runway.) I'm out for now, let me know if the world ends.

Oh, I think that 2.9 was the 2.3 that's on the USGS list:

www.seis.utah.edu...

Probably Equake doesn't tell you if it's below a 2.5.

Good catch, I think that's the cutoff for it.

I would like to take away a star of yours for watching project runway though

Just a thought about business as normal with the USGS and YVO during this swarm.

Has anybody thought about the significance of the following that while the Alert remains Normal, and the activity being seen is relatively common in YNP that by 23:15 there had already been seismologist review of the event occurring at 22:38 as well as issuance of Version #4 of the Preliminary Earthquake Report. Normal government hours are roughly 8:00 to 4:30. Is this some overzealous graduate student at Utah State monitoring and reporting during the night of their own fruition or is there enough interest in this common event that YVO in Menlo Park has instituted after hours monitoring and reporting for this swarm? Although not worried by what is going on it has certainly captured their attention and it is being carefully and thoroughly monitored

Just for the record I’ve included the following for one of the recent events (uu0000126)

Wow...500 pages!

This thread hallmarks my introduction to the Yellowstone caldera. I have learned much from many on this thread and enjoyed hours of good reading.

Now, if only she'll calm down! While it's exciting to watch, I'm starting to get a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach that I would like to go away!!

I've thought the same thing at about this time of day every night this week, and then... Surprise! Yet another vertical trend line for Akira's cumulative-energy graphs. Seriously, doesn't it look like they've got HAARP on a daily timer to anyone else? But of course, who would want to make it erupt without a handy nearby planet to hide on and a way to get there fast? Better quit there before I start quoting John's Revelation.

Bon nuit, everyone. Bon nuit to us all.

I have read this post for a long time now I have never posted I feel a little out of my league. You guys and gals have alot more eyes than you know watching and hanging on your words thank you!!!! Also I read awile back if we start to see the quakes above 1/2 kilometer we should worry especially it it shifts from that point I think we might have a problem from what I am seeing please advise thank you.

I wonder if it's a typo - let's see if they revise it... otherwise that's VERY shallow and surely significant...

I am no expert I just remember one of the guys who post here saying to watch out for it and when I looked at the link form Utah they gave me on this thread I about fell out of my chair. I think we all know something is coming but we just don't know what I would hate to think it was Yellowstone but something is amiss in this world I just cant figure out what it is.

Oh, that was just me. Don't take it seriously, I just pulled that number out of thin air. I have no idea what the actual "danger depth" would be. How thick does a sheet of rock need to be to keep from shattering under that much pressure? And how much pressure is there? How already-fractured is the rock? A billion variables. I'm not sure anyone could predict it.

Besides; a quake that shallow is probably wrong. Those instant warnings are all computer-generated. Soon as someone reviews it, it'll probably move down to at least 8 km. And if not... erm, I just checked. It's marked as reviewed. It really was 0.1 km, unless someone hasn't had enough coffee tonight. At least it says "Poorly constrained"... oh wait.

Location Uncertainty: depth +/- 12.3 km (7.6 miles)

Whew.

Well could you maybe in the future clarify a little more you guys are kind of like my yellowstone earthquake go to's and I trust what you say. But it makes sense that the closer to the surface the greater the threat right?

Not sure if this link has been added before, but just in case it hasn't, here's a cool way to keep track of the recorders in the area of the current swarm in real-time. Interesting to see the big quakes being represented in the farthest-flung recorders.
