I just wanted to jump in about the EQ clouds. I've noticed them a few times in the past, but didn't know what they were. I saw some the other day. The next day, there was a 3.0 not far away in TN. I'm also in TN. My thanks to all the technical geniuses on this board, and I continue to read over your shoulder. I don't think we've seen the last of this swarm and I don't want to get caught napping. I'm getting more supplies stocked up, just in case.

The reason I've been declarative and combative is that my motives were questioned. Even after I insisted I would give up my hypothesis and research if I could be proved wrong. Every bit of my conjecture has been supported with conclusions made by geologists themselves.
I listened to the first three samples and then my player kept closing. The first one sound like a steam whistle to me. With pulses that sounded like liquid. The others sounded like a pipe organ underwater. If I had the 40 sample identified correctly, it didn't play. I am not very well versed on the computer and am not sure how to fix so I can hear.

No one seems to have an answer for the LKWY except it's man-made. I disagree completely. I've provided research to show large earthquakes change the activity at Yellowstone. On January 15th, they occured vigorously not long after. Some of them irregular. Since there is a proven link between earthquakes and the geysers at Yellowstone. It is extremely probable that we are witnessing a change. Sorry, I'm not making this stuff up, it's reasearch by the USGS themselves. With kudos for your efforts, I still did not hear a motor, I heard tones and groans. They sounded like the radiators in my childhood home. They sounded familiar.

Thankfully Mount Redoubt is taking everyone's attention away from this for the moment. The lastest is a code orange. An eruption is likely in days or weeks. Sorry for being fiesty, my motives were being questioned. I stand by everything written. And I do believe I have discovered something new which deserves real investigation. I've had every rejection possible. From being mocked, ingnored, dismissed and polite oblivion. I'll debate the facts, but I won't debate my character. I come here because I feel I must. I only draw people to my hypothesis because I believe it's rational, geographical, geometric, and physically possible and I demonstrate the dynamic in an experiment. Call my experiment a fart in the wind and I'll say you're entitled to your opinion. Question my stated motives and you'll get an earful and my opinion. I really don't like downloading files off the net. Could you not post the samples on a you tube video form. I can't even find my way around blogs and threads. That's why I stuck to You Tube. I figured out one site and stuck to it. I wouldn't even have a computer if it wasn't for my wacky idea. I got it to get assistance for investigation. I've got- not that. I could have wrote my novel with the old typewriter I started it with. I'd love to let this damn thing go. But I haven't found the flaw. Trust me, I have not been half as cranky or miserable with you as I am with myself. The debate in my head is twice as fierce and has the intensisty of the most important thing ever. I don't make my claims bold and assured because I just want the attention of others. I make my statements because it is what I believe after research and investigation. I would love one person to convince me I'm wrong. The arguments have been that there is no historical reference, it is irrelevent because it is new. Researchers are now investigating the possiblity that Santorini and Krackatoa were breached by sea water and could be a possible explaination as to why they exploded and were obliterated and had massive shockwaves. My idea is not kooky. It's just big. It's a matter of scale. And the evidence for Hudson Bay, where is that? Obliterated. And any remainder scubbed clean by glaciation. As for Yellowstone. I beilieve that the last eruptions were roof collapses. This upcoming eruption may be different because of the position of the lake. Sorry. I'm doing that a lot, just thinking aloud. Where's that switch?

Hi TREMORS4. I know you are new to posting on this thread, and welcome.

I learnt, by being scolded (!), that you should use the edit button to correct any mistakes. If you have to go back and edit again, delete the 'edited' line at the bottom and it will appear again when to save the edit. Also 'one liners' are frowned on. I also learnt that if you think of something else, and your original post is not too far away, you should add your thought to the original post.

Hope you don't mind me mentioning this but this is a very large thread and we don't want to upset the moderators!!

Question for ya PuterMan...how close are you to completing the stand alone version of your data/audio converter?

Great job on the SQL ver!

Cheers!!!!

If you are comparing the clouds in your area to the photos of the clouds posted several pages back, they are not EQ clouds. Most of the photos posted here are just beautiful high level cirrus clouds.

Thanks for that Robin, and a star too! I understand your motives, and your plight, and I am not in any way saying your theories are wrong. We do tend to be analytical on this thread, and at times harsh, but you really should not take it to heart.

I think I can honestly say that everyone on the thread would be delighted to find out exactly what the 'pipecleaners' are, and should it prove to be your theory then you may rest assured that I am man enough to admit that I was wrong. Likewise you would be expected to do the same. Believe me I have made suggestions which have been knocked on the thread, but that is life and I pick up the pieces, admit my error and carry on.

I sincerely hope that you do not feel that I or anyone else on the thread are being antagonistic or spiteful. That I am sure is not the case.

As to the 40 Hz file, some players will have a problem with that and it is a pity that you have not been able to listen to it. May I suggest VLC or WinAmp, or possibly Audacity - but I can tell you it plays in Windows Media Player.

Now, I was not going to say anything about this in case I do not get a result, however in light of your post I feel it right to do so.

I have tonight sent all the data, graphs, sound files etc to Prof Smith at Utah to ask him for his opinion on the subject. I hope he responds, not so that I can crow if he agrees with me, or weep if he does not, but so that hopefully we can get a definitive answer.

I will keep you all posted on that one.

It is done in the SQL Sever version, which includes facilties for getting EQ data from USGS and shelling out to the locations in Google Earth. I had not intended to make a seperate version of just the audio part, but I will certainly consider that. I am going to produce a version that does not need the full SQL Server and has it's own database.

Sorry just realised you knew about the SQL version. Yup I will see what I can do about a stand alone one.

The caterpillars are increasing in frequency and have increased size since the most recent start up on Jan 26, they began very faintly and then grew to the average size. On the Jan 27th they are dispruted during the period when there was a 2.8 magnitud quake on the northern rim. On the 28th the area was in flux in the afternoon but then they made their reemergence where they showed up and now make almost hourly signatures. The large quake disrupted them. And other activity during this time seems to stop them. They started after the 7.2 Kuril and they stopped during a 2.8 in the park. The appearance and dispearance can shown to be as a result of siesmic activity. The ones on Jan 15 were not as regular as the current ones. They were variable and had a large signal.
I wish I could listen to the one in particular at 40 Hz. I'm assuming it was the on with the 40 in the title. I'll try again. And I couldn't get windows to play it. I haven't a clue with all my options. I just press on links and hope they work. And don't you find it curious that the only site the are picked up this is at the site of the swarm epicenter. I would expect a pump to be picked up by one of the other stations. If it was another station other than the LKWY, I would chalk it up to something exterior. But since these strange vibrations originate in the same spot where all the action started and was centered. How can it be a coinsedence? Until they locate a source and find a way to explain with facts and details. The question will still be open. To not wanting to confirm their source with invesitgation to me seems curious or foolish. Every event that occurs under Yellowstone must be discovered and analysed. Even to make sure that if it is a motor. It is identified and can be filtered out. Suggestions aren't answers. I hope they have specific information concerning the source. Until then, I will believe they are fluid and gas movement in the aquifer under the North end of the Lake. As the groundwater is pulsed by waves from earthquakes, it applies pressure as it's forced into channels. The water could be being sucked and propelled out of fractures forcing out gas. And as I've said, the water differential in the tempeature of water flowing past a different stream can be producing electromagnetic currents. Sorry. Just still trying to keep all the facts in my head and articulate them. I know these things are key to understanding what's happening in the geyers system. I would love to be wrong about everything and give up. I hope it's a new sump they put in a lodge somewhere and they find it and replace it. If it's a motor, it's corrupting the data and must be sourced and eliminated. Sherlock Holmes. Eliminate all the impossibilities and you have the answer no matter how improbable it seems. Paraphasing. Ok I'm fumbling for the switch. Watch my experiment and find the flaw in my logic.

Well I'm fairly sure the Soda Butte 12:06(ish) one will get added in by the UU/YS staff later on. I did a quick check for events and there is nothing close time wise except for a 1.8 in NV, of which would barely show up on the graph. It also looks like they had some smaller ones in that area and I think the epicenter will likely be N/NE of the Soda Butte sensor for that large spike.

And just a joke, to lighten the mood, I was going to suggest that maybe they are extra-terrestrial and the caterpillars are a warning. We would have to decipher the tones like in close encounters of the third kind. I think i identify with the mad mashpotato artist. I've created my own magma chamber shaped snow bank for my kid to slid down. I can barely finish this. We need to be checking the tones for a code for some mathematical formula relating to the timing of a quake. As you can tell I've watch alot of movies. But if someone is watching us, wouldn't they understand the danger, and maybe want to give us some hints and clues. I just had to lighten my own load for a minute and put this in prespective. Humour. thank you. even if it's bad.

2 Questions....

What is a caterpiller?

Why can't we start a new thread for this topic? Why not just divide it into weeks making it eaiser to follow! I am very interested in this topic but there is NO way I can sort through things the way it is now!

Now was the peice 7 min 20 seconds long? To me it sounded like an electric power line. One the big tower lines. It sounded like the electromagnetic buzz and crackle which eminates from high voltage lines. Some Old greek guy said you can predict an earthquake if there is electical discharges coming from the ground. It was just a passing reference. Maybe you know the guy and his work. I heard lots of motors before. Worked on a farm. I've heard desil, gas, chainsaw, sump pumps, all kinds. But didn't recognize it to be a motor. But these are guesses. The source must be determined and isolated. But keep up the work and see if you get an answer back. I got to let this go. Now I want to go research the dude with his electrical discharge theory and look into that. Oh the roads never cease.

Maybe you have a Idea there...anyone think we could do a "What's Going on at Yellowstone? (02-09 or Chapter 2)" Do monthly chapters? Start Chapter 2 Feb 1st at 12 UTC? It would get us off the Hog Forum List maybe and be easier to link to events as they occured at a specific timeframe for future research purposes...

Also maybe present some kind of table of contents linking like...

12-28-08 - Pg 001
01-01-09 - Pg 081
01-08-09 - Pg 274
01-15-09 - Pg 358
01-22-09 - Pg 397
01-29-09 - Pg 411

Yes it could be done but would it help?

To know what is being talked about it is still necessary to have familiarity with what went on in the last 100 pages, or even last year. Having a new thread each month would not simplify that. This thread is evolving with individuals interests as well as new information or concepts coming up and whatever else is or may somehow influence what we are seeing at Yellowstone.

So my opinion. It wouldn't make it any easier to grasp what the brains are saying and where they are going by having a new monthly thread. I think it would make it more difficult. Besides, the number of posts per day is now way down as compared to earlier this month.

My vote - keep it all in one place. It is all on a common theme - Yellowstone and earthquakes.

Cheers and keep the good ideas flowing.

Has anyone noticed that the quakes at Yellowstone now look like a big smile on the recent earthquakes map

earthquake.usgs.gov...

Perhaps it is nothing to smile about, maybe it is the outline of the new caldera that will blow.

There are other current Yellowstone threads on ATS (which I am too tired to dig up to cite here) that could be "Yellowstone 101." This clearly is the place for people who, for reasons that range from terror to obsessive behavior, feel compelled to read voluminous amounts of information and who will periodically toss out some links to newbies who are eager to get as much up to speed as possible on a complex topic. Although I consider this thread mostly disinfo (you know who you are), there is still the possibility of finding great info nuggets. I like that it's in a pile all in one place. I just wish it were available in a printable version.

"Were" not "was." Why can't I leave it alone? It's fine. It's acceptable. I'm hittinggggg edittttt...
