The following is in regards to numerous recent earthquake activity:

There was even a small 2.4 magnitude earthquake near Dillsburg, York County, Pennsylvania, and of course a large number have been seen at Yellowstone Park, the site of a supervolcano. Oddly enough, at the time of writing, the reports on seismic activity at Yellowstone have not been updated, even though quakes higher than magnitude 3.0 have occurred since the last entry. This might be due to staff availability over the weekend, or someone does not want the figures to be shown for some reason.

The recent increase in earthquake activity may be a coincidence, but it makes you wonder whether something much worse is heading our way.

One earthquake can have an effect on another. This may be what you were referring to. THIS WRITING CONTAINS MEGA INFO. PLEASE READ!

QUAKE IN ALASKA CHANGED YELLOWSTONE GEYSERS
Some Erupted More Often, Others Less Often After Big Jolt 2,000 Miles
Distant

May 27, 2004 - A powerful earthquake that rocked Alaska in 2002
not only triggered small earthquakes almost 2,000 miles away at
Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park - as was reported at the time - but
also changed the timing and behavior of some of Yellowstone's geysers
and hot springs, a new study says.

Hi Everyone,

I live in Ohio and honestly, I am scared to death right now. I am no scientist but I do have good common sense and that tells me that we are closer than the experts are telling to a major eruption at YS. It seems obvious to me that the network news and newspapers are keeping strangely quiet about this entire situation.

I am not going to panic but I have played out the scenario and what it would mean to our survival in my head for days now, not good for any of us. I will prepare for at least one month of provisions. If it blows at least by the end of that month, I will know if I can survive in the world that is left or have the choice to end it. I just wish my kids and Grand kids were all near me now and not spread out all over the country.

God help us all

We have the responsibility here not to scare the pants off off anyone. We have our moments at times. but honestly, this site and thread is possibly the BEST public forum of information out there where communication and thoughts still flow.

Keep watching and keep your head about you and straight.
Non of us anywhere know when she will blow.
However , to be fore warned is to be prepared, and then let the fear go.
Sounds as if you have made a good choice in preparing weather it be this or a tornado.

Keep watching us here. Learn what you can from the sites we find. Ask all the questions you want. We have had some looloos , but we can field them .

It made my head spin though.

Yeah I took a look at that, and while the math seems sound, it revolved around older seismographs, not the live data that we are getting in Gee. First of all, we are looking at three separate channels of plotted ground movements, each moving in their own direction. So would you please explain to me how that previous methodology is going to work using Gee?

I see that maybe since their scale was in mm, we could correlate that to microns easily and then try and run the calculations, but frankly what people are looking for is an easy way to do this. And you figure with computer technology the way it is, this ought to be a whole lot easier than that. So at this point it is just easier for me to calculate it judging from the quakes I've seen in it. And it really doesn't matter anyway, because seconds later they calculate it based on averages from other station readings, and pow, it shows up in our new friend the Firefox eq add on.

Quick reply to the posts about the MIcrovolts on the helio's being raised on some.... This is simply a way to make the graphs less messy with every lil bump and jump. They will still be there, its just that this way the graphs are easier to read and follow. They arent trying to hide something from us at all just trying to make it easier for themselves to read the graphs.

POint in case the mary lake spread that looked like a 5 year old with finger paints.....need I say more

That may well be true, but Mary Lake is one of the only ones that WEREN"T changed.
Still measuring at 100 Microvolts.

3.6 in upper Nevada just now.
How many sies graphs picked this up?
I can only see a couple at a time.

3.6 in Nevada.

I am a longtime earthquake watcher. The last few months I have seen more random quakes around the country in unusual places and larger ones across the seas. I remember mentioning to a friend that something is definitely changing.
Clearly the whole earth is talking to us. Not just one area.
Perhaps it will do a little rearranging and sleep a little more.

I believe it is the economic slow down, as to to why they don't report what is speculation at this moment. That is prudent for now.

As during the past thousands of years, it is up to you to decide what is right for your continuance and well being. To put that in the hands of others is a risky business.

Who do you depend on for your daily bread?

I'm scared too. The thing I hate is not being in control of my life. More than that by far I want to take care of the family no matter what. My question is where do we go? Can we survive in a cellar 300 miles away, upwind? Would we want to? How much ass before the roof falls in? Will it burn or just suffocate? One verse from the bible keeps popping in my head that says, mens hearts will fail them from fear. Seems appropriate,eh? I'm so there. Sorry for the filler post but had to get that off my chest, thanks!
Just tell me when to head south, Please? Someone promise to tell us, ok?

Hi guys, I wanted to notify everybody that I discovered that the IRIS site (Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology) allows to download raw and highly detailed seismograph files (40-100 hz resolution, depending on the station) in both realtime streaming mode with a special protocol (the same used by GEE by the way!) and downloadable format. The easy way (from an user perspective) to access to this data is from the BUD web interface (BUD = Buffer of Uniform Data) page. Files for a full 24 hour day are rather large as they weight about 2.7-2.8 megabytes on average.

The only problem is that I can't seem to find any utility to convert these files (they're in IRIS miniSEED format) to audio wave files, and since their format is rather obscure (I guess it's mainly used by scientists) it's hard to find any relevant information regarding it on the web.

Anyway, since all this data is freely available for the common user, the only problem is only how to decipher it.

Just keep your eyes/ears open and chin up. This is going to be going on for a while. I'm personally sure something major will happen - probably several things. All over the place and over the next few day, months and years. I'm not going to say that it will be catastrophic. No one here can say difinitively what is going on with Yellowstone except that it is not normal despite reports to the contrary. This thread is a great place to keep your eyes on it though.

"How much ass before the roof falls in? "

Sorry (chuckle)

Just keep tuned in here. Make your own safe choices.
RFBurns and others have monitors.
Let the fear go , keep your head straight.
There are a lot of us here to watch and listen to her.

Awesome thread!! I've been following it from the start, and do have a couple of questions that have not been addressed. If the Yellowstone eruption were to blow, what would the impact to the earth's atmosphere be as far as the oxygen content available. I realize that the increase in gases into the atmosphere would decrease the available oxygen, as well as the ash fall would make it harder to access available oxygen, but what of the loss of vegetation? How far away from the ash fall area would the vegetation decrease?
Keep up the great work!!

Trying to keep this thread alive and not redundant has been tough. It's gotten so long that it's almost past the point of trying to get caught up from the beginning. A few pages back (and also a hundred or so pages back) there have been some great links posted with the intent of getting newcomers to the conversation up to speed.

In a further attempt, many of these links have been compiled into a few very short and very informative topics.

I encourage everyone with all of this great info to contribute to check out this easily readable topic. It's only 2 pages long and chock-full-o good info.
If you'd like to add to it, make sure it's not there already.

That's become impossible to do here as it's gotten too long. We're trying to regroup and move forward.

What's Happening At Yellowstone? Nothing at the moment.

If the activity picks up again, this thread will revert to hard data pouring in but for now it's evolving a bit. In my opinion, there's plenty of room for speculation and questions here but let's try to do our part. Everyone has great things to contribute. Lets keep it less redundant though by contributing any pertinent stuff to the topics above as well.

Just trying to answer some concerns that have sprung up

I have been looking at that data,here is how I have been doing it;
Go here www.iris.edu...
then scroll down the first column(network) to "US" click, second column(station) "LKWY" click, for that station, go to channel and select the one you want, then data day 2009.004(today)then to display data column for webicorder, or how ever you want to look at it.
You can also get to the WY network the same way, just select WY instead of US in the first column and go from there.

I have not tried to download any of their software, I know that some of it is for IRIS members only.

You can also go here
www.iris.edu...
and click on the red R`s(realtime) for the station that you want

I wonder if the activity in Yellowstone could be HydroThermal in nature and be linked to the mysterious disappearing Glaciers in Glacier National Park?
I mean, that water has to go somewhere. I wonder how much of it is funnelled underground towards Yellowstone. Anybody have any ideas?

Being that Indonesia experienced several earthquakes in various areas recently I did a search and found that the one in 2004 had an effect on the San Andreas fault. Also, there are two volcanoes erupting, Semeru - Java and Egon - Indonesia.

Great Indian Ocean Earthquake of 2004 Set Off Tremors in San Andreas Fault

New research shows that the great Indian Ocean earthquake that struck off the Indonesian island of Sumatra on the day after Christmas in 2004 set off tremors nearly 9,000 miles away in the San Andreas fault at Parkfield, Calif.
