Toast - Here in NZ we are all taught to have a permanent earthquake kit set up somewhere on the property, so having bought your water and food stocks isn't a churlish move - it's a very sensible one - keep it stocked and ensure you have other emergency supplies in it.

We have a body that provides info on what to keep/do in such an event - remember we have 10's of thousands of quakes here in NZ each year, and we never know which one will be the BIG one... www.eq-iq.org.nz...

Looks like we just had a decent little spike near Mary Lake.

It means the public school system has failed you. I'm pretty sure that Santa Claus has little to do with any of these events. I am also sure that if you want answers to a very complicated bit of geology without any definitive answer, you're going to have to actually read to find it. Since you seem to be seeking a yes or no kind of response... The odds are no, no eruption in the foreseeable future. That said, there are allot of unanswered questions to sort through and something could happen. You have to do some reading to understand the hows and whys beyond that. But sleep easy tonight. Nothing seems ready to pop. In fact, things are quieting, as far as quakes.

Correct me if i'm wrong because my memory on history could be majorly flawed here. But did we not see similar to this durin the eruption at Mt St. Helens. There was lots of activity and rumblings and harmonic tremors then for about a period of 48 hours the mountain went completley quiet? Like i said I could be wrong but I faintly remember this happening to the point were the evacuation was about to be lifted before the activity sky rocketed again?

The lines at 1330 and 1630 sure look like harmonic tremors to me.

here is a typical example of a harmonic tremor

They are the result of the earth ringing like a bell from the jolts on the other side of the globe.

Indeed, very scary, just now that things seem to have calmed down a bit.

My guess is, this is far from over.

I think they look like harmonic tremors. imho. It does seem like mt st helens did the same thing for a couple months or so then there was a 5. something earthquake and thats when it blew. It did spew smoke for awhile before hand at least to give some warning!
I thought we decided it was probably residual tremors from the indonesia events. Yellowstone seems to be a "radiator" for the planet, giving off tremendous heat as it cools the planet! Once again, in my humble opinion, for what its worth. Has anyone emailed the U of Utah to see if we could pry some info out of one of them? And could we please get a light on old faithfull? Maybe a handi wipe event? Thanks!

Thanks, I'll watch my language anyway!
Did anyone notice old faithfull just before sundown?
It was going nuts, just about the same time as the tremors!
It would be awesome if they could throw up a couple more
webcams but that may be pushin it, especially this time of year!
I have spent quite a bit of time there myself, was almost a religious experience at the time, it was all so overwhelming. I could really feel the energy, for lack of a better way to put it.

Well, I know that the deer and elk hunting harvest this year was down 20-25% over last year. And, quite frankly, it has been quiet as hell around my house in the Ferndale MT area. I know some of that is weather related, but I just haven't seen many deer and I usually see a lot near my home. Kind of creepy when put in the context of this.

Intresting the second one had almost no vertical acceleration it was just good shake. There has to be a significance to that kind of a jolt.
