luckily I'm about 300 yards from the GW bridge, so I can at least get to Jersey.

I'll get right on that lens thing. We got 5 inches of snow overnight though so it might take awhile to get the truck warmed up.

Thanks RFBurns for the EAS info, fould a great document on the Wyoming EAS.
Wyoming EAS

10-4. I posted a few pages back links to the Wyoming EAS state plan and the surrouding state's EAS plans too. There are several other links with excellent info that I recommend people save and print for reference.

Cheers!!!!

Oh that's right, I did see that. I did all that searching and you had it laid out for us. Don't know what I was thinking about the EAS alerts, I just put batteried in the scanner and tuned to 162.400mhz so I'm all better. Need to get a darn weathercube at least I guess.

As for that lens...
Normally there is someone that wipes it off because it's constantly getting soaked with mist from the geyser. It's not the most protected webcam I've seen that's for sure.

Im not any expert in evacuation planning for congested cities or anywhere else, but I hope that the city council and port authority there in NY has a plan in place so that orderly evacuations can take place instead of a scramble jam session. I would check with your state's emergency evacuation plans, maybe linked through the NY state EAS plan.

Cheers!!!!

I detect quite a bit of hostility in your posts, and it isn't warranted, also we were chatting during a lull in the postings here, so I was making an observation. I have an idea. If you want to split hairs fine, I can hang around all day if need be.

Normal and typical activity on geyser hill.

HOT WATER + COLD AIR = steam..

Thank you for pointing that out.

Hehehe, I would have used an enclosure equipped with a window and with a small wiper so that when the lens gets mist or snow on it, they can remotely wipe front of the enclosure lens clean...maybe even put a small washer system on it like in auto's.

Sorry just the engineer in me kicked in on that.

Cheers!!!!

Current Wind Speeds = Wind Speed: W 17 G 33 MPH

via: forecast.weather.gov...

Again.... where is the wind noise today???

(Correctio: that wind data is a couple of hours old... wasn't any spill over into the helicorders then either)

2cents.. all ya get.

According to this link:

www.usgs.gov...

Old Faithful goes off on average between every 50-90 minutes. There's a link to a study that discusses how precipitation and season affect this, but you have to pay for that study. Today, the geyser goes off every few minutes and gushes for some time. Granted, there is plenty of melting snow to fuel it...

My question is whether anyone has data as to how often to expect an eruption of the geyser on an average snowy day in January? This would allow us to judge whether this is a normal day or if the hydrothermal features of the park are abnormally active...

Anyone? Also, what are the predictions they have posted for today... The audio recording on the Web-cam says these are posted daily at the park.

There is no smoke being emitted from the geysers. It's steam... and yes, the difference in coloring is due to shadows (from the other steam, or from clouds overhead).

The problem is, going back through 5 years of data, others here have not discovered anything that looks like what we have been seeing, and given that strongs winds are frequent here, you would expect to see this pattern replicated many times over . They say it isn't there.

Also, winds have continued but the harmonics have stoppsed.

There is no reasonable cause and effect between the wind and the harmonics we have seen. At laset this is how I have understood the information that has been shared here to play out.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I did yesterday, showing the same type of pattern on the Mary Lake siesmo throughout years, including several on lake yellowstones.

But lets drive the nail home.

How about Bozeman Pass seismos ran by the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology yesterday? Is Bozeman Pass going to blow up too?

mbmgquake.mtech.edu...

When their site comes back online (it was about a half hour ago) Look at the Bozeman Pass ones and compare the times.

Since Bozeman just HAPPENED to be far enough NOT to feel the 3.0-2.0 quakes, yet exhibited the same type of |||||||||||||||||| wind garbage people stated as harmonic at nearly the same times yesterday it should be VERY interesting to see how THAT is explained. I'd love to see how Bozeman picked up harmonics from yellowstone at the same time -- yet was far enough away to NOT feel the 3.0-2.0 quakes. Correct me if I'm wrong, k?

If someone can explain that to me, I'd love to hear it.

Can we please get back to non noise webcams and focus on the swarm?

So that posts don't become repeated over and over...this has been discussed and answered about 3-4 pages ago. Please go back and read the responses about the steam.

Well see, there you go!
I bet if you took them an enclosure they'd put it into use. After all it's like OLD FAITHFUL, one of our nations greatest tourist attractions - What's up with the cheezy setup and how much do they pay the guy to play with the webcam? How'd you like to have that job?

Just think of the contribution you could make to the country

Looks like that vent on the NPS cam is about to go off. I just saw the operator move it around nearly 360 degrees, finally saw the complete landscape surrounding it.

I wish I could see a top view of the spouts. Are they big holes? Or like giant pimples? Sorry, it was the only thing I could think of to describe them..lol

I wonder what's causing those 1-1.30 minute long periodic oscillations on LKWY along the NEE-SWW (very approximately) axis. They look like very light harmonic tremor (this doesn't mean it's magma) as they're very regular in appearance. Their axis is almost perfectly perpendicular to the location of the earthquake swarm occurred these days anyway.

EDIT:
By the way, other than its speed, how's wind direction on Yellowstone at the moment?

I have read all the posts and yes if u did u see at least 15 posts from me.
The color is mutch diffrent than 2 days or more ago.

And i'm worried that this is the moment of silence before .....

ytp is showing kind like harmonic waves. But not that huge.

EDit question: is there another webcam on animals over here?
The mammoth webcam 1 and 2 both standing still.

The answer hasn't changed any. Myself and others have already posted (today) about the whole steam/smoke/color thing. No sense in repeating it and cluttering up the thread.
