The bible WAS invented for MAN to over power other MAN. So, about 95% of the bible is c.r.a.p./false. I can tell you that Jesus is real, he is, aswell as God is within the 'Kingdom Of God'. I know with 'personal experience'.

Dude the next time your spending time with the Jesusgod can you ask him a few questions for me, or better still arrange a meet ?

Ask who? You said JesusGod. By the way. With my 'personal experience' Jesus isn't God. I know that for a fact. God does allow humans to pray to him, just aslong as you pray whatis within your heart, not praying like 'Oh God! Can you please change the t.v channel for me because I am lazy'...God and Jesus can 'see' what is what! you are truely praying for, and 'see' what is truely in your heart. Be honest and truthful when praying.

Well I don't really mind which one you ask dude, you claim Jesus is real so he'll do but there again if god is the boss and they're not the same try god.

Here you go, earnestly ask god or jesus why he doesn't heal amputees unless of course you allready know the answer then there won't be much point troubling jesus or god.

Incidently if jesus and god are different how do you know which one is answering you ?

Hey SN I didn't know you're a christian, I had the impression you were some sort of new ager. Well i was obviously wrong then, equally so i could be wrong about the jesusgod, unlikely but possible. If so then i'm sure jesusgod will let me know at the appropriate time and forgive me for my wrong assumption which was based on lack of evidence.

I shall give a classic example of some of what I go thru- and why I am the way I am:

Me: "life (did something stupid for the day)"

Friend: "God is control, you know... give it to Him"

Me: "If God is control, then HE gets the blame for (the stupidity of the day)"

Friend: "God isn't in control of the world, Satan is"

Me: "God controls Satan, then"

Friend: " No- God gave Satan free reign"

Picture, if you will, me desperately trying to throttle this person in sheer frustration.

Either God's in control, OR HE ISNT! Ya cant have both states!

Yahweh does not want robots, who walk around, mumbling, " I LOVE YOU GOD>>>I LOVE YOU GOD>>>!!!"

He wants sincerity of heart, my man...

Life is complex...

The universe is complex...

Good and evil is complex...

I am specifically praying God will lead a level-headed Christian your way...gotta watch though...ok?

I wouldn't be around here in life, if they weren't kind and loving of humans.

Aaaaaaahhhhh, yes.

And a perfect, perfect, perfect example of Christianities 'better than thou' attitude.

The poor African baby boy dies a slow painful death of AIDS passed to him by his mother because God shuns him.

Sigh, ah GeeeeZ...God must hate them African kids. Ah but yes. Of course God loves you. He will save you because "he" loves you much more than those poor insignificant souls...

Bear with the pomposity...

The only degree I hold from a non-secular university is my PhD, and that is from a famous Jesuit school that is held in universal high regard. My undergrad and master's were from secular universities of some national standing. All of this said to bring some context to my next and following statements.

I have yet to meet a single, secular historian teaching today that has publicly denied the existence of a preacher/teacher named Jesus. Moreover, secular historians will agree on these things: that a man named Yeshua lived, that he was a Jew, and most likely a left-leaning Pharisee.

You claim that he did not exist. So I ask if you might name one historian with any global credibility (not some Internet "professor") that would make that statement. Again, let us not mince words. I am speaking not of the "theological Jesus", but the historical figure.

I am of this community and I know of no one who would make this statement. Only a few ardent cynics who are never asked to speak at national or international seminars due to their poor logic would make this statement (and I believe they make it for "shock" and "rabble-rousing" value). Whether or not you will agree that this human was divine or "special", most people who have spent dedicated study of the subject would agree that he in fact lived.

Most historians agree that the period of time between Sulla and Claudius is very well documented in regards to those regions of the Roman empire. While the manu.fragments of manuscripts we have available about historical figures usually are second century copies, the idea that their importance made them favorable items to be copied is not in dispute. There are no remnants of first century BCE documents about Julius Caesar, but most people accept that we do have is accurate. Jesus is another historical figure with the same level of documentation. Most recently, unlike Caesar, documents have been found in Egypt, referencing the individual that date to the period of 30-40 CE. Considering that most of the ancient world believed in cremation for health reasons, most academics rely heavily on documents that date within a hundred year period of the individual in question.

So I put the onus on you to enlighten us all as to what/who your sources are that so completely disregard the international academic community.

Mullet35:

There were over 500 people that saw Jesus after he was resurrected along with his disciples. If it was all a lie, how has a lie kept living on for over 2,000. And all of the disciples save for John ALL died terrible deaths while still going to their death proclaiming the truth of Christ and God. Not one of them said "Hey, wait a minute here, I never really believed in that guy Jesus and all that stuff he was teaching." Not one of them!

Something to think about!

Peace in Christ the Lord,
Grandma

I can easily tell you why such a 'tale' has lived on for 2000 years. Probably because it has survived for over 10 thousand years! But then, there are those that simply refuse to believe that those tales are real even though they virtually mimick the resurrection to a "T".

But how? Well, you get people in power (the CHURCH was ALL OF THE POWER back then) to say it is so. Then, they tell you that your soul is in jeopardy unless you listen to what they have to say. You must give a certain amount of your hard earned money to the church and believe EVERYTHING we tell you as fact even though we have ZERO PROOF that it is fact. In essence, you must have FAITH in us. Then they tell the story and it becomes embedded in cultures as the people spread and the religion grows.

That's how grandma. Not because of the 'witnesses' that have given ZERO FIRST witness accounts. The only accounts are from people that decided to put the tales they were told into text. Dozens and even hundreds of years after the said event happened. No eye witness accounts. Just stories passed on.

Do you have any figures about how many secular non-profits exist? I do. Do you have figures of how much money Catholic Relief Services dedicates to HIV/AIDS relief? I do. Do you know how much money relief organizations give comparatively to government relief? I do.

Please back the snark up with some solid facts.

actually yes. I have helped them with cheritable events raising thousands of dollars.

I am not in on the bashing christians group, but that posters statement is a good example as to why some Christians are disliked.

Sorry if you don't like that.

Hi, I've been lurking for some time without signing up. I've had some interesting things happen recently that has opened my mind to some things I have had it close to before. As my circle of friends are cynical academics I am stuck with no one to speak with or share my thoughts and questions.

I only popped on this board because the subject of my dissertation was the historical Jesus.

Sorry for the "pomp".

what does that have to do with what i said? many many christians believe they have been healed by God. They believe their faith cured them through praying and what not.

But for some reasons other people who do not have the same medical care as Western civilsations have never recieve any 'miracles.'

that is b.s....period. I have heard of many many miracles that on the outside seem like miracles. But when you dig a little deeper they are nothing of the sort.

little story.

many years ago. my moms mom (whom i never knew). devout christian. believed in the old testament and the 'healing' power of 'God'. she became very ill one day and would not go to the hospital because she believe 'God' would heal her.

She died of hemeraging to the brain a few days later.

Where was God then? Where is god protecting the millions of sudans refugees being slaughtered by terrorists?

Im not saying there is no god. I am saying it has nothing to do with your daily life on a worldly level.

ignorant people will always look outside of themselves to fix their problems.

i have no problem with peoples faith in a higher power. you can call it Jesus, muhammad or Zeus for all i care. In some cases I actually believe it is a very good thing.

but there will always exist extremists who want to take things to a completely different level.

take a gander at history and see for yourself.

Much as I would not wish to appear to contradict your post and your seperation of the theological and physical charcter Yeshua.

You would agree would you not, that Yeshua was a very popular name and the likellyhood is that there would have been very many of them at the time?
Would you also agree that there were many individuals claiming messianic status around that time ?
