Can people watching sky news keep us up to date

Can do.

Sky are talking about the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline being under threat, basically saying the West pretty much depends on this pipeline not having to deal with Iran.

No basically they are using the threat to the pipeline to get help.
No one wants to help them cos no one wants to start a war with Russia.
So they are using the pipeline to get help.
There is no confirmation of any attacks on the oil pipeline, why the heck would Russia do that they earn tonnes of money from Oil.
No doubt the Georgians will probably blow it up themselves and say the Russians did it.

Agreed.

I find it quite odd that Russia would try to blow up a pipe that would cause more tension with the west and when a section of the pipe was blown up a few days ago too.

How could they miss a motionless target?? Something smells fishy about this...

Russia has been escalating the attacks so nothing is calming down.

Russia would've went after the Pipeline until it was crippled, but didn't - so was likely somthing near it.

Anyway, NATO does not want Russia taking over Georgia, and this seems to be their main goal.

Reuter's link

Also confirmed here. Although they only have info from the Georgian govt. there were explosions heard, so i'm more inclined to believe this one.

REU: Russia waiting till dawn to comence operation
Explosions heard near airport

Actually, they're doing what Israel did to the airport in Beruit. Bombing the airport prevented Iranian Cargo planes from landing there and bringing Hezbollah more supplies.

A popular military strategy. I'm sure Georgia had some Cargo planes coming in with supplies.

Russia is isolating Georgia from the outside world.

Well they are waiting until dawn to commence their operation, which has seen the build up of thousands of troops brought in by sea. So I wouldn't be suprised if this is the last Sunday Georgia shall see

I woudn't either. Once they render Georgia helpless, they'll move in with the convoys.

Will the US/NATO allow Russia to overthrow Georgia's government??

Well they're not doing a damn lot to stop them killing each other. I can't believe the video on Sky News channel that keeps being played. Some guy saying "The West.... needs to understand... it is to blame"

Russia's as much to blame.

The West was helping Georgia. Georgia did not want to be part of Russia.

Russia's goal has been to re-acquire the previous provinces of the Russian Empire.

It's a chess match for a Pawn called Georgia.

Get this too though, if Russia takes-over Georgia, they then will have control of the Caspian pipeline.

This pipeline is of huge signficance to both the EU and the US.

Maybe the Russians are trying a bit of 'regime change' in Georgia?
IMHO they cannot afford to hold Gerogia for good.

Regime change and the installation of a puppet govt. would be most suitable.

It would most definitely invigorate pro-Russian forces/parties in all these breakaways states and dissuade any pro-western parties in these states from future continuation of unabated flirting with the west.

You guys are all-over this story...Kudos

Here is a piece from a Russian news wire. It offers a thumbnail sketch of the respective field/air capabilities. The writer appears to give the tactical edge to smaller the SO forces.

Another interesting article from the same service dated April 28...the month that South Ossetia told Georgia to stuff their power-sharing offer.

Russia may have to fight for Abkhazia and South Ossetia

Valery Kenyaikin, Russia's ambassador at large, said Georgia supported by the West could start a war for Abkhazia and South Ossetia. He said Russia was ready to respond even if Georgia asks NATO assistance.

"In the event of a military conflict, we will have to reply, also using military force," he said on Friday. "If they choose to rely on NATO, hoping that its troops will fight there, we have enough strength to respond." Full Text
