According to Reuters witnesses, Russia sets up checkpoints on the outskirts of Gori, including on a road leading to Tbilisi:

TBILISI, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Russian troops have set up at least two checkpoints on the outskirts of the Georgian town of Gori, witnesses said on Wednesday, in what Georgia said was a breach of a ceasefire.

An eyewitness said Russian troops had advanced south from South Ossetia to occupy an abandoned Georgian artillery base some 4-5 kilometres (2-3 miles) from Gori town centre.

A Reuters cameraman said he had seen a second Russian checkpoint on a road leading east from the town towards the Georgian capital Tbilisi

Thanks, but anyone who can put one and one together has figured that out. Nevertheless it still violates the truce and earlier agreements. Not to mention the postition of the Russian peacekeepers.

Georgia peace deal faltering

The Georgia peace deal is faltering in the face of Russian military dominance.

The EU deal involves both sides retreating to their original positions before fighting began last Friday.

But Georgia reported Russian tanks moving into its key central city of Gori outside the breakaway province of South Ossetia. It also lost its last stronghold in another separatist province, Abkhazia.

Georgian troops had completely pulled out of a small section of Abkhazia which they controlled leaving the entire area in the hands of the Russian-backed separatists.

Abkhazia is now effectively out of Georgian hands and it will take more than an EU peace plan to get it back in.

In central Georgia, about 50 Russian tanks entered Gori. The city of 50,000 sits on Georgia's only significant east-west road and is 15 miles south of South Ossetia.

Russia has handed out passports to most in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and stationed peacekeepers in the both regions since the early 1990s. Georgia wants the Russian peacekeepers out, but Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has insisted they will stay.

Georgia's President Mikhail Saakashvili said Russia's aim all along was not to gain control of two disputed provinces but to "destroy" the smaller nation, a former Soviet state.

Mr Saakashvili said: "They just don't want freedom, and that's why they want to stamp on Georgia and destroy it," he declared.

Russia accused Georgia of killing more than 2,000 people, mostly civilians, in South Ossetia.

LIVE reporter on Sky News right now - he is WITH the Russian army and the South Ossetian militia in Gori. Some civilians have been shot. They have completely overtaken the area.

You just broke some major T&C rules asking people for money

Those aren't T80's with reactive armor like russians are using , and from the back of the tank that has a partially viewable flag, it is Abkhazian. With the green red white, but was laying down so you cant make out the design.

They too rag tag for the russian army , they don't even look like they are exactly invading. People waving from the turret , for all i know it's a pre recorded film.

For all i know it could be georgians sticking a flag on one of their tanks . A couple of old tanks with some obscured flag does not a russian army make .

Still , keep on watching .
