TBILISI, Georgia (AFP)--The Russian airforce attacked a key oil pipeline running through Georgia on Tuesday but there was no word yet on whether it had been damaged, the secretary of Georgia's National Security Council told AFP.
"Russians bombed the BTC pipeline south of the city of Rustavi," said Alexander Lomaia. "We don't know yet whether it was damaged. It's a second attempt to bomb this pipeline since Aug. 10."
Russians appear to be getting only one side of the story of the conflict in Georgia. According to a Moscow Times article, Russian television is showing the misery left by the Georgian assault in South Ossetia, but few, if any, reports mention Russia's bombing of Georgia.
After William Dunbar, a correspondent for the English-language state channel Russia Today, mentioned the bombing in a report on Saturday, his scheduled reports later that day were cancelled by the station. He said: "I felt that I had no choice but to resign."
BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - Georgia is going to brief NATO on Russia's widening military campaign on Georgian territory.
NATO spokeswoman Carmen Romero says Salome Samadashvili, Georgia's envoy to the EU and Belgium, is to address a special session of the NATO ambassadors later Tuesday at the alliance's headquarters in Brussels.
But a high-level meeting between NATO and Russia _ which Moscow requested _ has been delayed, for now, Romero told The Associated Press.
«The meeting (with Russia) will not take place today,» she says. «We need further consultations on when» the meeting can happen.

MOSCOW (AFP)--Russia's armed forces have received an order to stop their advance in Georgia, a senior Russian army commander confirmed Tuesday.
"On August 12 the units supporting peacekeeping forces returned to a defensive mission and in some places in Georgia continue to withdraw their troops," deputy head of the general staff Anatoly Nogovitsyn said in a televised press conference.
