A day back I posted a small question " Do the West and US has the moral rights to aask Russia to stop conflict and Cease Fire" after this

A Russian-drafted UN Security Council statement calling on both Georgia and South Ossetia to renounce the use of force failed to secure British and US backing.

RAPEuted western source :news.bbc.co.uk...

I am not in any intension of entering into an endless debate on what happened on Iraq or Afganisthan ....My question is Ossetia specific

It was the Georgians ,US and WEST who didnot back Russia led UN resolution for peace and cease fire in S Ossetia now do the same powers has the moral rights to seek peace cease fire in Georgia or Ossetia ...What do you call it Double standards ? protection of DemoCRAzY ? or hypocricy ...

Though my question got 6 stars from members but i didnot receive a sinle answer to my question ....There may be 3 reason for my question being not answered

1 My Question is to illogical and stupid to be answered
2 there is no answer to my question for the pro-western posters here.
3 My post was too small to draw attention

What ever may be the case I do believe from the deepest core of my heart that the west has lost its moral rights in context to Ossetia to give advises of Peace and DemoCRAzy .

Ah geeze.. let me scoope my brain off the floor...

Georgia wants proof of Russian military halt

MOSCOW, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Georgia needs more evidence of a Russian halt to military operations and will remain "prepared for everything" until Moscow signs a peace deal, Georgian Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze said on Tuesday.
"We will need more evidence, everyone in this situation needs a signed binding agreement," Gurgenidze told Reuters by telephone from an extraordinary meeting of parliament.
"Until that happens we are mobilised, we are prepared for everything," he said. "I do appreciate it (Medvedev's gesture) but there has been more damage to infrastructure and civilian casualties today."

More proof? Mobilized? "Prepared for everything"? Hmm. That sounds a bit sticky.

i must say i am quite impressed by the russians - its very obvious they have paid attention to the recent wars around the world - in chechnya they got bogged down and it ended up as a bitter slugfest

yet here they are very mobile , and hitting very very hard and moving on - very much similar to what the USA did in Iraq; so its obvious they have learnt and changed tactics accordingly - to bring into the field alot of troops quickly *rapid deployment* , to effectively sweep accross a country destroying military assests and then do what the USA still hasn`t

withdraw quickly - mission achieved.

the georgian pm will go now - he has faced humiliation not only militarily by the russians , but politically by the USA - his support has gone and we won`t see much from him very soon

It's no surprise really, the russians have put censorship on their TV and Radio Stations ever since Yeltsin gave up the presidency. Anything bad about any of the elite or politicians on the TV (which is usually true) and the reporters or managers get axed. Or killed.

Putin has slowly reversed the freedom of speech that the russians had in Yeltsin's era and is now censored by the powers that be. Most Russians only see what Putin wants them to see and they love him so much they believe any crap that comes out of his mouth. Their politicians are all control freaks.

Theres a huge propaganda going on in Russia against Georgians. Ask any young russian living in russia who their number one enemy at the moment is and they will tell you Georgia because thats what they are getting fed and taught. I heard this on the news too. They are only showing what the Georgians have done to South Ossetia, but not what Russia has done to Georgia.

So what is the most dangerous occupation in Russia? Being a Journalist. They have one of the highest rate of journalist deaths in the world. Anna Politkovskaya anyone?

Do you really think Georgia would deliberately provoke Russia into intervening? There would be no surer way of guaranteeing that Georgia would lose South Ossetia - which has now happened

unless georgia believed or even had assurances the usa would come to its aid and bomb russia for them....

[edit on 12/8/08 by Harlequin]

There is logic to that assumption, but the assumption is gigantic. I find it far more likely Russia has been planning this for a long time.

Bear in mind that South Ossetia is part of Georgia, and the Georgian government has the right to deal with the separatist militias without Russia coming in to 'keep the peace' (what a misnomer!).

Yes, Western powers are not whiter than white. The whole situation is nothing more than a continuation of the time-honoured, but pathetic 'Great Game', whereby world leaders deal with entire nations as if they were just playing chess, while ordinary people like you and me who happen to be in the way get blown to pieces, lose our homes and our families. It is only when this stops and nations learn to respect each other and deal with each other in a spirit of cooperation that it will stop. Sadly that goes against human nature...

Tacticly...

The russians did VERY VERY well...
They have some losses in thier air force... Which to me is surprising...

Time will tell realy, but as an observer, they have ran a good campain. Stradegy wise. When i look at google earth, and imagine whats going on, they are doing fine...

The Russians are great warriors, and fighters, no doubt about that.

whe you actually face modern air defences you will take losses - the USA did in 1991 and again in 2003 , and even now planes are getting shot down - although in the case of georgia - saying they got 19 is a bit far fetched - concensus is 4 , inc 2 rece aircraft.

so i think it has come as a surprise , and the US will be sitting back and stroking there beards so to speak , as this is not the russia of even 10 years ago.

watch and learn and move on for the planners

Its the same situation in america, the people only see what the ruling elite want them to and anything that could threaten the status quo is pushed to the side. Pot calling the kettle black? methinks so.

Though S Ossetia is a "disputed " part of Georgia but still I admit that the Georgians hav the rights to invade their teritory and kill approx 2000(ok make it 1000 if you are a proGeorgian ) of her own citizen there ....but Russian do have Rights to be Peace keepers in Ossetia too because their "Peace Keeper" status is not self proclaimed but a recognised status by the UN and Georgia itself after the hostilities in 1990s (Google for links )

Now do Russia has the Rights of protecting her Peacekeepers and Citizens in Ossetia ...Georia has the legal rights Kill 2000(ok again 100o if you are pro Georgian) of her own citizens BUT DO THEY HAVE ANY RIGHTS OF KILLING Russian Citizens in their breakaway republic?

Ahhh, but according to some inital reports, the Russian peacekeepers didn't intervene when S.O. rebels opened fire on Georgian positions.

As said before by someone else, it was a big mistake to have Russian and Georgian peacekeepers there, knowing that neither of them was neutral.

Prelude, i have always apreciated your opinion, and insight into threads over the years...

Its VERY refreshing to see how you see this situation...

And a return question to: " BUT DO THEY HAVE ANY RIGHTS OF KILLING Russian Citizens in their breakaway republic? "

Does Russian have the Right to pass out citizenship to people NOT liveing in Russia? And on such a mass scale?

Are you for real ? It is exactly the opposite.

Are .ge domains banned in Russia or is it the orther way around (.ru domain names banned by the maniac dictator) ?

Don't see much reason to, other than education in (admittedly) slick propaganda, but Russians internet users can read and watch NATO Pact media if they want to. There is no censorship. Infact many of the newspapers are owned by non-Russians (Kommersant, Moscow Times etc). The choice is enormous.

Now look at the NATO Pact UK.

You have a "choice" between the ever-more-preposterous state-run BBC or Murdoch. That's 90% of the media in a country of 60 million people. How dare you talk about Free Media ?

Tell me, is Russia Today available in hotel rooms of NATO Pact countries ? If not, why not. Many US and UK nationals work for Russia Today. Are they all mad ?

As for journalist safety, the journalist death toll in NATO Pact-occupied Iraq is staggering. It is in the hundreds. There numerous archives of US tanks and planes (deliberately ?) firing on reporters.

CNN reports that Russian planes are still bombing.

I don't believe this is a real halt or a cessation, just a ruse to placate diplomats and to further weaken Saakashvilis position.

Many see him as a loose cannon. Standing in front of the EU flag making speeches and dragging Europe into a face off with Russia.

The Russians are being very careful with their strategy, allowing the Georgians to do most of the talking.

Russia is playing him like a fiddle.
