International politics debates are damn funny. Everytime they start they become more and more heated, and people still take it personally if their views are questioned.

Don't let the door... ah never mind.

This is disturbing to say the least. I'm not American, or Russian, nor do I live in either of those parts, but, if this escalates, the entire world can feel it.

This is definitely something I do not want to see go down. If it worsens...I will be prepared.

no. they're NOT funny. but they sure do show some people's inability to cope with those of us who are more intuitive and inquisitive by nature rather than technical and rude. yeah...you keep that door closed. have fun with that.

how you came up with this out of what i said is a pretty damn interesting leap.

Don't worry about it then .

I doubt it is much of a mental leap for most people .

don't worry about it? fine. and you just keep doubting away and making your ridiculous assumptions.

I do not know how you draw out simplicity to these extents . You claim :

ummmm didn't israel kill some UN peacekeepers a couple of summers ago and say "oops...our bad?" i don't recall too many people hankering to invade them for it either. isn't this kind of a risk "peacekeepers" take when they go into an unstable area?

And I say :

So you'll be ok then, when/ if any of the 1000 + US military (advisors) in the area (Georgia) inadvertantly get killed . I bet you won't . You'll be up whining about how US personnel have taken a hit and you need to retaliate .

Now I have to undergo tortuous replies to you based upon you not getting the connection . Listen , it obvious to even the most dim witted the relation of the reply to your question , I am not spending anymore time on you derailing this thread with trivia .

New reports from South Ossetia indicate that fighting has intensified severly again. The Russian armor column is under heavy fire, and reporters have had to leave the area. The Georgian troops are now regrouped. I would expect Russia will send in more troops sometime soon, or risk heavy casualties for the small number currently near Tskhinvalli.

If Saakashvilli wishes to escalate this, he can only hope to win the propaganda war. So far the Western media is playing along with him.

It may be the case the Russians want those 15 republic states back under their control, but they are slowly coming under NATO control, Ukraine, Georgia.
I dont believe everthing I hear on the news, im just saying, at face value the way BBC news reported it, Georgia attacked a city, Russia steps in to help its civilians, and repels artillery positions and bombs airforce base that carried out attacks.
It portrays its helping people that are under attack, in many peoples eyes that would be a good thing.
of course Russia has its own agenda that wont be seen in Media and same said for the West too.
Just saying while all these hidden or not so hidden agendas are going on, normal civilians suffer. and that aint right.

Good points. Russia should stop cease from bombing Georgia's country though if it intends only to defend and beat-back Georgian forces engaged in fighting separatists of the break-away province.

If Russia continues to hammer Georgia, look for the US and Europe (NATO) to be on the spot as what to do next.

You are 100% correct in that NATO is basically the New World Order military. Russia does not want to be part of the West's plans for a New World Order (neither does China).

This is what will spark the next World War.

There was someone .. a John Pike from global security :

Organization whose mission is to be a reliable source of background information and developing news stories in the fields of defense, space, intelligence, WMD, and homeland security.

Not sure what weight they carry in the US , saying Saakashvili can more or less forget about joining Nato now .

I hope not, but the big picture makes it likely this could cause a world war if Russia dont pull out .
If NWO is true, then it will cause World war 3

"Why is not the U.S. calling for a ceasefire? Why is it continuing to supply Georgia with more weapons than the small country knows what to do with?"

Because they are currently planning how to engage Iran... Israel is ready.
U.S. wants to wait it out, but as we all know this is just a stalled process...
Deal with them now or grovel with them in the future...

Honestly does every single major world event have to center on Iran? Iran is nothing. It's an annoying speck of dust that is desperately trying to defend itself.

There are things going on in the world besides U.S. and its War on Terror and ambitions for Iran. Not everything has to come back to Iran. I am sorry, but it's like most Westerners and Americans have ADD. First its Al-Quida - everything everywhere involves Al-Quida. Then its North Korea. Then its Syria. Then its Iran. This phenomenon is perplexing to me. Maybe if I lived in the U.S. I would understand.

NEWS UPDATE:

Stream of fresh news is coming in. It looks like it is going to get worse before it gets better.

CNN reports Russian air strikes against the Georgian Black Sea port of Poti. Targets of the strikes are yet unkown. The port is now a major military and economic hub, and Russians could have been targeting one of several things. It could be just a strike against Georgian military formations, although I would assume there isn't much there as Georgia has dispatched everything to the North. It is likely the economic infrastructure involving the Caspial pipeline (which is an extremely important geopolitical tool for Georgia). This will cause major U.S. tensions with Russia, and worsening foreign relations. But I wouldn't run for the bomb shelter yelling WW3 - no need to turn a crisis into a cataclysm. There is enough misinformation as it is.

Tbilisi's government building are indeed evacuated, but so far no concrete confirmation of any air strikes there. I wasn't able to get a hold of my friend in Tbilisi. Martial Law may have been declared already. I am hoping communication lines aren't cut by the Georgians.

RIA News reports that Russia is starting to carry out a large scale operation in South Ossetia. Russian army death toll is up to 15. Major movement is reported by Russian divisions in North Ossetia. An unconfirmed report states that Russia may close off entry into the conflict zone from Russia (to prevent North Ossetian volunteers from entering the war zone I suppose). However refugees are still free to enter from South Ossetia.

Tskhinvali is still unable to be evacuated, and for unknown reasons Russian troops still haven't reached the city. Georgia reports that its forces are again occupying the city - hinting at a counterattack to the Russian counterattack. I have a feeling we are going to see a lot of back and forth movements with retreats followed by counter attacks in the coming days. At least untill Russia can channel more troops towards Tskhinvali. Electricity and communication lines to the city are completely cut. Journalists cannot get through to find out exactly what is happening.

Civilians in the city are still hiding in shelters. There is no chance to help the wounded and dieing in the streets. South Ossetian government reports that Georgia has just started to shell the city again.

South Ossetian government has held a first meeting after reorganizing. Besides issuing blame for Georgia and calling for international support and all that fun stuff, they have discussed declaring outright independence. I predict Russia will pressure them against this - since it could reinvigorate Georgia's efforts.

South Ossetian fighters are now entranched in defensive positions, and most regions are seeing renewed engagement taking place at these positions. Again this hints at Georgia's renewed attack after innitial retreat.

Civilians are reportedly arming themselves and engaging Georgian troops in several villages.

Destroyed Georgian BMPs with soldiers' bodies scattered around them have been spotted South of Tskhinvali.

This will not end soon. However Georgian army must be running low on manpower now, and much of it appears to be scattered around Tskhinvali and largely unorganized. It will not be able to wage war for long without national mobilization. This will cause public unrest in Georgia no doubt, as few want to fight Saakashvilli's war.

Communism before that . They have to hate on somebody . It is an integral part of their upbringing in a way . I wonder sometimes what social scientists will make of it , 50 or so years from now . The deliberate dumbing down and low standard education the constant injection of hate/distrust for a targeted group/religion . The americans have been terribly cheated in a way .

NEW UPDATE:

South Ossetia reports second Gergian attack aircraft (SU-25 I assume?) has been shot down. Awkward, given that I thought Russia has established air superiority over the conflict region. Perhaps this is a false report.

The source is in Russian.

Russians are sending the 76th airbourne division , does not say its purpose . They are saying they have supressed the Georgian ' firing stations' firing on Tskhinvali, and at the moment it is not under attack.

Capital is destroyed say the SO , no water or power supplies.

Reports of Georgia attempting to hit russian humanitarian/rescue transport for wounded Tskhinvali civilians .

Death Toll up to 1600 ( in Tskhinvali )

Estimate 30,000 have crossed into russia .. refugees .

Hundreds of (alive )children still under the debris of the capital . Not saying how they reach that estimate .

More reports on the forced conscription 18-50 , family hiding them.

Live press conference in a min from the Russian Defence ministry .

76th is an elite division they are saying, special forces, para's .

Massive Russian tank attack , 20 units .. does not say if regiments etc, so I do not know , military people can interpret that .

Georgian tanks firing on russian peacekeepers. Under constant fire . Does not say if this was previous news, sounds like it might be. They keep mentioning the 76th airbourne .

They say they lost 2 aircraft , do not state anymore on that , except 250308 if that means anything, a type number ?

That is all

SO are saying they are now fully Liberated , supported by russian special troops .

(removed of georgian forces in capital )

The BBC, that well know agenda driven propoganda mouthpiece even admits it has been wrong in it's earlier reports . < not my source>

On the subject of the western media coverage , the russians have called it :

Dishonourable

And they are absolutely correct

The more I read about the georgian president the more I wonder who really pulls his strings,Russia is in the process of bombing Georgia back to the dark ages and it seems his good buddies W and NATO bailed on him when they realised The Russians won't be playing games.
