I haven't read all the replies here so forgive me if someone's covered this or we moved on.
One user mentioned that China is poised to invade from Mexico and Cuba. That may well be true, however this would be a fatally flawed attack plan.
The southern United States is probably the most heavily defended part of the country as far as conventional attacks go. I don't think the Eastern or
Western coasts are much less defended either, but the border and southern coasts are like a meat grinder.
Without enough air power to come in and knock out our air power before it leaves the ground, any ground attack, with as many men as they wanted to
send, would fail. I don't know that China, even with allies would be able to mount a pre-ground attack air offensive here as we have done in Iraq
twice now. We would know too early that they were coming barring some catastrophic failure a la pearl harbor.
In the event they conventionally attack via the south they would be met by the strategically placed A-10 squadrons in Arizona which would destroy any
armor coming up from mexico. Any air accompanying these troops would be eliminated as well by our air defenses and scrambled fighters, which we have,
in abundance across the entire south side of the country.
Forget about the gulf coast as well, I don't even want to count the bases there or numbers of aircraft that yes, we still have in the united states.
Even while dealing with Afghanistan and Iraq we have plenty of air power to deal with any attacks on our soil. At my base alone, in just one type of
aircraft, we have more than 80 planes which can be armed and in the air in a matter of hours.
The Chinese will have to do more than just come at us with men and machines. It will take unconventional tactics to get into our country. While we
are excellently defended against normal attacks, we are and always will be vulnerable to terrorist style attacks. It would take very little to
disrupt operations in a localized area and would take quite some planning to disrupt a large enough area to open a window for China's war machine to
roll into the US and begin taking over.
I could talk about how but I'd rather nobody know our weaknesses if they don't know already.
