I haven't read all the replies here so forgive me if someone's covered this or we moved on.

One user mentioned that China is poised to invade from Mexico and Cuba. That may well be true, however this would be a fatally flawed attack plan. The southern United States is probably the most heavily defended part of the country as far as conventional attacks go. I don't think the Eastern or Western coasts are much less defended either, but the border and southern coasts are like a meat grinder.

Without enough air power to come in and knock out our air power before it leaves the ground, any ground attack, with as many men as they wanted to send, would fail. I don't know that China, even with allies would be able to mount a pre-ground attack air offensive here as we have done in Iraq twice now. We would know too early that they were coming barring some catastrophic failure a la pearl harbor.

In the event they conventionally attack via the south they would be met by the strategically placed A-10 squadrons in Arizona which would destroy any armor coming up from mexico. Any air accompanying these troops would be eliminated as well by our air defenses and scrambled fighters, which we have, in abundance across the entire south side of the country.

Forget about the gulf coast as well, I don't even want to count the bases there or numbers of aircraft that yes, we still have in the united states.

Even while dealing with Afghanistan and Iraq we have plenty of air power to deal with any attacks on our soil. At my base alone, in just one type of aircraft, we have more than 80 planes which can be armed and in the air in a matter of hours.

The Chinese will have to do more than just come at us with men and machines. It will take unconventional tactics to get into our country. While we are excellently defended against normal attacks, we are and always will be vulnerable to terrorist style attacks. It would take very little to disrupt operations in a localized area and would take quite some planning to disrupt a large enough area to open a window for China's war machine to roll into the US and begin taking over.

I could talk about how but I'd rather nobody know our weaknesses if they don't know already.

How about some references? I have gathered those pictures from all over the web in this People's Liberation Army album. It will show you how advanced they really are and this is only what they are willing to show.

picasaweb.google.com...

Bellow are some links where you can gather some more intelligence informations about the Chinese army.

www.sinodefence.com...

www.globalsecurity.org...

www.defencetalk.com...

Chinese military over the past has copied alot of designs (Russian Tanks, Russian Planes, Russian Choppers, etc). Doing the same with economics (Stealing or buying designs). They have the productivity they only needed some more brains.

I think now that they reached a point where they can be sucessfull with their own design. Sure they will keep taking the best from other country but don't be fooled by that patriotic propaganda that USA would own China that's untrue.

They had close to no navy a couples years back and now they are going to surpass Russia. China has the biggest production capacities and the biggest growth rate in economy and military if they keep going at the current rate well no wonders they will be the superpower number 1.

I just hope for the sake of humanity that this won't turn into a global confilct if it ever happends.

Regards Dio.

No one gets it. It would be a nuclear Holocaust. Foot soldiers would come after in Radiation suits. The government has been itching to fire these babies off. You don't think china has Nuclear Capabilities, you are sadly mistaken.

In China, there is a dangerous trend that more and more Chinese hate USA.
why? because USA declared to prevent China from the reunification with Taiwan.
that is not the hatred between autarchy and democracy, but hatred between two
people.
But there is a smart idea to solve this problem:
USA encourages Taiwan to reunite with China at the precondition
of China's democratic reform.
I believe most of Chinese will welcome it.
and communist government will have to accept it under the pressure of public.
then Chinese get not only an unified country but also a democratic country,
and USA gets a great friend.
then no war any more.

Well.
They are probly getting ready to take the dinosaur called USA out of the equation.
It will most likely be started with a massive dumping of the American Dollar of which they hold ALOT of.
Then an attack.
And all patriotism aside they still outnumber us by alot.
Weep for the future.

Far easier for them to just cut our collective heads off IMHO.
I would imagine it serves the people at the top in China alot better as well.
And since America is soooooo out of it.
We will find our backs against the wall with very few nations willing to help us because of our own actions.
Karmic revenge at its best and most nasty.

Chinas military (while incredibly flawed) is simply modernizing, while preparing for a possible attack on Taiwan.

As for china becoming "superpower #1".

Let me show you what DARPA and the pentagon have been working on in the form of "updating" their military.

DARPA video.

Google Video Link

The end result, Full spectrum domination over any current, or potential adversary's.

The US, is simply to far ahead.

Hmmm...if you flippped this story over to the Chinese angle, it could just as easily read 'US is preparing for War...testing anti-missile technology..blah, blah, blah...'

These days, unfortunately, everyone is preparing for war. That said - it has been going on since 1945....

Well, I'm a Chinese living in Beijing
I don't see any intention that China wants to attack USA
on the contrary USA always declares to intervene in China's reunification
Your policy on this issue not only insults communist government but also
1.3 billion Chinese people.

Well seeing how the people of Taiwan don't want to "reunify" that is be re-invaded by China. I tend to agree with America's policy of helping them.
Rather like Tibet in that case you people invade and then spout how you have a right to be there.

I guess that must be why you recognise Kosovo and make chaos there.
In China, 95% of Chinese believe Taiwan and Tibet are parts of China
no matter whether they pro-communist or not. so if USA insist on
"help" Taiwan, or support Tibet's independence, we Chinese will regard
USA as our enemy, and I have to remind you that China is not Serbia,

In China, 95% of Chinese

Doesn't matter what Chinese the people think is their land. By that line of thinking Europe was rightfully the Nazi's. You people have a conqueror's mindset. Always caring more about what you think is yours rather than what is truly yours.

Bet you would really not like it if the Japanese decided China was rightfully theirs.

I care what the Tibetan and Taiwanese people think more than their invaders.

So it is very clear that the divarication between Chinese and American
will never be consentaneous in this regard.
So Americans don't feel surprise if China promote its military power
because in future we must get the capacity not only to defeat Taiwan's
evil ambition to split China, but also we must prepare for an all out war with a rascal hegemony who is always interested in spliting other countries.

Evil ambition to split China?!??!?!??!
They want independence for their island.
You've been listening to slightly too much propaganda especially if your going to tell me that tripe.
So next does the world become part of an evil scheme to keep China from rightfully taking it over????

Of course not,
I can fully understand the aspiration of USA to split other countries
No one want a strong rival, right?
If China one day exceed USA and becommes top power in the world,
I believe China will do the same.
I think we will provoke Mexico to get back the territory robbed by force.
we will fund Hawaii independence movement.
we will encourage Russian to redeem Alaska
we will persuade south part of USA that they should separate from north.
we will support American native Indian to take back all territory belong to them.
.......
don't worry, that day will come sooner or later.

Funny thing about the future.
You never can tell.
But go ahead and be a good Chinese Patriot. Some of us realize there is more than nationalism.

It is your USA's behavior triggered the hatred between the two people.
made more and more democracy-loving people converted to Patriot or even
nationalist in China.
USA's behavior severely damaged the reputation of freedom and democracy.
