As a matter of fact we have not. I have a friend that has done this for me before, but not at this house. We had a prayer meeting here (this friend was not there for that), but I really should ask him to come over and do this.

I wish you luck....I may have missed it in the thread, if so I apologize, but have you just said..."Get out" " we don't want you here if you can't live in harmony" Also works.....sometimes.....

Yes, springer did this...it seemed to work for a while.

Okay, here is a floorplan of the first floor with the two doors marked where the activity has been here recently:

The side door on the right hand side is where the incident happened this morning. As an important note, this is the same door that the very first strange thing happened at - when my grandson waved at something and then bust out bawling and rubbing his eyes...he was looking at this door.

It would be interesting to see if he will do it. No offence, but the sight of the house gives me the creeeeepy vibes.

Hey, there's no need to drag phreak_of_nature into this.

Again, very creepy.

On a more positive note, your house is adorable--lots of character. I see why you guys are willing to put so much work into it.

Any chance you could repost the audio clips? All of the links I've tried are dead

Okay, i'm going to try this. It's the first time I've linked to a file on my new server, so bear with me. If this does not work for others, let me know and I'll try to figure out what I did wrong.

This first one is my original digital recording of my audial recording:

www.thedivinesibyl.com...

This second one is one that I believe some one tweeked and then passed to me. I don't remember who, probably can go back through this thread and find out:

www.thedivinesibyl.com...

Of all the "tweeked" versions, I believe catherder's (which is back up in the thread a few pages) is the most intriguing and concerning to me. But he has never come back and replied on my enquiries to it.

Val -- I freely admit that I'm hopeless at this sort of thing. I *never* hear the voices or whatever on recordings that everyone else seems to hear. That said, this just sounds like a door opening and footsteps, to me.

Of course, if no one is supposed to be around at the time this was recorded, that's *plenty* weird, all on its own.

Right, I understand. And short of catherder's "tweeked" version, I have never claimed to hear any words...I DO hear something in his though.

WAAAAAAAY back in this thread, when this recording is first made this is explained, but because so much time has gone by I will re-explain.

1. NO ONE was home.

2. There is an initial significant recording which is a big thunderstorm that is recorded a couple of days before the important "event".

3. The important event is the thing you are describing as a "squeaky door" or such. Nope...it's no squeaky door.

4. The footsteps you hear are footsteps...coming up the stairs.

Now, concerning the weird sound. If you review the thread the night I came home from work (with my daughter) and played the tape and heard the sound, we spent 30 minutes opening and closing every door in the house, every drawer in the house, and even went down stairs (where the closest wood floors were) and pushed every piece of furniture we could, to try to duplicate the sound. WE COULDN'T EVEN ACTIVATE THE RECORDER!!! We could not make a noise either upstairs or downstairs loud enough to make the voice activated recorder kick on.

So we spend 30 minutes running around the house trying to make this sound and then two women show up and here are me and my daughter looking like we're scared sh!tless and we start explaining to them what we are doing and right in the middle of our conversation the speaker phone comes on by itself and here's this dial tone just belching through the house! The two women "left promptly".

I've read through the entire thread (I *told* you it's one of my favorites!), and I recall the original posts about this. I've heard theories that "hauntings" are just impressions of things that happened at an earlier time; maybe this explains the sound of the door opening and the footsteps?

Frankly, I wouldn't be nearly as concerned about the sounds on the recorder as I would the sightings by Springer and your grandson.

I'll tell you the things that have been most "concerning???" so far:

1. the incident with my grandson - that was scary
2. the incident with my son and his friend - I didn't experience this, but I could tell how much it upset them and that was concerning to me
3. the incident with the movement and activity in the attic culminating with the attic door starting to open
4. the incident with the phone where the buttons were being pushed and the phone was laying buttons up on my daughter's bed and "on"...

Those are the four main incidences that have really scared me. And the night of the attic was the very most terrifying. I was so scared I really didn't know what to do.

The deal with Springer was that the dogs didn't seem to sense anything, and that is the reason I completely thought that it was all hallucination due to the high fever, illness and meds. But then the dogs freaking later in the night at the same door stymied me. If the dogs had started freaking while he was seeing "it" that would have placed it on the list for sure! LOL

Valhall,

I've been reading your thread with an intense interest for the last couple of hours (with the exception of an IE error) and wish I could keep on reading into the morning hours, but unfortunately, 0500 HRS will be upon me shortly, since I'm on the east coast.

It's my promise read the entire thread. I've had wierd things happen to me concerning my mother when she was still alive, but I'll go into that later.

As for now, I'm hooked on this thread.

Good night to you, Springer and the rest of your family. May it be a peaceful and uneventful night (nothing strange happening). Talk at you all on the morrow!

I had to bring this thread back out!

Very strange things happening to fellow ATS members (Valhall and Springer) and their family!

Waiting to hear any updates and wanting to read other theories!

Could it be a cache of cash buried in the basement?

You know how old-timers are with their money and banks!

First, my apologies to certain members because this weekend I had hoped to do EVP recordings with non-human language white noise...but we had a VERY busy weekend.

The following event is going to be called The Case of the Missing Cannonball

I'm going to step through this in detail. First thing you need to know is that Springer is almost deaf and has extreme tinnitus (i.e. he hears static white noise like on a TV tuned to an unreceptive channel 24 hours a day). The only time he can hear well is when he has his hearing aide in, which also helps decrease the tinnitus.

Yesterday morning we just kind of laid around in bed for a while (Springer didn't have his hearing aide in yet). I can't tell you how quiet this little town is and yesterday morning it was cloudy and rainy and so it seemed even quieter than normal. So I say to Springer:

"Can you believe how quiet it is in the mornings?"
Springer says: "I'll have to take your word for it."
I say: "Oh, yeah, all you can hear is static."
He says: "24 hours a day"
I say: "There is not a single sound outside right now."

And I didn't hardly get that statement finished when it sounded like a cannonball hit the front corner of the house. The corner where my daughter's room is. It was so loud that both Springer and I jumped out of bed at the same time (kind of like that scene in Trains, Planes and Automobiles - how 'bout them Bears!) and we both go "WTF was that!" almost at the same time.

Here are the things that are weird that lead me to believe this HUGE sound was not a physical sound (i.e. not a material object impacting another material object):

1. My daughter was asleep in her room at the time, and my 3 year old grandson asleep in the back bedroom - neither was woke up and my daughter later answered the question "Didn't you hear that?" with "No."

2. The dogs, both of which were downstairs, never barked. Please remember when the banging at the side door happened they were all over that, and they are always all over any noise around the house. Springer and I immediately started out of our bedroom to find what it was, as we headed out the bedroom door I heard both dogs "stir" (get up and come running across the downstairs) and they came up the stairs and met us. So they had been still laying down until they heard us open the bedroom door...which is exactly how they act every morning.

3. We found NOTHING in my daughter's room, or outside the house. When I heard the dogs moving downstairs after we opened the bedroom door, my first thought was that maybe they had knocked something over downstairs and that even though the sound seemed to come from the top northwest corner of the house, maybe it transmitted from downstairs - nothing was knocked over.

4. This is significant as well - the windows did not vibrate. This sound was so HUGE that if it had been an impact, it would have caused at least the windows to shake...you would have "felt" it...but we didn't "feel" it, we just heard it.

Now, the only thing we didn't do was go up in the attic...but there's nothing in the attic - well, there shouldn't be anything in the attic - that could fall and make a HUGE sound like what we heard.

Later in the day Springer brought the event back up and stated "you know what was really weird? the fact that you had just got through saying 'there's not a single sound outside' and then BOOM!"

**scratches head and walks away baffled**

WHOOP WHOOP - major Eureka moment...

From this same thread, posted by me on 10/27/03:

Well, quite a respite, huh? There has been nothing at all odd happen in my house since the last time I reported such...

until last night.

I went to bed about 11:30 and just about the time I was falling asleep was awakened by a sound in my attic..a BIG sound! I have never heard anything in the attic before.

So this wakes me from partial sleep and I have that confusion of "did I just get woke up by something? or start having a dream?" I instantly decide the latter and never fully wake up when another BIG sound comes from the attic. For the next 30 minutes plus I lived through repeated bumps-in-the-night-stuff. With the most frightening part being when the springs on the pull-down door to the attic started creaking like some one was starting to open it
HELLO!

The only thing that we have done in the past few days that is different is Springer got up in the attic Saturday and enclosed the screened louvers in the widow's watch for the winter. We leave them uncovered for the summer so that we can run the attic fan on cooler days and then of course it was time to cover them so we wouldn't lose heat for the winter.

I tried hard to make myself believe that I was hearing an animal up there, but if so it was intent on moving things around...kind of large things.

It was freaky! I actually was scared enough I wanted to come get back on line and tell somebody...but the attic door is between my bedroom and the computer room! HA!

Guess what - there is a common point between that occurrence (which started with a LOUD sound in the attic and what happened yesterday morning. Last year at that time Springer was still going back to Dallas every Sunday. That weekend he had gone up and closed off the widow's watch. After he left for Dallas is when this happened to me - after the widow's watch was closed off.

Guess what Springer did this past week? He closed off the widow's watch.

What could this mean???

Ok...I'm a bit confused here. You "know" you have some type of apparition in your home with maybe some poltergeist activity...what exactly is it that you are wanting know? When we knew what you now know, we called in mediums to asses and walk our home. We learned there were seven apparitions in our home, one of them being a small child. Ours was an easier situation though because they were not shy about who saw or heard them.....at any time they would make themselves known regardless of who was around, family, friends or anyone else. What are you wanting to learn? Have you researched your home? It's history, past owners. I have not had the time to read all of your theards...what about old objects being brought into the home? Jewelry, pictures or frames.....anything..

An old house that i used to live in (the house of my neck twisting awaking)
was otherwise normal but for two particular rooms. The worst was a spare room, which became known as "the spooky room". It was just a room, but everyone, visitors alike, got the most cold (not physically) and horrible feeling while in it, without anything being said. The other was an old kitchenett which became my bedroom, here there was no "feeling" but strange things occured, such as snoring coming from there while it was empty, and my radio turning itself on night after night. This became the cause of a huge fight between an indignant tennage me, and my family who beleived i was doing it deliberatly. I slept on the lounge for night with that room locked and the only key in possession of my sister, and sure enough, the radio turned itself on, late at night, everyone got up very cranky with me only to discover me on the lounge and ofcourse the door still locked. The radio could be heard loudly through the door and we all were there when my sister unlocked it, only to have the radio fall silent as she turned the doorknob.
Another night a big white flash went through the house from the back door, up the hall and out through the front door (closed) accompanied by a harsh angry scream, which had us all up and mighty disturbed.
I have no explanation for these phenomena, and its the only phenomena of its type ive experienced. Odd perfume smells were also about from time to time.

p.s. Valhall, how much are you willing to take, honestly my nerves couldnt take it! will you move out when your daughters head is spinning 360 and shes projectile vomiting?

seriously, i wish you and yours all the best.

LadyV,

Yes, I have researched the history of the house, and have also had two lengthy phone conversations with the granddaughter of the original builder of the house (she lived in the house for several years when she was a child). She is the one that was able to tell me the year it was built - 1897. This comes from the letters she has that were written by her grandfather to her grandmother while he was in Indian Territory and his wife was still back East. He speaks of building the house and wishing she was there to help him.

I have the full abstract of the land, and there are a couple of posts in this thread that go over the characters involved.

When you ask "what do I want to know?" do you mean from whatever may be in my house? or from the members of ATS?

I'll answer both ways: From the members of ATS - I don't particular want to know anything other than input from people who have experience in this area, and to have as much speculation as possible on what is occurring - that way I have the symbiosis of several instead of getting tunnel vision on my own. As far as the house - I just want to learn if there is something that is needed from me - an action, something I should find, or learn of (was there violence? is there something I can do that will bring peace to the spirit? etc.). It is a curious thing to me and I just want to know if there is something I should know that will help.

My daughter brought up an interesting concept this morning on our drive to her school. I told her I had realized that we now had had two instances of a loud noise in the upper part (attic?) of the house over a year apart and that the common link had been Springer closing off the widow's watch. She said "Maybe it's afraid of the dark."

In the summer, when we use the attic fan and the widow's watch for ventilation, the sunlight comes in through the louvers of the widow's watch shutters, but when Springer closes it off for the winter, it's pitch dark 24 hours a day up there.

Something worth considering!

Then I told that to Springer and his response was: "Maybe it's a widow watching for her loved one and when I close the watch she can no longer watch for him."

hmmmm...that's intriguing too!

You might be able to 'make peace' with your 'spirit' by installing a clear storm window for the winter.....that would allow it to see out and let the light in.

Facinating thread.....I love old houses, especially the haunted ones. I am trying to restore the 1905 (I think) vic that I grew up in...it never seemed haunted then, but I have had a lot of nightmares about it since we started the work!!?

Can you post pictures??

This picture was taken ca. 1906:

This is the back of the house, taken in the summer of 2002 (about 9 months before we bought it):

This is the front of the house as taken in February 2003 (right before we bought it):

And this is the back in February 2003:

This picture was taken last month with the improvements to date (bushes gone, new windows, all porch posts redone and porch trim stripped and repainted - we're waiting on the new front door and once we have it in we start completely residing the lower part of the house. Then we'll move above the porch roof, replace windows and keep going with the siding - and on the story goes...)

It has a much more cheerful look now than it did in 1906! Your 'haint' should be gratefull!

It looks like some of the owners before you had made some changes from the 1906 photo. If the 'haint' didn't like changes in general, it should have already been disturbed.....the attic window closing might have been what it objected to.

That tree in the back that's so gnarly has character, hope you keep it!

Beautiful house, though. I'd tell that 'entity' (or whatever) that I loved it just as much as she did, and she'd have to learn to share it. Good luck!
