and then we have committed to go T.P. the house of the first one to chicken-out and leave.

one girl's bringing Depends just in case...

As with people, if there is a spirit, you might as well exorcise it now. It might be pushing you so that it will be forced to "move on."

The problem is, most people just don't understand. The age of a home has nothing to do with entity activity, other than things can build up over time. I have been on plenty of investigations where the home was more haunted than my own (remember, my home is about 115 years old) and these homes were brand new, as in within a year.

There are so many factors that can lead to a home being haunted to varying degrees. The land could be battle or burial ground. It could be that it was a trail to get somewhaere that many died along (Oregon trail or any other trail used by Native Americans to "escape" the whiteman).

Other things like murder in a home that is 15 or 20 years old. Someone dying of old age in a home. There are so many factors, and people just overlook normal things as possibilities. There have been some really good articles on the subject, and the following is the best I have read, and it is by a local investigator, and someone I consider a friend.

Many people have always believed that you may find ghostly activity at only "specific" locations known for such occurrences, and yet the reality is, spirits will be found almost anywhere and at anytime, day or night, regardless of whatever season!

Well, my little doggy has not been having any freak out moments for quite some time now, until last night. I almost left the house on this one.

As I've relayed there were a three or so nights right after I got the dog that he would wake up in the middle of the night and start growling while looking at my bedroom door (which also provides a clear line of sight to my daughter's door).

After the safety pin incident in my daughter's room, I finally spoke with my daughter about the situation. I had not done so before because I didn't want to plant my own concerns in her mind, but she brought it up on a drive to school in the next few days after the safety pin thing happened.

We were just driving along and all of a sudden she said, "I wonder if the ghost is following ME around?" I asked her what she meant and she referenced the safety pin incident and the phone incident, both which occurred in her room. It was at this point that I talked to her about my concerns that it might be true. I explained to her that girls her age seem to some times be a spiritual target, and I asked her to start praying for protection and that I would be also doing that.

There has been no incident with the dog since that day...until last night. BUT, the difference between last night and every night since that day is that last night I was totally alone in the house. My daughter was spending the night with a friend.

The dog woke me up growling AND barking. I came out of my sleep pushing him and hushing him, but as soon as I got woke up good, I, of course, stopped that. This is the most "excited" the dog has reacted since living here. He was sitting up and growling and barking at the door. He would growl and bark and then look at me and back at the door. At one point, he actually jerked backwards, like he was getting ready to get in an attack position or something. It was at this point that I seriously considered getting up, getting dressed, grabbing my little doggy and going to my parents' home. It really was scary.

Here's my question: Could it be that the prayers of protection around my daughter are silencing the activity when she is in the house, but when she is gone it comes back?

Just a thought.

P.S. Regarding the conversation that took place in the car with my daughter. I just realized I didn't share why she brought this up. Right after I got my doggy he was doing something strange. Every morning when me and him would get up, he would sit at the computer room door and growl toward my daughter's bedroom door. Also, when she would get up and start getting ready for school (i.e. moving around her room and in between her room and the upstairs bathroom, he would sit in the same position and growl at her). BUT, he never ONCE growled at her when downstairs, only upstairs. That day in the car she started talking about this and her comment was "I wonder if the dog sees something following me around?" And the conversation went from there. The dog does not growl at her door in the mornings anymore, nor does he ever growl at her at all. BUT, to this day, he has not stopped growling at my son.

Okay i feel quite bad for your daughter she must be scared stiff! but you did the right thing in telling her that the spirit may want her attention. i have to say that praying does help, i had problems with a spirit in my house and i would pray that me my friends and family are kept safe if it is an evil spirit and that it helps the spirit find peace! and it worked. I havent experienced anything to do with the spirit since i started praying.

I think it would be a good idea to possibly get a new dog as well as your present one to keep an eye on your little girl, that or let your dog sleep in her room for protection. The spirit used to drive my dog mental it is freaky when the dog stares and generally goes berserk but it is comforting having that sort of protection so i would give that some seious thought!

but i must say i dont envy your situation it must be very frightening!

What's the breed and how is its behavior outside the "ghosts." How does it handle human strangers?

This is a very interesting read. Read first 8 pages last night and continued the last 8 pages after i had breakfast.

A haunted house...well everyone has one to some degree. I for excample see a little girl at times, but she's friendly. My aunt said that she seen an old man with a walking stick sitting on the couch next to my dad once. - probably my grandfather whome my dad never talks about.

In your case Val...it's freaky. Like you I'd investigate it and let my curiosity take over. Personally I'm not frightened quickly and when I felt a tug on my bed I just wave it off or pretend to be asleep. Ignoring probably won't work with what is going on in your house.

1. Your two year old son smiling and waving before crying,
2. Regular activities with large time intervals,
3. The history of the people who lived there before,
4. Only females and young boys kill themselves,
Freaky is an understatement...especially since I got an odd feeling when reading some posts and looking at some images. I'm still new to this myself so I'm sorry that I can't pin point what is what.

Here is what I think after what you shared with us. Original owners were rather odd, but nothing massive important. Second owner was the grocer who was a drunk and abusive and did things with meat that wasn't considered as normal. He is the one that started the trouble. He dislikes women and kids. Thats probably why only you, your daughter and now your son are being affected by it. I also think that this grocer ghost lingers around and manipulated the librarians that lived before you. The grocer managed to reach the librarians during their sleep and scared em senseless. Or the librarians just couldn't cope with things, but why didn't they just leave then?

Then there lingers one or more others entities who seem to be more friendly. Warning you for possible causes of death, like the electric wiring.

I also believe that when the phone goes and no one is there. It is in fact one of the entities trying to get your attention. Either trying to warn you (as one of the ground rules) or just feeling lonely and need someone to talk with.

Having a dog is good, but personally I'd try to get one or two more. Try breeds that like a fight and don't back off easily. Shephards, boxers, pittbulls etc...try boxers, they're insane in the hand. Real fun Would be funny to put a small camera on the dogs head before you go to sleep. Then he can patrol and record everything hehe "hey doggy, I expect a written report wiht footage on my desk in the morning"

But I think the aggresive ghost, grocer, is gaining strenght. And he's pushing you as well. I mean there is a rule that was laid down that he could not enter any bedrooms. Still he's coming as close as he can.

Your daughter, and now your son, are basicly being stalked. Not sure if this is the grocer trying to connect with them or if it's one of those friendlier ghosts.

There has only been isolated incidences of things that have been easily explained away in the past couple of months. Mainly things coming up missing and then reappearing right where they should have been all along, and were looked for. At one point, it was so exasperating (because it was a new prescription of medicine my daughter must have) that I started crying and asked my son to search his girlfriend's purse for it. It had been in a special tray in the kitchen. Then it had disappeared. Then it was right back where it should be. Then it came up missing again (at which time I asked that he see if it was in his girlfriend's purse). Then it finally showed up in a very illogical place that no one with any sense would have put it. Every single pill was in the bottle when found.

BUT, my son has started having a nightmare, that he has had two times now. First time was several weeks ago. Second time was last night. It is "progressing" in terror, but a similar dream. The weird thing is that last night I had a terrible time getting to sleep. I went to bed at between 11 and 11:30 and the last time I looked at the clock it was 1:35...that was right after my son's voice woke me up saying "Mom?"...and there was no one there. I set up and looked all around the room and there was no one there. It bothered me so bad I couldn't go back to sleep for quite some time.

I think things are starting up again.

Sounds to me like it is time to call in the professional ghost busters, most of them will descend on your house willingly with all types of sensitive detection equipment. Or Bob Villa to renovate I have also always felt that cats were better indicators of weird things going on around them, much more sensitive than dogs. Birds are even better.
In closing I am very saddened that your children seem to be bearing the brunt of these unexplainable events, my prayer's and thought's go out to them.

i believe that the best method of protection from spirits, ghosts, etc. is to visualise a bright light forming a shield around you and engulfing the whole room/house with the warm, bright rays of the light. It boosts your confidence, evil entinties are afraid of this light and also it is not hard to imagine. It has helped me numerous times. And also remember, darkness is as great as you perceive it to be. In other words, if you think that darkness is all powerfull and undeafeatable then it shall be like that. If you think that it is as small as a bug that can be squished with your foot then it shall be like that. remember, when imagining the engulfing light, remind yourself that you follow the path of God and the light

Yes, this is true beebo. Shielding (white light method) can be quite helpful. One must remember though, you can become vulnerable if the shield is bombarded to heavily, and it is not something you can expect to become good at after two or three tries.

I sure am appreciating the recent really good suggestions. My son has not had the dream again in the past few days, but I will let you know if he does and the progression. I plan to share the details with IAP in an email as soon as I can get some free time, then I'll decide if I want to share them here yet.

Look starting at the bottom left of the picture on the back well, about halfway between that and the door, about what would be about 8 inches up in the perspective of the spacing. I see 4 dark dots, and an outline of a cartoonish womans head.

Thanks. I'll pull the pic into something I can look at that area better. Nothing's been solved. We've had little activity this year. What we have had is only a couple of instances in the past couple months of the dog growling at the stairs and things being moved to a different location. My son starting having some bad dreams while in the house, and they did concern the house, but short of that all is quite on the weirdo front

Hi Val, I'm pretty new here but I thought I'd stick my nose in after reading through what might be the most interesting thread on the board I've come across so far.

First, you've had experiences with your phones that sound exactly like what I had when I bought my new (old, built in the late 40's) house a couple years back. I had phones ringing with nobody calling (I have caller ID on all 3 phones), I've had my cordless phone page itself, I've also had my Vista phone call out all by itself to a speed dial number (thankfully not 911 lol). What all of this came down to was faulty wiring in my basement. I never renovated my basement (it's a finished basement from the 50's) when I bought the house but after getting the phone company in and telling them my tale (one looked at me like I was a wacko, the other said it sounded like an electrical problem), I decided to get some wiring checked. Sure enough, a few days and a thousand dollars worth of work later all my phone woes went away and haven't returned - and I sleep better knowing my house isn't going to burn down from 65 yearold wiring. Your issuse with your wiring on your heater might lend some credibility to you having a similar phone issue because of an electrical problem.

Now, on to your original audio recording. This is all entirely subjective of course, and what you hear on the sample could be taken any number of ways, but I've included a clip of the original "chair sliding across floor" soundfile. Using AdobeEncore, I've removed most of the noise using a couple filters, I then slowed the clip to about 350 from normal normal speed, and did not retain the normal pitch (makes the audio clip ~3.5 times as long) -- I did not add to or alter the clip in any other way. This seemed to be the point where it actually sounds like something other than a feedback loop. Once again, I must say that what (if anything) anyone hears in this is entirely subjective.

Sound clip You might have to "save target as" to listen to this mp3 file, for some reason it doesn't want to play or stream directly from my server. (dunno why)

I also sort of see something reflected on the door (face with a long nose), but once again it's entirely subjective is is probably just an artifact from the camera flash.

I haven't added or changed anything from the original sound file you posted. I did run some filter passes and changed the timepitch on the first one.

Well... this is the section immediately before the "chair squeek" that sounds like thunder on the original clip.

This portion I did the following 4 steps to: Reduce Hiss (noise floor from sample); Noise Reduction (profile from sample); then I ran a Butterworth Low Pass (544.22Khz order 18), and finally I ran a Stretch Timepitch (leaving pitch alone) factor 140 (so it's about 1.4 times as long).

Here is the result of the first bit before the "chair noise" - once again you'll probably have to do a "save file as" to listen to this.

My analysis: I don't believe in any of this bullsh!t, to be honest, when it comes to ghosts and the likes (I've even worked in a funeral home for a couple months as a summer job during university and handled plenty of dead people - none of them complained).

But, I do hear something in both clips after I run some filters on them and adjust the rate they're played at. I'll once again leave this up to a subjective experience and not say what I "think" I hear. Perhaps after a few opinions I'll toss in what it is I think I'm hearing other than some noise.

I should mention that, as with anything altered or edited electronicly - without the original data it's hard to get anything exact and the process of recording, sampling and resampling could possibly alter the original invalidating the final form.
