You know what also sounds good and fair? Allowing people into this country seeking asylum.
In theory, all the people crossing the boarder are just as legal as H1Bs.

H1B sounds like a good idea......

But in practice, 90% of the time, it's used to cut wages of American workers.
People were pulling up the stats all over twitter.

It used to be as businesses made more money, workers also made more money. It's an argument I heard over and over again here on ATS. That stopped happening the past few decades and now all the money is concentrated in the CEOs (not even the shareholders but the executives).

Now, instead of making engineering super, super lucrative, they are just importing people to cut wages or keep wages from rises.

Employers straight up break the law and say they can't fill positions with Americans or even worse. In the case of Facebook, they explicitly told staff they could only hire Americans if they couldn't find a H1B.

And this culture of law breaking continues with their employment. Some of the most blatant racism I have seen comes from people associated with the H1B program.

The controversy is:
Some people are claiming that we NEED H1B visas because they fill in critical jobs that we can't fill with Americans. Sounds good.

People started looking further into it and found out that many companies have abused the system. They have mass fired people and then rehired H1B visa people because they can be paid almost half the amount. Their visas are also tied to their work, so if they get fired, they get sent back home. There is enormous incentive for them to work as slaves because of the pressure.

IMO-His Admin officials won't let Trump go soft this time, like he did with Hillary in 2017.

I did my work on an H1-B visa in Philadelphia and then got the hell of the US.

South Africans, Indians and some Canadians did the technical work, Americans were the "managers". They treated us like crap but we got the job done. We were just the hired help.

Never want to go back. The Canadians were cool.

Yes, I know not all Americans are a-holes, but that was just my experience.
