You haven't answered it and gone on some rant about free speech and being on a conspiracy website, missing the fact entirely Jones claimed Info wars was a news outlet and this is a forum.

Then I asked if you were familiar with the Maddow defense since you believe this is more than just speech.

Be it spoken or written, it is speech.

Ignorance of the facts...

Again, what facts?

Your inability to articulate is not my problem....

eu.statesman.com...

On Dec. 14, 2012, just hours after a gunman murdered 20 children and six staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Infowars host Alex Jones told listeners and watchers that the massacre was "staged" by opponents of Second Amendment rights.

“I said, ‘They are going to come after our guns, look for mass shootings,’” Jones said on his program. “And then magically, it happens.”

Three parents of Sandy Hook victims — Meil Heslin, Leonard Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa — filed two separate defamation lawsuits against Jones and Free Speech Systems, the parent company of Jones' show "Infowars," over claims about the Sandy Hook shooting that Jones made in several broadcasts.

Meaning of defamation...

Defamation is a legal term that refers to any false statement that causes harm to another person’s reputation or character. Defamation can be written (libel) or spoken (slander)

Your inability to ignore the facts is not my problem and I see you still refuse to answer the simple question I asked.

You haven't said anything.

I'm aware of Jones. I'm aware of Sandy Hook. I'm not aware of what he said specifically nor that it was done with malice.

If only there was a trial in wich such important facts could be found.....

Gawd, I'm just thinking of all the names people have called me here on ATS...

I SHOULD BE RICH!!!!

In fact, if a billion dollars is the going rate per incident...I'd be the richest man on the planet right now!

ATS doesn't get the kind of attention that Infowars does. Also this is a forum and Infowars claims to be a news outlet. A big difference. ...

But see, this was my earlier point. People have to 'choose' to listen to that nonsense. And when they choose to do so, they should also expect that they will hear things they may not like. Alex Jones reputation for dealing with explosive topics and saying controversial things was well known LONG before Sandy Hook. Those people who got offended could have only gotten that way by "choosing" to listen to Alex Jones in the very first place. That, or they're lying, and they really didn't listen to him, and only heard interpretations of what he said from other people. Furthermore, those same people had to 'choose' to listen to those other people also.

I think you're missing the point. Nobody forced these people to listen to Alex Jones, they listened to him because they chose to do so...and now they're entitled to a billion dollars for damages??? How can you not see where this is wrong?

I also think you maybe missing the point here.

This is about how those millions of listeners reacted to the people of SandyHook, and how Alex Jones' broadcast caused an impact on the lives of people who had lost someone during the massacre. Jones caused his listeners through his false accusations to disrupt and cause harm to lives of those in Sandy Hook.

You actually made the point yourself here...

People have to 'choose' to listen to that nonsense.

It was these idiots that then acted upon his 'news' site by sending death threats and such that impacted the life of those in SandyHook.
It was the slander and libel posted by Jones that caused the harm. It influenced his listerners to act on his words with them believing he was telling the truth.

You are in dangerous waters indeed when you get into legally punishing people for what OTHERS did because of something you said.
That ends in the complete destruction of the first amendment.
There is no reasonable viewpoint that lands in a place where $1.5bn in damages for words spoken is viewed as just.

Did Alex Jones send those death threats? No.
Did Alex Jones force those people to believe what he was saying? No. He had no way to do this.

I can stand on a street corner and scream for people to jump off a bridge. Most sane people are just going to see some crazy guy on a street corner screaming about people jumping off a bridge. If someone chooses to listen to me, and then turns around and sends someone a death threat for NOT jumping off a bridge, all that does is prove the person who sent the note is crazier than I am. (And then the person who received the note can sue ME??? C'mon! That really IS crazy.)

Where are we going with this? You're losing me.

I don't see it as a first amendment problem. This is about consquences for libel or slander, a big difference.
I can have an opinion on something but if I claim it as fact then I face any consquences of that.

Bin Laden and his words inspired the 911 bombers. Hitler and his words inspired Germany to do the evils they did. The list goes on, and now with the internet that can spread instantly.
Freedom of speech is fine, but people seem to think it's also free from consequence and so are able to say anything and everything without repercussions.

Jones should have been libel for his words - but not to the tune of $1.5bn.
That is unconstitutional.
Plain and simple.

Please do not compare Alex Jones with Bin Laden and Hitler.
It's silly.
Those people orchestrated mass murder.

It's actually quite scary how stupid people have become - brainwashed into thinking speech is to blame for horrific events carried out by others.

I was comparing the words to inspire massive amounts of idiots to do do stupid things, that is all. And thats how I see this. Jones ' words inspired idiots to torment the people of SandyHook for years.

Alex Jones inspired his listeners throught the use of slander and libel to threaten the people of SandyHook. Jones claims his site is a 'Free' news site not controlled by the goverment. He used that as a weapon on gulible people to impact the lives of those impacted by the SandyHook massacre.

If that is how you see this then libel and defamation don't apply.

As I said, it's ok to be ignorant of the law but to try and argue from a position of ignorance isnt.

Although I find it entertaining personally.

So, why isn't Maxine Waters convicted under penalty of billions of dollars in damages for telling people to straight-up go out and riot, when the people DID EXACTLY THAT...and burned down entire sections of major cities?????

That hurt my feelings. She should pay!

Thats free speech (from a carzy person) but free speech. No slander in making those claims. If you claim you've just seen Biden or Trump throw someone of a bridge and it's false, then thats slanderous.

Then find a solictor who can represent you and sue her?? Thats your choice my friend.

Edited to add.
You'd need to prove it's caused you harm, maybe you had a business that was destroyed because of her telling people to riot? You were injured from someone throughing something?

Somehow it will be different.
These people are all the same.
They start with what will make them feel good and then shape all logic into a pretzel in order to justify their feel good state of mind.

Then there's the simple pragmatism of it all.

If they liquidate Jones, they get what they get. What, 5 mil? Tops?

Jones offered an 80 mil over 10 year settlement which was declined.

So who's business got destroyed from Alex Jones words? How were people 'harmed'?

Wow! I'm done here. This is pointless.
