My suspicion would be the jury knew he could never pay the award amount. Their goal was to exterminate him instead and make it so he could never recover. Those aren't 'real' damages, they're 'punitive' damages. Revenge.

I suspect that any output now will be a desperate attempt to get money and clicks.

I doubt that Federal officers are actually going to shut doors and liquidate equipment. That'll be the receivers.

I'm a huge supporter of Free Speech, but what exactly does that have to do with knowingly telling lies for money while at the same time doing great harm to those already in pain?

They actually couldn't prove that he made profit off of Sandy Hook because his side of Google analytics showed that it was neutral or negative retention and Google didn't provide their side claiming it was proprietary information. Which is why he was found in default and wasn't allowed to put up a defense.

Of course he made money off Sandy Hook. He makes money off everything he says on his show. The outrage, even at falsehoods, keeps people coming back, and he did spread falsehoods repeatedly on his show, and the show did make money.

It it usually works like this; someone has some sort of publicly accessible web site that they would like people to visit, that has some content. But doing this usually costs money.

So they make an agreement between people who want to sell stuff and put advertisements on the site and the advertisers know a portion of those who see the ads will buy, so they are willing to pay money in proportion to the number of people who see their ads.

One way to measure how many saw the ads, is to record how many visit the web page that contains the ads, i.e. the number of clicks.

This means that the site gets all of its income from the number of clicks.

People like getting paid and so this has led to clickbaiting like with those "... and you wont believe what they did next (click here)" type links that probably takes you to something both believable and mundane.

The other way to get clicks is to say something outrageous and strongly emotive, like what you always get, all the time, on InfoWars.

Now, it is hard to come up with true things that are outrageous and emotive every single time, and so it has become common to 'spin' things to imply something upsetting, or to simply make stuff up.

Take for instance the "gay frogs" thing. The original article was about chemical androgens causing reduced reproductive success in frogs. The frogs weren't gay. They weren't trying to mate with the same gender. They were less successful at reproduction. One academic suggestion was that chemicals that had similarities to female hormones were reducing the urge to mate, or were actually out-doing the male hormones. But the truth from the paper that noted the issue is that the chemicals were reducing the amounts of male hormones in the frogs.

There was nothing in the paper about frogs trying to mate with the same sex.

That's rich.
So it is only Alex Jones that has free speech, but if anyone speaks out against him it is libel, and defamatory.
He should take them to court.

I have heard of 35 Million dead all around the world from the vax since it started with the level of excess death going on.

Until the vax is proven safe, I will continue to assume that it is responsible, at least in part. With all the data obfuscation and pushing the onus to to prove it is not safe going on is the same slimy corporate tricks things like asbestos use.

You could try in a court and see how that one works out.

And just because i agree with the premise of your argument that large news networks also try and sell us stuff does not mean it equates to the same crap Jones chose to punt regarding the likes of Sandy Hook.

End of the day what he did was deplorable.

And this judgment actually works out better for the plaintiff's monetary wise.

I'd love to say I'm jumping for joy over Alex Jones prevailing in court, but I am not. I don't care for Alex Jones and I don't listen or watch his programming. However, unlike some people, I just choose not to listen or watch him; I don't pick up the phone and call my attorney, sniveling over my hurted feelz, and figure out how to sue and shut him up. I'm glad he has the right to say things I think are often nutty, just like I'm glad Art Bell had the right to say all sorts of 'out there' stuff. And candidly, I absolutely DETEST the daytime TV show, The View, and while they lie and offend me every single time I see even a minute of them cackling, I don't try to sue and shut them up. Why? I am an American. The people who do these things are NOT Americans; they are the enemy of Americans.

I'd love to say this is a "victory", but somehow that doesn't feel right either. We shouldn't have to feel like having our RIGHTS validated by a court of law is a "victory". Neither should we have to expect go to court every time we choose to exercise one of our rights. That is wrong...very, very, wrong. The precedent here isn't a "victory" so much as a sad reality of how far our society has descended into a Marxist Nineteen Eighty-Four-like world.

It's a sad day when we have to celebrate our inalienable rights being upheld by a court of law. It's an even sadder day to see people here on ATS, the vanguard of free speech, freely openly encouraging the muzzling of citizens rights, encouraging such un-American action. It's one thing to openly hate Alex Jones and everything he stands for, but it's a whole other thing to celebrate what led to his demise and encourage others to do the same. That is truly a sad thing. Those people should be ashamed of themselves, truly ashamed.

Alex Jones may have won (sort of) today, but I doubt he will prevail in the whole. I probably won't know, because I don't like Alex Jones and/or Infowars. BUT I choose just to not listen to or watch him, I do NOT choose to EXTERMINATE him.

Jones believes it's about money hence the fake tears and continuation to punt spurious products off the back of the blatant lies and claims he made about dead children and their families, so there is that.

The courts will have their pound of flesh JinMI one way or another and to the tune of $1.5 billion or thereabouts.

Fact is the decision means that the plaintiffs may actually see some of the money as opposed to the lawyers.

So there is some light at the end of the tunnel, and for Jones thats a big train.
