Body dysmorphia is a mental illness.

So, everyone who has plastic surgery, tattoos, skin implants, piercings, tounge splitting etc, they all suffer from a form of mental illness?

So, I have tattoos and piercings. So I suffer from a mental illness because that's a form of Body dysmorphia?

I think the real question is; why do we care? It's a beauty contest in which trans women don't have an advantage. If people want to elect a trans woman to win it, then so be it. I completely understand the controversy of allowing trans women in women sports, but who cares if its a beauty contest.

You are mixing things here that do not mix. Being gay is still abnormal for the majority, but is it a mental illness? The short answer is no. There are a lot of abnormal behaviors out there, but to be a mental illness too they need to have negative effects on a person. Being gay is not a negative thing, they are actually happy they are gay, love men, are happy other men love them so on and so forth. Trans can never actually be what they want to be and so no matter what they do they just can't quite reach what they desire. They also typically carry other mental illnesses too that all are intermixed with what they can never be.

I'm sure some become happy because they finally accept who and what they are, but a very large percentage do not and that is why they have a high suicide rate.

Most sports already have divisions on age, weight, etc.

I'm lumping all women-only events into one bucket. You assume this trans person won because they were just that much better than the girls, but I would bet they won because of pushing an agenda. Also, the OP is not just about beauty contests.

I think that's the biggest reason to avoid jumping to call trans people "mentally ill". That was done for a long time with homosexuals, like you stated.

Most who were converted to "straight" reversed back to being homosexual after societal pressure slowly stopped pushing homosexuality as a mental illness that could be fixed.

It did a lot of harm to those people that were pressured into going straight. From broken marriages to suicides. We should avoid making the same mistake with trans people.

Although, I think part of the left is making a similair mistake sometimes by pushing kids to take hormone therapy or surgery.

Body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria are not the same from what iv'e been reading. Gender dysphoria would be attributed to being trans. Someone with gender dysphoria doesn't automatically have body dysmorphia.

It's an interesting read if you have time. I think we'll find out even more information as time goes on, considering how transgenderism shot into the forefront of western discussion in recent years.

For example, if one has gender dysphoria they may experiance symptoms of body dysmorphia but also often feel relieved of those symptoms after transitioning. At least, in my understanding.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder has a very low rate of being affected by surgery or changes in appearance. One study put it at 2%, meaning of the 200 BDD patients they identified who had gone for surgery, only 4 of them reported their issues were gone. 196 people were not helped. If we compare to gender dysphoria, then 96% report improved quality of life. In addition, of the people who didn't, some of them reported poor surgical outcomes - that the lack of satisfaction was due to the outcome, not a poor choice of treatment.

What does it have to do with "rights". If women really don't want to compete in a beauty contest with a trans woman, then they don't have to. It's not violating any rights or preventing them from competing. At the most, maybe judges were compelled to have her win because it will create headlines and generate more income/funding for the next event. But, that's nothing new.

BTW all this isn't about whether they are happy or not, it is about whether they should be included in women-only events of all types.

Gender dysphoria is a mental illness. Not cruel at all.

What is cruel, unethical, completely antiscientific, is to treat a mental illness with hormones-drugs and surgery to remove external genitalia. It's not just cruel but a crime.

The comment you made about making fun of trans people is false.

There is a high suicide rate amongst gsy people too. Does that mean all gay people are not happy?

You need to show numbers and evidence and be able to make comparisons. So far, nothing has happened.
