Even without immigration there is no shortage of labor, only a shortage of those willing to work for a living.
Generation Z seems to want to be students, activists or professional victim class, none of which involves hard labor.

Making Gen X'ers the last working force available as well as the only workforce that's getting screwed in these wage wars, high taxes, cost of living increases.... The real working poor!

Then you have to work along side these imbiciles that dont want to work.. Hyperventilate when they have to do a job.. No kidding... Asked to drink at work because it helps their GERD!!! Seriously??? I'm not even joking. The boss is now stocking CBD lollypops in the break room because .... Millennials!

I'm here over working myself because the young ones can't and dont do it at all but no one wants to fire the lil bas-tards! When they do get fired after a year of zero productivity, and a pissed off me and my crew who are ready to jump ship... They have full blown panic attacks before they can make it out the door.

This ride is too crazy. I want off. The wheels are about to come off on this b!tc....

I've been watching the TikTok videos from workers at jobsites. Construction is going to come to a grinding halt. All those buildings will stay half built until they find new workers. And developers probably won't finish them if they go over the budget on labor. So that's going to cause a banking crisis in the state. And people that put down payments on homes will lose their money.

Another issue is that there's no one to pick produce. Citrus, vegetables and fruits are going to rot. There is no one to pick that stuff. And there won't be anyone lining up to fill those jobs. So expect higher food prices or food shortages.

Also all those migrants have left the state. Rental units will become more available. Maybe those prices will go down.

Thanks Desantis. Good job.

What size of house do you live in Jagstorm that it takes a squad of Mexicans a week to do half a home .
.

Carpet fitters are the rock stars of the construction trade these days , in gets the gig out of the way in a few hours and gone with a load of cash is the norm .

Most carpet fitters I know can bang in a 3 bedroom house including the underlay in half a day , when I got my small 1 bedroom pad done by the time I smoked a joint the 3 guys laid the underlay and carpeted the house ,living room ,hallway and bedroom in 10 minutes ,they don't mess about.

Shocked that you cannot get anyone to cut the lawn for 50 bucks a hour ,that's about 35 pounds £ , put a add on Craigslist but offer 20 cash

How many of you have actually read this bill? It is protecting jobs and going after employers. It is not creating Gestapo groups to go find illegals. It is trying to keep things legal. Most of it are things already in place not really being enforced or followed.

I mentioned earlier about the legal immigration and the numbers in Florida. Those people are expecting a wage to live and when you can pay an illegal 4 bucks a hour less who do you think the day labor people go after. Do you think there are not those who go out and corral the illegals and sell them to employers. Under the table, kickbacks....the whole nine yards. This leads to crime.

I remember a kid at a restaurant I worked at in Pass a Grille Fl who was from Bosnia. There were about 9-10 of them who would get dropped off in a van and picked back up. Young girls working in the hotels. They used to have to give their checks to someone who would 'cash' them and take their fee. This as well as the money they made from the businesses. This happens alot.

So, is that ok? If so, then no need for this bill. However, I do remember that kid getting the # kicked out of him when we told him that OT should be time and a half and they were just pocketing it and he asked them one morning.

This is not bad for anyone except those trying to circumvent the law.

Unfortunately, it can get a lot worse than that. Especially in rural Florida. We have had cases were young males are taken for sex and sport and they are too embarrassed and too scared to say anything to anyone, especially not to the police.

The median age is going up in the US every year now. People are not having kids as like they used to. What that amounts to down the road is an ever-worsening labor shortage. I have always felt if someone wants to come here and work and there is work for them, let them come. I live in South Florida, and what I have always taken to heart, is when you go to a mall here, you see a lot of immigrants shopping and spending money. Like it or not, they are a sizable consumer base now. There IS a reason they are letting them come in, and most people don't like to hear it, but the citizen population is slowly dying out. We actually NEED these people to work and pay taxes and be consumers. In that respect we are ahead of Asia, countries like Japan and China also have aging declining populations, but almost no immigration. Even with AI and automation, in a few years countries like China and Russia are going to be in real trouble because they simply won't have the workers to keep things on keel. Elon Musk has alluded to this problem, and he is not wrong. So like it or not, we had either get used to an influx of people or get used to a labor decline culminating in far fewer workers in the next 25 years or so.

I dont think you're making the distinction between illegal and legal immigration. there is a big difference. As a native Floridian... i don't see how making sure people come through the proper channels is such a big deal. although i'm all ears for an alternative that doesnt involve open borders...

i guess i can understand better if you answer a few questions...

Firstly, do let anyone into your home? at random?

Secondly, would you prefer i use the front door or should i just break through a bathroom window left unattended?

Thirdly, after i've broken into your home... are you going to clothe, feed, and take care of the medical expenses for taking care of the nasty gash on their leg they got from cutting themselves with the glass on the way into your house (and/or preexisting conditions)???

please denote the percentage of your wages you'd like to donate to this on a biweekly basis.

thanks!

Part of the problem is that "proper channels" are a complete sh!t show. It could take many years to even have a chance to enter the country legally in many cases.

If we could reform our immigration system it would greatly help. All these immigrants doing many of these jobs could be paying taxes. Even if those taxes are small.

Also documented that there are actual cases of immigrant slave labor by companies in Georgia, probably in FL, too.

This has been happening for a long time’: Modern-day slavery uncovered in South Georgia

A yearslong human trafficking operation trapped migrant workers in “modern-day slavery” on South Georgia farms, according to a federal indictment unsealed last week.

Victims include over one hundred laborers smuggled from Mexico and Central America into “brutal” and “inhumane” working conditions. Under the threat of gun violence, some were allegedly forced to dig for onions with their bare hands, earning only 20 cents for each bucket harvested. At least two people died on the job. Another was allegedly repeatedly raped.

They are taken advantage of.

I have lived here in central florida for over 20 years, i can tell you only that your assumptions, based on your locations experience, do not apply here.
There are no labor shortages, Immigrants who come here to work and go about it the right way(which is way more than your told) are not afraid of getting deported. Tourism is not affected as most of the amusement parks are over staffed with the LGBT community, struggling to get a 30 hour paycheck. (maybe thats why they all give blowies to random tourists in the bathrooms?) but thats not an immigration issue.

The only real industry that florida had died with the orange blights years ago, sure some groves still operate, and you can tell because of the big orange busses filled with migrants who are eager to get paid.

Worst case scenario : we might have to close some fast food chains but I think we should be doing that any ways

having lived in several border states, i will say that they do work very hard, and are good people when treated as such (as with any person) But this is florida or as we call it "floriDUH" we wont be losing any landscapers or cleaning crews to the supposed wrath of Desantis

Florida will not find out anything with illegal immigrants and labor most companies in Florida import English speaking 1099 contract workers from the Caribbean's or use Companies that use such workers and surprise they are happy to be here and work here and take the money home to live better lives in their home countries. They come in work 6-8 months go back home and vacation for months and come back and repeat. They are genuine pleasant people and probably like our country more than some born here. But they also love their home countries.
These people clean hotels rooms or condos in the Am then take a second job in the Pm's to bank money and go home and relax.

You are exactly right. One thing though, the Democrats have a vested interest in keeping things the way they are for two reasons. One is that the Immigration Lawyers are major contributors to the DNC. Two, the Liberal Socialists need illegal immigration to bring about their Socialist Utopia.

I actually lived in Florida for a number of years, and I do agree that every state is different and will feel things differently, I do believe Florida will feel some of the pains of this legislation.

I don't know where you guys live, but in NJ illegals get driver's licenses, same in New York.
That's a very dangerous thing to do, give someone who just ran over the border a driver's license, but my husband and I were at the Motor Vehicle, and they are getting their licenses.
And for the record, yes they are given full welfare benefits - food stamp card, medical, free rent, dental, the works. We all know it in this area because they are living right here and taking our housing.
They are also being given brand new furniture.
Other reports of $3,000 in cash per month.
And this is from neighbors who are speaking to these illegals, Americans need to understand why our inflation is so horrendous, continually increasing.
And it will get worse now.

I actually looked it up because I didn't believe it.
justharvest.org...#:~:text=%E2%80%93%20is %20not%20eligible.,not%20eligible%20for%20food%20stamps.

Who is not eligible?
Any person with a temporary visa – a work visa, a student visa, a travel visa, etc. – is not eligible. Immigrants who haven’t met the five-year waiting period, or the qualifications above, are not eligible. Just in case it’s not already clear, people who do not have a visa or a legal immigration status and are therefore undocumented are not eligible for food stamps.

I think there may have been some money given during Covid which was a one time emergency thing, (which I also don't agree with for illegals) but this doesn't sound like a common every year thing there.

I think some people on here also have Refugees, Illegal Immigrants, and Legal Immigrant very confused.

There are also people that are in the process of becomming citizen, which can take a decade.
