The payload was already detached. I saw an eyewitness video on Twitter where they talk about how a bright thing dropped like a shooting star from the balloon, and that was before it was shot down. And now the video is gone...can't find it.

You can clearly see the payload on the livestream. You can see it reflecting sunlight every once in a while as it tumbles after getting hit.

I watched the sidewinder fire and the explosion and the debris. And there were secondary explosions.

So now that this one is shot down, we still have one in South America and one in Canada? And a 4th one.

4th one is in another location, but not sure where. Only have seen pictures of the one in latin america.

A statement from the Defence Department also mentioned it was monitoring a "potential second incident" but did not elaborate further. Sources told CTV News that a smaller object may have been released from the balloon that might pose a risk to planes. A flight advisory was issued to pilots in Alberta and Saskatchewan in response.

Sources also told CTV News U.S. intelligence knows of a total of at least four of these balloons from China sent to other countries, beyond the one currently over the U.S. That includes the one the Pentagon confirmed late Friday night floating over Latin America.

All good, if that was in Missouri at around 6pm yesterday, then it was the same balloon. Interesting that something fell from this one as well. If you read my other reply above, the source I posted states that something fell from a balloon over Canada it seems. Not sure if it is the same balloon since it originated from Canada or it is a separate incident.

An F-22 fired an AIM-9 at the balloon and succeeded in bringing it down. The Raptor was using the callsign FRANK, in honor of Frank Luke Jr. He flew in WWI, and was known as The Arizona Balloon Buster.

I'd not suggest a direct upload to ATS of anything not EXIF scrubbed first.

EXIF data is the information logged about your picture -- shutter apeture and speed, white balance, contrast, whether or not it is RAW (untouched) or has been run through photo software, etc.

And your GPS location of the spot you took the photo at.

Doesn’t anyone else think that this thing was already done collecting and transmitting what it needed to?

I understand not wanting to shoot it down over populated areas, but it crossed vast amounts of land that are desolate/very low population.

Weird, I have the plane and missile in close proximity of the balloon and contrails off both but nothing shows up on the tv camera.

Seemed almost easy.

Finally enough people said enough is enough, for instance the governor of Montana, Senator Jon Tester of Montana, even if he’s a frikken liberal, and Josh Hawley of Missouri, who wanted to send in the National Guard while it was over Missouri.

So basically enough outrage was finally generated that he gave the shoot order.
